Chapter 5 Do not!

The castle was burning from an unknown cause. The soldiers and knights were hastening their movements since this was a strategic point for the kingdom. This castle has to be well in shape because of its unique location and style. Moreover, they can establish another army here which was ideal for their military.

Mery and Ragnar rushed to the area with their people. They immediately reached the living quarters with their speed.

" Cease your movement! Who ordered you to do that? This is the property of the kingdom. Show your manners!"

Ragnar shouted, looking at the knight with a heavy expression. He almost lost his temper with these knights. His fierce aura almost suffocated the entire area. Blood red aura rose from his body to choke these mad fellows.

" Ragnar stop! Look behind them. They are hiding something from us."

Mery said, calming the mood down. She saw the figure of a woman and children in the back. Therefore, she decided to observe the situation.

" Report your positions. Who is in charge here?"

Ragnar snorted while putting his axe down. His cold voice immediately woke up the soldiers from their nightmare. They broke out with cold sweat, knowing whose power was it.

Gulp*

One of the knights came forward and knelt on the floor. He tried to avert his gaze from the sharp looks of the strongest people in the kingdom.

" Colonel Andrew, reporting for duty. We are here under the order of the vice-captain Elanor. She ordered us to execute the traitors before the arrival of the generals. Moreover, she had brought the crest of the grand general Luke."

He finished his words, trembling under the immense bloodlust of the knights. He almost collapsed in his position.

" Is it true, Elanor? Where is the order of the grand general?"

Mery asked, demanding the letter from her. She knew the grand general was loyal to the throne, so she was trying to win over a little time for the duke's family.

" Are you doubting the authority of the supreme commander, captain? Please take a look."

She said, handing over a golden letter to her. Mery raised her eyebrows as she read the entire mission details. Her facial expression turned the cold as she excluded intense mana from her. Her mana burned the letter as she looked at her with indifference.

" Tell the grand general that we had kept our word. He will understand it."

She spoke while walking towards the helpless family. She took off her robe and she covered them with it. Her valiant red robe was luxurious magic clothes that could protect and keep them warm. She smiled with a gentle look.

" Hello, my name is Mery Jakeguard. I am the head of the royal knights. I apologize for the demise of the duke, but please keep your emotions until you reach a safe place. This isn't a safe place."

She whispered gently, reminding her that everyone wasn't soft like her. The duchess understood her words as she nodded with a solemn expression. As a highest-ranking noble she had learned how to keep herself in check.

Mery extended her hands and pulled up them with a single motion, but before she could say something. A sword went through her chest. The duchess almost screamed with fear because the owner of the attack none other than Elanor was standing next to her.

Mery spurted out blood as she touched the sword with a shocked look. Ragnar who also saw this immediately burst out with power. He pulled out the sword and closed her wounds with his mana, but it was too late.

" You are going to be fine. I promise you. Our son is still waiting for us. We will walk through the parade like in old times. Where are the priest and the doctor? What are they doing?"

Ragnar shouted, tears dripping from his eyes. The soldiers couldn't believe this was happening.

Mery raised her arms and caressed his face. Although she was wearing armor, she could feel the heat of his face.

" My love, don't do anything. It was bound to happen to me. I was a thorn in their eyes unlike you who was loyal. They knew my loyalty was shaken up and tidied that up for their future. Please protect our son and don't do anything. This is my last request. I love you more than my life. You were my glory."

Mery said gently while closing her eyes.
