Chapter 39 Travel

Step, step*

The sound of footsteps traversed through the empty fields as two figures slowly walked under the blazing sun without any expression on their faces. The young man was carrying a large backpack of necessities on his tiny back while the elder man was talking about something on this hot day.

" Are you sure that it was the right decision? You are leaving your family behind."

Lee Yon asked, showing the concern on his face while thinking about his uncertain future. The fate strings had connected these lonely souls to create a family bond, but the past barred the young man's heart with thorns that would never go away. The harsh reality of the world was engraved into his soul so deeply that even he was powerless against it.

The young man was determined to walk through the arduous road to protect his remaining family. He knew his new master was a lonely one and he didn't press the matters to him despite his kindness.

" Don't worry, master. I won't fall into the wrong road. Revenge is only for the fools."

He answered, clenching his fists with anger and disappointment in himself due to his powerlessness. He saw the power of authority and the power of absolute were enough to harm those beneath them. Therefore, he was forging his way to revitalize his father's will, possibly heading towards the so-called hero's path. The intense emotions of the past already passed through his mind, creating a new ideology in his young mental world.

He understood the power wasn't for greed or lust, it was for those whom he swore to protect and those who seemed to be worthy of his respect.

Perhaps, Lee Yon understood his desire as he said nothing while looking ahead of their road. The road seemed to be long and barren under the bright rays of light, but somehow there was a feeling that this journey was going to be different from his other journey. This time he might have what he was desperately looking around all this time without any problem and the key was in this boy's hand.

" Suit yourself then. I will teach you my martial arts and you must promise to complete your journey whatever happens to me because our journey is going to be long and tiresome."

Lee Yon put his hands behind himself while reprimanding his young student. Honestly, he was looking forward to this journey because this was his first journey with his first student and it didn't feel bad.

Meanwhile in the slums. Yvonne read the old parched letter on the table with sadness. Hot tears dripped through her rough face yet young face. She saw this was coming because her brother was exceptionally gifted in martial arts and she didn't want to chase after him. Hence, she left him alone even though she was struggling to keep her scream inside of her.

She was a kind child, but she wasn't kind like her brother due to her nature of being a scientist. Science was the ultimate way of truth in her belief, therefore she always questioned philosophy and morality if the cause was right. She knew she was a special child since she was young child, but she kept it inside of her.

The feeling of being loved and cared for dulled her instincts as she created tools that make life easier. However, that cause of happiness died along with her father and the absence of her brother. Perhaps her other siblings might cure her heart, but she questioned the truth of this district.

" Was it truly right to take someone's life for their goal?"

The question spun around her head, plaguing her young heart with an unknown disease. Thus, she reached only one conclusion in her mind.

" If my kindness is my weakness, I will eliminate it one by one and dismember it into pieces."

Her eyes glowed eerily under the gloomy light of the dying candles. The weakness is a sin and she was weak. So weak that even she couldn't reach her brother's hands currently.

Creak*

The sound of a chair sliding through the old wooden floor sounded in the room. The hasty wind blew out the remaining light of the candle, leaving a trail of smoke on its way.
