Cafe de la Chance

It was late 20XX, I was sitting in a pc cafe across the street from my house.(Luckily it happened to be open 24 hours. Which was perfect for a night owl like me.) I was playing an online game entitled: Avalon Rise of the Kings. On the other side of the row of computers in front of me, I heard the start of a conversation that instantly peaked my interest.

"Dude, one of my friends recently got hired for a gaming company, and he sent me a sneak peak of their next game." the guy on the left side said.

"What kind of game is it?" the one one on the right asked.

"So check this out, its a vrmmorpg. Supposedly its just like the ones you'd hear about in a litrpg novel." he said

"Our VR technology sucks though, plus its user base isn't wide enough for a wide selling game." the other guy replied.

"Here's the thing, supposedly its going to be full dive. You know, get inside a capsule and you feel like you're living in another reality. Here's the craziest part, supposedly they launch next year." the first guy told him

"No fucking way we have that technology and no one has heard about it, we can't be that close to creating that ambitious of a game." He said in disbelief.

"That's what I thought, but there is no way he's making it up with what I saw. This thing is legit. Plus they are hiring for a beta right now, and guess what... I have the code to join. You want in?"

"Is that even a question? How do I join?" the guy on the right replied.

My mind was racing after hearing this conversation. Is it real? Is it a scam? What are the chances I can get in on this? There's no way we have that technology currently? Do I ask them directly or see if I can eavesdrop?

Eventually my curiosity won out and I stood up and leaned over the row of computers.

"Sorry guys, but I couldn't help but overhear your conversation."

"Shit," the guy on the left swore "how long have you been there??"

"Since you sat down." I replied

"Fuck, don't tell anyone about this, I don't want my friend to lose his job" he pleaded.

"Relax, I'm not going to tell anyone, I just want to get in on this beta. You swear this is real?" I asked.

Visibly relieved, he started to open up. "Just follow this link enter this code and sign up. They'll send movers to set up the full dive system in your house, its pretty big so be prepared." he shared the link with me and his friend.

Without hesitation, I immediately entered the link into my url and entered the code he gave us. 'Congratulations on entering the beta, please enter all relevant information below.' I perused and entered all the required forms, leaving those that were optional blank. After about 15 minutes of form-filling, I reached the end screen. 'Welcome to Elder World Net. We will have a specialist out to you at 5 pm next Tuesday, or you can specify a date you would prefer.' I accepted the autogenerated date. I'm living on my savings right now. It's not like I have anything else to do next week. I closed the internet browser, paid for my time there, and started to head home.
