The Head Girl announcement.
It's Monday.
Cassandra as the girls' hostel prefect performed her duties diligently, the bell rang at 5 am. All the students woke up and together with the hostel mistresses, we did the morning devotion, she instructed everyone to clean their room which we did, and she ensured the hostel was tidy; even if she can be a bitch sometimes, she sure takes her duties diligently. We all filed out of the hostel, unto the assembly room, the girls were smartly dressed and then perfects all wore their tags around their neck, we were all set to go.
George and Miracle led the assembly, the student cheered after the completion of the school anthem and pledge, and soon the Chairman came onto the podium.
"Good morning students".
"Good morning sir". We said in unison.
"Welcome back to another session, congratulations on your results, DPC has never come second, and I'm happy you all are putting your best to retain that first position, you all can see the school is kind of different from the last session, we have completed the building of the courts and the swimming pool has been reconstructed, and yeah...the students have multiplied, as at last session we had 600 students, the head girl Sikemi has left the school for the States to further her education". Students exclaimed, some cheered, which included Ope and co. "New students have arrived, the total population of the students is now 629, the SS3 must have seen a new face of a new student which is rare, but some circumstances brought her here, Twinkle?". I walked up to him. "Introduce yourself".
"Good morning fellow students, my name is Twinkle Adeniji, I'm a new student has you can see, due to some circumstances, I'm here, I'm grateful to the Chairman for accepting me into the school, I promised to abide by the rules and regulations of the school, and to make the school proud". Ope and the junior students cheered, the clap was so thundering, the senior students especially the SS3 were quiet, some frowned, some nodded, Oba and the guys smiled, Happy boy gave a thumps up and Cassandra and her cohort scoffed and eyed me, well not everyone is the same. The Chairman smiled and gestured for me to return to the line, which I did.
"Welcome to the family new students, at DPC, we are a huge big family, so we are welcoming you all to the family, lectures commence immediately, and the forum for the new students will be next week Monday, where the rules and regulations will be read to your guys again, and knowing one or two things about the school, and yes, before I forgot, the management has chosen a new HG to fill in the gap of Sikemi, the tag will be presented to the new HG next week Monday, I welcome you all once again, have a wonderful trouble-free session". He completed and came down the podium, we all cheered, Cass was full of smiles, the entry song was sang and we all marched into our classes.
Everything went fine, lessons commenced and it was weird to see male teachers teaching, I was made to settle near a female in the front row when the students saw how uncomfortable I was to sit near a male, Cass was the only qualm I had, she was always on my neck, Oba and co sat at the back row, which was okay by me, the fact that HB wasn't in the same department as me irk me, it would have been more relaxing and comforting, after the lessons, we went on break, lessons and then it's closing, it continued like that for the rest of the school days, Oba ignored me most of the week, ever since our encounter at the library, and to be truthful, he was a real pain in the neck, always distracting the students in the class and disturbing the studies, he didn't disturb nor make a move on me. Cass has been going on boasting about how she was gonna be the new HG, I smiled inwardly, cause trust me, I can't wait to see her confused face on Monday, I will have the full whip over her, as the HG, I'll head her and she will have to adhere by my rules, I don't feel bad that the post won't be going to her, she takes her work diligently, and I'm not sure there won't be a better hostel prefect than her and the best go home with the medal. I spend most of my time with the juniors, giving them a new look, that not all seniors are bad or butter towards their juniors, I've been through that, and I've vouched not to make my juniors fear or hide when they see me, I can feel most of them finally relaxing and opening up to me. On Saturday, we all were in our rooms reading, Cass ensured all hostellers were in their room, but she was a little hard on me, parading my quarter and scoring, I ignored her cause it was a new session and I had to focus on my upcoming exams.
Sunday.
Ope and I were in the room reading, she was so engrossed in her reading, the past week, she has been with me, and at every opportunity she got, she reminded me of how nice and better I was compared to other seniors.
"Ope, can I ask a question real quick". She looked up from her reading.
"Yes, senior Twinkle".
"How long have you been in this school".
"Since I was 2".
"Wow, that long?"
"Yeah". She smiled.
"That means you've known Oba since little".
"Yes"
"What can you tell me about him?"
"Senior Oba is the controller, the controls every activity of the school, which teacher should be sacked, which students should come in, and other things".
"And the Chairman just watches him".
"The Chairman doesn't have a say over what Senior Oba does, he technically lets him do what he wants".
"Wow". I simply said.
"May I request something from you Senior Twinkle". She brought me out of my thought.
"Yeah"
"I want to be your school daughter". Wow, that came as a shock, I wasn't expecting that, I smiled.
"Why do you want to be my school daughter".
"Of all the seniors, you're the best, I thought I would never have a school mum, I've been craving for a school mum since I was in Jss1, but I haven't seen the one that meets my requirement". I laughed.
"And what are these requirements?". I asked.
"My school mum has to be affectionate, caring, loving, nice, and beautiful".
"How sure are you, I'm all that".
"I observe, I'm not just in the Sciences for nothing". I laughed.
"Wow, I'm not sure if I'm worth that post".
"I'm sure".
"Okay then, you're officially my school daughter".
"Really?".
"Yeah". She screamed. "Easy does it dawg, you don't want Cass barging in her saying we're disturbing what she calls 'peacetime". She lowered her tone.
"My friends will be jelly(jealous) I have the sweetest and most beautiful mum ever, I'm going to put a call through my mum, and let her know I have finally found a school mum". This girl is a lot.
"I hope I'm not gonna disappoint you". I said.
"You won't, I know for sure".
"Ok then".
"Thanks, mum".
"Well, I've to get a lot of things, I have to be used to". The bell rang for the second time signifying the arrival of the hairdressers.
"Let's go make our hair, Cass won't go easy on us, if she finds us still here". I shuffled her hair, we laughed, and went outside.
The following day, was Monday, as usual, the students were up early, cleaning, observing morning devotion, and observing prep, then walked to the assembly room to listen to the announcements. The D.O.S after giving the first announcement proceeded.
"As you all know, today is the day, we're presenting our tag for the new Head girl, and also the forum for the new students, after a thorough investigation, we have chosen a new HG, the new HG of DPC from now henceforth is..." Cassandra adjusted herself and was about to come out, I smiled. "Twinkle Adeniji". The school went quiet, Cass looked bewildered, and the others were shocked. Then suddenly, there was a clap, trust me, it came from Ope, Cass looked at me, cause we were opposite each other, I smiled, the junior student delivered a thunderous clap and the rest of the school followed exempting Cass and her cohorts, I walked up the podium. "This is the new HG of DPC, you might be wondering why that crucial post is given to a new student, but she is worth it, every bit, and she was the HG at her former school, I call on the Head Boy to present the tag to her". Oba came up to the podium, collected the tag from the DOS, and wore it around my neck, he smiled.
"Don't you see we fit, the HB and HG"? He whispered on my neck, I felt hot, and he smiled again.
"Nice, with that done, the new students and the Prefects should match into the school hall for the forum of the new students, others should quietly match into their classrooms for lectures".
And we that, we dispersed, the forum for the new students went smoothly, the D.O.S and the perfect and another Teacher was present, the rules and regulations were read and we pledged to adhere to it, we then were told we were now bonafide students, the rules and requirements of the HG was read to me, especially which I also pledged to adhere to. Cass went red in the face as I took the pledge, I'm sure she was almost in tears, like I said before the best goes home with the medal. After the forum, we went to our classes, Cass was unusually quiet during the lectures, I'm sure she was mourning her defeat with her cohorts, had she known she was not gonna be chosen, she would have kept quiet or the most, secretly wished, she would be chosen, rather than boasting to all that she will be the new HG, I'm sure the embarrassment will almost numb her, Felicia, Miracle and some number of students congratulated me, the teachers also teaching, congratulated me and wished me luck, Oba smiled at me briefly and went out of the class and for the rest of the lectures, I didn't see him when it was break time, HB congratulated me, I smiled. Well, the lectures went fine and soon it was closing, everyone went to their hostels, the days went fast and thus another week was canceled from the school's calendar. I made sure to talk to Feyi at least on Sundays, cause of the tight schedule, I have thus omitted the promise of phoning almost every time, she wasn't offended cause she was also chosen as the HG after I left, so the workload was much, she was my assistant back at SGMC. I showed her Ope telling her she is my school dawg, she was really glad.
Wednesday.
We had English, Mr. Sky, the English Teacher came into the class.
"Good morning students".
"Good morning sir". Some of us responded.
"How do you do?"
"How do you do sir".
"I'm great, I'm sure you're all are".
"Yes, we're".
"Today's lecture will be about the...".
"Enough, you may leave now". Oba said. I have had enough, I turned to the back row.
"Why are you always like this, if you know, you don't want to learn, why don't you quietly move out of the class and allow us that want to be learned and successful to listen?". He went red in the face. I continued nevertheless. "Are you the first to be a Chairman's child, go out there and look at how other Chairmen's sons behave in their fathers' school, why are you such an asshole, and you're calling yourself a head boy". He was shocked and so was everyone. I turned back to the teacher. "You may go on sir, we that want to listen to will, and those that don't want to listen won't". Mr. Sky nodded at me and continued his lectures, and Oba angrily went out of the class, the lecture finally came to an end after 30 minutes, Mr sky went out of the class, and Cass walked up to me.
"Do you know what you just did, you've no idea right? You're in big trouble, Miss HG". She laughed and walked off with her three cohorts.
