"Mathematics 1, huh?"

Kamijou didn't feel like opening the book with that title. Why? Because if there was a Mathematics 1, then there was a high probability that there would be a "II" later.

He clicked his tongue. He wondered who was the bastard that went ahead and turned mathematics into a series. If Mathematics was an anime series, he would definitely not watch it.

What was the use of Mathematics outside simple calculations in day-to-day life? No, he knew that without mathematics, everything will be chaotic. But he couldn't help but have that lazy thought.

In the first place, why was he holding the mathematics textbook? It was not a big story. There was an upcoming maths test so he had to prepare beforehand.

Of course, if it was just that he wouldn't be complaining now. Because of the fight with the fallen angels and stray priests, he was heavily injured in the process and had to call the school to tell them about his situation.

He obviously made up a story and told them he was assaulted by a group of thugs. Well, it was completely a lie since he was indeed assaulted and had to go to the hospital for treatment.

At first, Asia tried to use the power of her sacred gear to heal him but it was a wasteful effort. Everytime she used her power, it was negated.

Only Kamijou knew the cause. He clicked his tongue once again. His right hand (Imagine Breaker) can negate any supernatural power. It was natural that healing powers will be included.

Because of that, he skipped school for an entire month. lndeed, it was an unpleasant situation.

While he was thinking about this and that, the school bell rang signalling the end of the school period.

"Goodbye, Mathematics 1. There's somewhere you have to go. Now then… right back into the desk."

Kamijou felt refreshed as if he had just sent an injured, sheltered, wild animal back to the forest. He looked out the window. The sky was beautiful as it has always been. It was a really pleasant sight. If only the place wasn't so hot.

"So it has been one month already, huh?"

Stray priests, Fallen Angels, Devils, an abandoned Sister from the church. Alot of weird things has transpired a month ago yet it felt like yesterday for Kamijou.

But was his life ever normal to begin with? His life has always been strange.

When did he become like this? Since birth? He did not know.

Why did he transfer into this fictional world? He did not know.

Was it God? Was there any meaning in him being in this world? He did not know.

What was that strange entity he has been seeing in his dreams everytime he sleeps? He did not know.

Speaking of dreams, he started having that dream since that incident one month ago. At first, he thought it was a harmless dream. But ever since it started occuring again and again, his thought process started to change.

Was there something that triggered that change? What was that entity? And why was he having the same repeating dream? Was there a deep meaning that he was not seeing?

He sighed. He didn't want to think about it. At least, not right now.

His mood changing, Kamijou looked turned his gaze to the inside of the room. Everyone was swiftly packing their belongings and among them, he saw his best friend, Saji.

People know him as a member of the student council but his real identity was a devil belonging to Sona's peerage. For that reason, he acts rather arrogant sometimes despite being a low-class devil.

Kamijou thought their relationship will change because of Saji's recent transformation. But strangely enough, their relationship remained the same.

When he began to look at him as if he was staring at some rare kind of creature, Saji felt Kamijou's gaze and looked at him. For some reason, he looked offended.

"Why are you looking at me like that? Don't tell me you're gay or something?"

A vein popped on Kamijou's forehead and he clenched his fist very tight. Look at what that bastard was saying.

"You know I had my suspicions but to think you're actually gay."

"Do you want to get punched?"

"Why are you getting all defensive? Does this actually mean you're gay? Wait, wait, hold on now..."

Saji got scared when he saw Kamijou approaching him with a clenched fist. It seems he had gone too far with his teasing.

"I'm sorry, alright! Besides, do you really want to be doing this now?"

"Hmm?"

"You missed an entire month of school. Don't you have alot of catching up to do?"

"You think I don't know that. Besides, that was not my fault. Don't you already know?"

"But you have that sister with you, right? Or don't tell you didn't think of asking her to heal your injuries?"

"I did. Trust me, I did. But it's more complicated than you think. You know what, nevermind."

As Kamijou threw in the towel, Saji sighed and continued to speak.

"I would be more focused if I were you. If you don't do well on these tests, your summer vacation is going to vanish, you know."

"Summer vacation is not just going to vanish, right?"

"Well, you did miss an entire month of school so you wouldn't know."

Kamijou slowly realised what Saji meant. By 'Summer vacation vanishing', it meant he would have to take supplementary lessons. That wouldn't be good. No, that will be terrible.

There was no way he was going to miss the entire summer vacation just to take supplementary lessons with no air conditioning. His life was already miserable enough. He really needed that break.

Kamijou slowly leaned back on his chair and stared at the ceiling. It seems he greatly underestimated the situation.

Letting out a huge sigh, he took out the textbooks from inside his desk.

"Welcome back, Mathematics 1."
