First lesson!

The instructors' goal was simple, get those students' endurance as high as possible so they can endure the harsh training to come!

It definitely wasn't going to be easy, from shooting to the art of fighting monsters, how long can you last is what determine if you will survive!

The student quickly reached the canteen, It was time for their long-awaited breakfast. Simon looked around for Hary he wanted them to eat together, to his regret Hary was admitted to the clinic to rest as he has exhausted himself a bit too much.

Simon was carving for some coffee to wake him up, sadly they didn't serve that in the canteen and he had to make a run to a vending machine outside. The hierarchy was obvious, higher-level students stuck to each other, with the lower level did the same.

This was the first day so their first lesson was history and a brief reminder of what was the army's job. Their relation with the Esper university and so on.

Hary joined them in the classroom later when he rested enough.

At the start of the class, Simon aimed to get the first seat as the last seats seemed to be the noisiest.

He did reach early as he had skipped breakfast for a coffee and sat on of the seats.

He just waited there for the class to start.

"Move! This is my seat!" He heard a woman's voice beside him.

[Magic disruption] Activated, Interruption succeded!

Simon looked to the side exhausted, he could guess who was talking just from their high-pitched voice.

It was that weird princess girl he saw at the test, her eyes were already glowing faintly green and since his skill activated, she had used her ability on him.

Simon slowly stood up and turned toward her. She made a satisfied face as he seemed to follow her orders.

"There is a seat open there at the back, go sit there!" Simon said as he pointed to the back, he then sat down where he was.

"I told you to get UP!" She shouted, this time her eyes glowed even brighter.

[Magic disruption] Activated, Interruption succeded!

"Listen here, if you had asked nicely from the start, I would have given you my place!" Looking directly at her face, he adds "If you keep using your ability against me I would have to fight back!" Saying that he grabbed the table's wooden side with an immense amount of force. The wood cracked with a loud snapping noise, The girl jumped as the sound scared her.

This was his warning, from her glowing eyes and what he saw at the test. It was obvious to him that she was a green mana user that can control people! Brainwashing magic is extremely dangerous, even if he can resist it now thanks to his skill, she is an extremely dangerous individual that he needs to be cautious about!

On her badge was written. Layla Caerlion, First year, Level 2. That confirmed it. Simon had hoped that he will never have to deal with her.

Her face with bright red, as if she was about to explode. The entire class was staring at them awaiting a fight to start, some have even exited the class to not get caught in the middle.

The other student who had abilities all prepared themselves for a fight. From the side of his eyes, Simon could see them activating their abilities as the eyes started to glow!

Layla usually only targeted level one student by her ability, that was because she didn't know what would a person with an ability do to her after the control is over!

Her ability had many restrictions, all of which she kept a secret to protect herself.

Seeing her and feeling the atmosphere in the room, Simon moved a bit to the side allowing her some space to sit.

"Just sit down, I'm not moving!" Simon said, she sat beside him silently. The tension started to drop but Simon was still given a weird look.

"Why are you wearing a level 1 badge?" She asked in an extremely quiet voice, Compared to the previous yelling she seemed to be timider now.

The moment Simon turned to answer the question she flinched, This made Simon question himself for a moment, 'did I do something wrong?'

"Why do you ask?" He questioned her instead of answering.

"I never failed to control a regular person, to resist my ability you have to be a green mage stronger than me!" She replied. By the tone of her fear was apparent.

She had a scared look on her face, she was speaking out of fear. Simon noticed, probably I shouldn't have intimidated her!

"Listen, you can forget about what happened today!" He had an awkward smile on his face."It would have been another matter if you actually succeeded to do it!"

"Sorry, I actively avoid controlling people with abilities as they may come for revenge later!" as she said that the teacher entered the class, it was time to start their first lesson.

Since the discovery of magic and how powerful it can be, countries started to amass Esper into their armies! That has led to eventually dividing the countries' military power into two groups.

Espers were physically weak as they spent most of their time studying magic, of course, you can find an esper that is good with his hands but nothing to the extent of a trained soldier!

On the other hand, the military-trained soldiers were physically capable but lacked the advanced edge of magic. Of course, just as espers, some soldiers were able to use a bit of magic! The magic they used was usually weak and simple, reflected in a single spell most of the time.

The soldiers who could use even a bit of magic were called ability holders, To the military, they were a precious resource that helped them stay on par with the Esper university.

There was obvious rivalry between the two, each of them tried to prove they were the best! Each one of the students was encouraged to at least try and learn a single spell!

The second class was about the world situation, the major forces of the world have started to lose their power, the tension between countries was rising.

Their country Aberia had a conflict with Doroco with whom they shared a border. Simon was interested as his village was close to Doroco, he only hoped that they didn't have anything to do with the Hegi massacre!

The classes passed quickly and when it was lunchtime, Simon was summoned to the director's room!
