Chapter 56 Spirit Ring

After resting and recovering their energy, Renxue called Hun Yu, who was sitting in a meditative position.

"Yes?" he stood up and replied.

"Do you know anything about that sudden shockwave?" She looked at Hun Yu with sharp eyes.

A sweat appeared on Hun Yu's forehead. "Of course not. How would I know?" There was no way in hell he was telling her he caused that shockwave.

"Oh."

"Then why are you sweating?" Qian Renxue was observing Hun Yu closely.

With her years of experience, she could tell at a glance who was lying and who was not.

She grabbed Hun Yu's ear and pulled it.

"Ouch!" Hun Yu was surprised by the pain. As a Spirit Master ranked 60, he shouldn't have been affected by such a minor attack.

He then sensed that Renxue was using her spirit power to inflict pain.

"Stop lying and tell me everything. Otherwise..." As she said this, she increased her energy concentration to inflict more pain.

Although it wasn't much, it was enough to teach him a lesson for lying to her.

"Okay, okay." Hun Yu had no choice but to tell her the truth. He rubbed his ear and started explaining everything.

When he finished telling her everything, Renxue was shocked. Her mouth was open in disbelief, but since she had experienced it herself, she couldn't deny what Hun Yu had told her.

"Do you still have that white energy?" she asked Hun Yu. She wanted to get it from him and do some research on it.

Maybe Spirit Hall could create some powerful weapons for the upcoming war.

"Ah, no. I used it all in that attack," he replied truthfully.

Renxue sighed in disappointment.

Since there was nothing she could do, she calmly said, "Okay, then we should leave quickly. This big movement might have attracted the attention of powerful forces."

"Wait."

Renxue looked at Hun Yu. "What?"

"I can try absorbing this spirit ring." Her eyes widened in surprise.

"No!" she denied immediately. "This spirit ring is too old for you to absorb."

"But I think I can do it."

"Don't you see? There's a huge gap between your fifth spirit ring, which is 25,000 years old, and this 90,000-year-old spirit ring."

Hun Yu and Renxue argued for some time, but she refused to change her mind. Finally, she turned to leave, saying, "Hmph. Do whatever you want. Don't blame me if you die."

Soon, Hun Yu was the only one left in the area, with only the spirit ring for company.

"Did she really leave?" He spread his senses, but there was no trace of her.

"It seems I really angered her this time," he thought. He sat down near the spirit ring and took out the locket.

"Okay, locket, save me just like last time if something unexpected happens."

He didn't know what the locket held, but it had saved him in the contest by releasing that white energy.

He took a deep breath and used his spirit power to attract the spirit ring. Then, he began absorbing it.

 ...

Qian Renxue was walking through the forest when she stopped and looked back in the direction of Hun Yu. She bit her nail and headed back to him, arriving a few minutes later.

When she arrived, she saw Hun Yu absorbing a 90,000-year-old spirit ring.

His condition didn't look good, as expected. It was no easy task to absorb such a powerful spirit ring, especially since it was not a spirit beast sacrificing itself.

Qian Renxue walked near Hun Yu and stood at a safe distance, not wanting to disturb him. She tapped her foot continuously on the ground and bit her nails.

"His attribute is similar to mine, so maybe I can help him," she thought. "But what if instead of helping him, I make his condition worse?"

She was in a dilemma.

Finally, she decided to help him. His situation was getting worse, and she couldn't just stand by and watch.

Hun Yu was unaware of his surroundings, his entire attention focused on absorbing the spirit ring.

Qian Renxue came behind Hun Yu, covering herself in spirit power to protect herself from the spirit ring's energy.

She sat down behind him and placed her hands on his shoulders, channeling her spirit power into his body to help him suppress the power of the spirit ring.

Minutes passed, and an hour later, Hun Yu looked like he was about to fall to the ground.

Qian Renxue's condition wasn't much better, even though she was a peak Spirit Saint.

What she was doing required very good control over one's spirit power, and there was no guarantee that all of her spirit power would reach Hun Yu. If she lost control, a lot of her spirit power would go to waste.

Suddenly, the locket on Hun Yu's chest shone with a white light. A wisp of energy escaped from the locket and entered the spirit ring of the Fifteen Ton Ant Emperor. Nothing seemed to change on the outside, but this was the chance Hun Yu needed.

He used all his power to suppress the spirit power that was running wild in his body. After some time, his condition finally stabilized.

A few minutes later, a new spirit ring appeared on him, but it had a reddish tint to it instead of the usual black.

Hun Yu was now full of energy after absorbing the spirit ring. He was about to move when he felt someone behind him.

He turned around and sensed it was Qian Renxue falling to the ground. He caught her before she could hit the ground.

Hun Yu used his spirit power to check her condition.

He was shocked to find that her spirit power was completely exhausted. However, there were no injuries, and she should be alright after some rest.

Without wasting any time, Hun Yu swiftly carried Renxue on his back, making their way towards the outer edges of the great Star Dou Forest.

Once they reached a safe distance from their previous location, he gently placed Renxue against a sturdy tree.

Sitting down beside her, he took a moment to stabilize his spirit power, assuming a meditative posture.

After some time, Qian Renxue slowly opened her eyes. The first thing she saw upon waking was Hun Yu's face,in front of her.

"Are you alright?" he inquired, though he knew she was fine. What harm was there in asking?

She didn't respond, instead closing her eyes with a huff.

Hun Yu thought, 'It seems she's still angry.'

"We should continue; it's been two days since we entered the forest," he suggested. When Renxue tried to stand, her exhaustion made movement difficult for her.

"If you don't mind," Hun Yu hesitated, uncertain of her response, "you can ride on my back." As she heard this, she gave him a glare.

Despite knowing that lingering here would attract more spirit beasts, and she was in no condition to fight, she agreed reluctantly.

"Alright," she finally said, surprising him. He had expected her to disagree, but there was no time to waste.

Kneeling down, he allowed her to climb onto his back, her arms around his neck and head resting on his shoulder.

She now wore her original clothes, as her black attire had been destroyed in the shockwave.

Though nervous, feeling her breath against his skin, Hun Yu moved at a steady pace, careful not to disturb her.

She was fast asleep, utterly exhausted from battling the spirit beast and helping him absorb the spirit ring. Such kindness couldn't be repaid with mere words.

Now, they were on the outer fringes of the Star Dou Forest. It had taken hours of continuous walking, but from what he could sense, it was undoubtedly worth it.
