Douluo Dalu: Martial Path

In the world of Douluo Dalu, being a Soul Master is an occupation. A title above normal mortals. Yet, despite the power and numerous other abilities one would gain as they thread the path of a Spirit Master, they were no different from a normal mortal. They would still die to natural causes and a spirit master didn't have a longer lifespan than a mortal, except when they reach the limits of a spirit master but they could only live by twice or thrice the lifespan of a mortal still. Just what was good being a spirit master? Especially if one can easily kill them by the hands of either technology or natural causes? They weren't much different from a mortal. That was what Feng Qin had come to a conclusion as he turned twelve, six years after awakening an unknown trash Martial Spirit. But, on a fateful day, one single lucky moment as he had just survive from a life and death situation, changed his life forever. ... AN: Hey it's yo boi, FroztDouluo back with another Douluo Dalu fanfic! And this time, it's a concept that I've taken inspirations from Martial World(just read the story since it's a prequel to True Martial World, my favorite story and one I'm hoping to make a fanfic of someday), True Martial World, Tales of Demons and Gods, God of Slaughter, etc. I really hope I can make this story great and won't eventually turn me off. Cause my last few stories were great in plotlines at the start but it had eventually gone downhill due to several reasons.(Mainly laziness, writer's block, and school.) So, I'm going to clarify a few things and reveal a couple spoilers. One, there will be some oc other than the mc in this story. Most of them would come from other stories that I had previously mentioned or you guys can help me create some of them through comments. Two, I prioritize pa-treon more than here so if you notice me being late to update than it must mean I was either busy writing more chapters in pa-treon or I'm resting from the exhaustion of it. Three, the update schedule is 2-3 chapters a week with at least 1k words. Chapters are uploaded in Wednesday and Friday/Saturday(UTC +8, Philippine time). Four, I will try to reply to most of the comments I see but don't count much, cause I don't really reply very well because I just don't know what to write back. I just hope it'll get to a hundred, or two, chapters before I drop it, or not? It depends on life really. And positive comments and reviews, I don't really care much of power stones(tho, that doesn't mean you can't...) but positive feedback on my work really inspires me more to write. Want to check out my pa-treon and be ahead of your fellow WN kin? Well here's the link: pa–treon.com/FroztDouluo *Just get rid of the dash.

Chapter 30: New Land 2

Feng Qin and Long Yuyin didn't take long to arrive at the Grand Fortune Library.

The Grand Library had lived up to its name, as it was a building equal to a castle! With just a glance, the library was easily the largest building in the entire kingdom. The entire structure was gleaming with cold silver, giving a dreary and cold feeling.

"Damn. For a library, it looks more like a fortress." Feng Qin said, impressed, standing before the entrance.

Long Yuyin nodded. "I agree. Even my family's library couldn't compare to the sheer size and intimidation of this. Why was the library made this way?"

"That's because the Grand Library wasn't always a library. It was once the royal family, the Dai's, royal castle." A gentle voice rang out from behind them.

They both turned around and found a young woman that was a few years older than Long Yuyin, with long blue braided hair and kind violet eyes.

She wore white clothes and had a large book in her arms that had the title: "World Myths".

She smiled. "Hello. My name is Mei Lin. I'm one of the librarians of the Grand Fortune Library."

Feng Qin and Long Yuyin introduced themselves and Mei Lin gestured for them to follow her inside.

As they walked through the grand halls of the library, Feng Qin couldn't help but feel a sense of awe. The shelves upon shelves of books, each one a treasure trove of knowledge and history, was mind-boggling.

Mei Lin led them to a secluded chamber and gestured for them to sit down. "So, what brings you both to the Grand Library?"

Feng Qin and Long Yuyin exchanged looks before Long Yuyin spoke up. "We're looking for information about spirit master's spirits mutations and... spirit beasts in general."

Mei Lin hummed, looking thoughtful, "Hmm. We have a lot of books about spirit master's spirits and spirit beasts... but if you're looking for spirit's mutating then we have a few books of them. There's even a recent one that was published several years ago by a scholar in Spirit Hall."

Long Yuyin's face brightened and impatiently asked, "And where should we find this book?"

"It's just down this aisle to the left, in the section labeled 'Spirit Mutations and Variant Spirit Abilities'. Look for the book titled ' Spirit Theories and Mutations' by Scholar Grandmaster." Mei Lin said, pointing them in the right direction.

Feng Qin and Long Yuyin quickly thanked Mei Lin before hurrying down the aisle to find the book.

After a few minutes of searching, they found the book and eagerly took it to a nearby table to start reading. Long Yuyin being the most excited as she could possibly find the source of her tail.

"Mas... Feng Qin. You can leave this to me. I'm sure you have a lot of things to do in the city. I don't want to take up all of your time." Long Yuyin said, not taking her eyes off the book.

Feng Qin chuckled and nodded. "Alright. I'll leave you to it. I have things to take care of anyway."

And with that, Feng Qin turned to leave the Grand Fortune Library. But he only took a dozen steps before a sudden chill went up his spine.

He clenched his fists, restraining himself from recklessly lashing out as he felt that cold feeling had no hostility and was just...there, like a presence.

Slowly turning around, he scanned his surroundings for anything out of place. But nothing caught his attention.

'Just what was that?' It wasn't anything he'd ever felt nor know about in the Sword Immortal's memories. Well, he really couldn't lean on the latter for help in this world's lore.

"Is something wrong, Feng Qin?" A voice brought him out of his thoughts and he turned to see Mei Lin standing behind him with a curious look.

Feng Qin shook his head. "It's nothing. I just had a strange feeling, that's all."

Mei Lin nodded understandingly. "I see. Well, if you need any help or have any questions, don't hesitate to come find me."

Feng Qin smiled gratefully. "Thanks, Mei Lin. I'll keep that in mind."

He paused and asked,

"Actually, Mei Lin. I've got something to ask. About what you said. What do you mean this library was once the royal castle of the empire's royal family?"

Mei Lin tilted her head. "Ah. I knew it. It was just speculation at first but this must be your first time in this city?"

Feng Qin nodded, not finding any reason as to lie about it.

"Well. About 300 years ago, the Sky Fortune Kingdom was once the main capital of the Star Luo Empire and was the Star Luo Kingdom itself. But that all changed one day when the Xian Family, one of the five main clans of the empire, decided to start a coup."

"Whether it was out of greed or hatred, at that time, the Xian was considered to be the strongest amongst the five families. The royal family had fallen a bit because of internal struggle and was on the verge of annihilation. Even though they had a small number compared to the other clans, the Xian Family had high quality spirit masters that the normal human armies of the royal family couldn't handle." Mei Lin let out a sigh, closing her book.

"When the army of spirit masters were at the entrance of the Sky Fortune Kingdom's gates, the Dai Family had no choice but to flee out far in the north-east – which is now known as the Star Luo Kingdom's new capital city. That war lasted for 10 long years..."

She shook her head. "But long story short, when the Xian Family had occupied this city they had heavily reinforced it with iron and cold heavy silver to prevent the Star Luo army from coming back to take them down but sadly, their defeat was inevitable when not only the Zhu Family was involved, but the Dragonseal Family and the Xiao Family helped out as well."

Feng Qin listened intently, absorbing the history of the city. "So, the Grand Library was once the Xian Clan's castle?"

Mei Lin nodded. "Yes. It was used as their headquarters during the war, and when they were defeated, the royal family gifted the castle to the Grand Fortune Library, which had just been founded back then. The library expanded and expanded over the years, but the castle's structure remained the same. That's why it looks so intimidating now."

Feng Qin couldn't help but admire the rich history of the city, and he was grateful for Mei Lin's explanation.

"Thank you for telling me all of this, Mei Lin. It's really fascinating to know about the history of this place."

Mei Lin smiled warmly. "No problem. It's always good to know the history of a place you're living in or visiting."

With that, Feng Qin finally took his leave, feeling much more enlightened about the city's past. He went about his errands, but the strange feeling he had experienced at the library lingered at the back of his mind. He couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off about the Grand Fortune Library, but he couldn't put his finger on it.

Little did he know, it was only the beginning of something much bigger and more dangerous than he could imagine.
