Bayland

The students all gathered in front of the main school building. They were arranged according to their years, with the First years coming up front.

There were four buses also lined up ahead of the students. The buses were going to take them to Bayland this morning.

The air was filled with chattering from different students. While some were excited, others were jittery and anxious. It was mostly the first years in weird moods.

Derek rubbed his both hands together trying to keep the warmth, it was almost winter and the cold wind was already in full swing, stinging any patch of bare skin it could find as it skimmed by.

The class teachers had already told the students all they needed to know, so there was no further announcements this morning. Each class teacher stood in front of a bus and beckoned to the students and one by one they started filing in.

It took almost ten minutes to get all the students to get in and settle down in the thirty-two-seater bus. When they had all been arranged like sardines in a tin.

The class teachers along with a few other teachers and the nurse got into the bus.

Any one that looked closely into one of the windows at the far end of the building would have seen the large body frame of the headmaster, leaned against the glass pane, peering out at the departing students.

The teacher signaled the driver if the bus and he revved up the engine. Then slowly, the bus ambled out of the large school gate and soon began to pick up speed.

A few moments after the bus left the gate, the windows started to turn dark. The view of the surrounding was being cut off.

The lights in the bus slowly came on as the windows turned dark. The separator between the driver's seat and the passengers also began to go up.

'They don't want us to know where we are going' Derek thought.

With the new development, it was only the driver who would be able to see out of the bus. The interior of the bus lit up with bright lights. It was almost like it was still the sun shining through the windows.

It was the same for the other three buses following at the back, their view of the surrounding had also been shut off.

Many understood the reason for this development, while the rest that didn't did not feel like complaining, so soon enough more than half of the students were asleep.

The few that weren't asleep were either listening to music on a headset or endlessly tapping the screen of their tabs.

Derek could feel the speed of the bus, it was moving quite fast. It had been that way since a few minutes after they left the school gate. It made him wonder if there were no vehicles on the road.

After a while, the bus began to slow down. And slowly the lights began to dim as the window brightened up.

They could now see the outside world once again, at that moment the bus drove into a large gate, almost twice as large as the one they left at school some hours ago.

The faint sounds of exclamation as they drove through the gates woke some of the sleeping students, it was a sight to behold. There was only one word the school could be described as…

Magnificent

It was almost three times the size of their school. There was a pathway which had colorful lights from the school gate which the bus followed. It was like it was the pathway telling them where to go to.

The buildings around were eye magnets. Very tall and lavish. The whole school was bathed in modern technology.

The buildings were mostly made of glass, on one of the buildings close by there were about five elevators on the exterior made entirely of glass, racing up and down the building.

The bus came to a halt at the front of one of the large glass buildings. The separator went down after the bus stopped.

The students could see some other buses lined up at an open space at the other side. The buses carried the insignia of the other schools, it seemed there were the last to arrive.

The teachers were the first to get out of the buses and they began to direct the students out of the bus and into the building.

There was a tall blond girl inside the building and a uniformed guard who looked terrifying.

The lady appraised their luggage and the man ran a portable hand-held scanner to make sure no one carried a malicious weapon.

After they were done scanning the occupants of the first bus, another man came out from the side and walked side by side with the teacher to show them to their rooms.

The man spoke briefly with Elton and they walked to the elevator, it took three of the large elevators to convey all the first years to their floor.

The view from the elevator was satisfying. It was almost as if the ride shouldn't come to an end.

But just with the thought, the elevator stopped, on the fifteenth floor.

No one had seen the man press any buttons, since began to think that the elevator was controlled with thought projection.

The man didn't follow the students in but went back into the elevator when everyone had got off and went back down.

Elton began pairing the students into twos, it was either two girls or two boys, after the pairing he gave each pair a card.

The card was for entry into the rooms. Without the card, one had to stay outside or hope their roommate was inside to open the door from the inside.

Elton explained that the whole fifteenth floor belonged to them, but they were to stay in their rooms and not the corridors.

When Derek saw that he was once again paired with Chuck, he shook his head and sighed in partial frustration.

He had been given the keycard. So, he just ignored Chuck and began to walk down the corridor, while examining the keycard.
