Playing Music in the Night

Dear diary,

My mom told me something interesting today. It was regarding why I should stop playing music while I go to sleep at nights.

Yesterday, on a cold Sunday evening, my mum walked into my room to check on me as usual. She wanted to make sure i din sneak out at night to go see woman.

When she entered, she met me fast asleep with Celine Dion playing at the background. It was my third day after breakup and I needed the songs to heal my heart as usual.

Quietly, she turned off the music and went back to bed.

After morning devotion today being Monday, she called me and advised me not to play music at nights, that nights are for spirits and anything could happen. I didn't quite believe her because I didn't buy the idea of Spirits, demons and things of those sorts.

She proceeded to tell me of a man from his village named Okoro. That was back then in the early 70s.

Okoro was fond of playing music at nights. One day, while everyone was asleep, he turned on his music as usual and went to bed. In the middle of the night, he heard some foot 🦶 steps in his room.

These steps were sounding as though it was in a party hall but Okoro was not seeing any dancers. He turned off the music and serenity restored in his room.

He stopped hearing the foot steps.

He turned on the music again and the dance continued. The steps became louder and then, some started clapping. Just then, Okoro joined the dancing and clapping.

That was the beginning of his madness.

Those steps and claps were from the restless spirits wandering at nights.

Okoro's family members took him to all the spiritual homes they knew but till Okoro died, he never stopped dancing or clapping.

Though I find it hard believing whatt my mom just told me, but I don't think my mom has ever lied to me. o ddont think she made up the story.

"The world is deeper than you think. Days are for humans. Nights are for spirits and evils." That's what she said.
