Devil's Luck[Arc 5: Worlds Apart]

Zenkichi Hitoyoshi is a young man, destined to be chained by fate in the early story of canon. He was a man without ambition, drive, will and talent to become something great. Well, that'll soon change. For better, or for worse. .... AN: Alright, let's do this one last time. Here's another Medaka Box fanfic that I hope it'll get to a hundred chapters before I drop it, or not? It depends on life really. And positive comments and reviews, I don't really care much of power stones(tho, that doesn't mean you can't...) but positive feedback on my work really inspires me more to write. Want to check out my pa-treon and be ahead of your fellow WN kin? Well here's the link: pa–treon.com/FroztDouluo *Just get rid of the dash. Edit: I just couldn't find any good art for the cover.... Is this fine? Schedule and the amount of chapters I'd be popping out? Tuesday and Thursday(UTC +8), 2–3 chapters a week(it's usually just 2 chapters because I'm slow at making anime related stories).

Chapter 69: The Fall of a God

How long has it been since he last felt this feeling?

Since the incident with the beast of Apocalypse? Or was it when he last went to war with the Giants and killed their king at the time?

He can't remember...

The years of ruling his people, the peace he created in Asgard and throughout the other realms, had been so utterly dull that his memories started to warped. Moreover, with wisdom and magic as his divine authorities, his memories would always be fresh and easily recollected like it had happened just a minute ago.

He was on the brink of madness.

That is, until his foster daughter granted him his salvation.

*Bang!*

Odin stumbled back, blood dripping out of his mouth after getting punched by Zenkichi but he wiped it off and twirled Gungnir to block the two attacks of the former that defied the laws of physics, making the last one hit him and created a large gash across his chest.

He wasn't bothered by his latest wound and jumped back, the large and fatal wound on his chest immediately started stitching itself back in a blink of an eye.

He narrowed his one eye at Zenkichi, who settled into a karate stance, the gauntlets around his arms began to let out burts of hot steam.

Odin was a God of many domains, a Fool was not one of them. Ever since the boy had somehow resurrected himself, Gungnir seemed unable to hurt him.

Something that was impossible to happen unless his skin or body had evolved to the same state of existence as his divine weapon.

Judging by his body's aura, he did not. Despite showing God-like abilities, Zenkichi Hitoyoshi still radiated the same aura as a mortal.

His wisdom had been going overdrive to try and derive the origins and workings of his abilities, only to chalked it up to genetics and innate abilities.

'Impossible. The boy couldn't have been born with such abilities without the Heavenly System catching wind of his abnormalities.' There could be another possibility...

This boy is from another reality.

Not the strangest phenomenon to occur in his infinite lifetime really. There had been some cases over the millennia of reality hoppers entering in and out of their reality.

Especially a certain Magician. That man had been both entertaining and annoying, the last part especially.

Though lost in thought, Odin's eons of battle experience caused him to dodge several iron spears thrown towards him, pivoting, he swiped Gungnir at the spears magically going back towards his back.

With a growl, he turned to block the large claymore with Gungnir, the clash between the two weapons caused sparks to fly between them. Shockwave rippled through the area, sending debris flying in all directions.

And yet, despite clearly blocking the attack, a large bloody cut appeared once more on the God's body.

'This ability should be from the boy. An ability similar to Gungnir's absolute hit.' He inwardly thought as he focuses all his strength into his leg and kicked Zenkichi to his solar plexus, sending him flying in the air, he raised his right hand up and wrote a rune the air, with a bright golden light, hundreds of spears of white light bloated the sky and rained down towards Zenkichi.

As Odin watched the hail of spears descending upon Zenkichi, he couldn't help but feel a rush of exhilaration. It had been so long since he had faced an opponent who could truly challenge his power and push him to his limits.

The feeling of adrenaline coursing through his veins, the thrill of battle and the uncertainty of the outcome, it was a sensation he had almost forgotten.

"Ah," A wide perverted smile split across Odin's wrinkled face. "this is so fun!"

But he was soon surprised to feel magical disturbance around him.

Looking down, a familiar hexagonal rune glowing beneath his feet. Odin's eyes widened in shock and realization, "Hngh?!"

In an instant, Odin felt a overwhelming wave of magical power surge through him and pull him into the ground. Of course, it had only managed to keep in place for just a few seconds.

But that had been enough for Zenkichi to appear right before him, Brunhilde's spear in hand, growing bigger with every moment, pulsating with overwhelming power.

"This is the end, Odin!" Zenkichi and Brunhilde both exclaimed in unison, their voices blending into one. Odin's heart skipped a beat as he witnessed the culmination of their combined strength once more.

He couldn't teleport, something about the spear's ability caused him to be unable to escape just like the previous time. It wasn't just magical properties that locked down the space-time area around him, the absolute hit ability of the boy; but there was also some type of authority from the spear itself

He couldn't escape, and unlike last time, he will die.

The only reason he had lived was because he had tapped into the infinite well of energy and vitality from the great tree that connects all realms, Yggdrasil. It was a only one-time use per day ability because even himself he couldn't handle all the tree's power, it would literally inflate him like a balloon and explode like one as well.

"Heh," But despite his critical situation, Odin couldn't help but chuckle. "To face death once more... It's been too long."

With a calm and steady expression, Odin raised Gungnir and prepared himself for the final battle. Even if he knew that victory was near impossible, he relished in the thrill and chaos of the fight.

He was, and forever be, a God of War.

Time seemed to slow down as Zenkichi and Brunhilde's attack approached. Odin could sense the raw power surging towards him, ready to consume him completely.

And in that moment, Odin felt alive.

As the attack made impact and engulfed him in a blinding light, Odin's mind was flooded with memories. Memories of countless battles, victories, and defeats. Memories of ruling Asgard and protecting his people.

'My sons, live well and rule our people gloriously. Well, I should say Balder would be the one to rule them well. My son Thor, you just take too much of me.'

'My wife, despite how I feel about your constant bitching, I am grateful to you for putting up with me and sticking with me through the years. Hah, if I had known this would happen, I could've at least made love to you one last time...'

'Brunhilde...'

And as the final blow struck, Odin couldn't help but smile.

'Fuck you.'

...

Up in the higher Gods' viewing room, a tall man with flowing red hair sat on a stone throne, his arms crossed before his chest.

He was Thor, the God of Thunder and Son of Odin.

Despite witnessing his father's end, Thor's emotionless face remained the same as always. He merely closed his eyes and bowed his head,

"Rest well now, father. You've earned it."

On the other side of his seat was a certain Trickster God, Loki.

Unlike his usual creepy and eccentric behavior, Loki was unusually quiet. He too, had witnessed Odin's demise, and although he found amusement in the chaos and thrill of the battle, there was a hint of sadness in his eyes.

"Odin... always the fool," Loki muttered under his breath, his voice tinged with a mixture of admiration and bitterness.

Thor glanced at Loki, before looking back at the arena.

Today, they silently and respectfully mourn their leader.

Tomorrow, they will seek retribution.

That, Loki swore when his time comes.

...

"Hooh. So the old crow hit the bucket before me," Zeus mused to himself as he observed the events from his own viewing room.

Zeus, the King of the Greek Gods, had always held a complicated relationship with Odin. They were two of the most powerful gods in their respective pantheons, and their clashes were legendary.

Odin's death, however, brought mixed emotions for Zeus. On on hand, it signaled a shift in the balance of power among the gods in Heaven. On the other hand, he lost an equal and a friend that shared somewhat equal 'ideals'.

'Farewell, old friend. Don't worry, while you're gone, I'll help out whichever son you chose to be your heir and consolidate their power to the throne of Asgard. In exchange,' A wide creepy smile split across the wrinkled old face of Zeus. 'I'll also help comfort your now widowed wife. Kukukukuku.'

"Lord Zeus, you're showing that disgusting perverted grin of yours again." A handsome man wearing a butler's outfit, Hermes, flatly said to his king.

"Opps, my bad, my bad." Zeus quickly composed himself, his smile returning to a more neutral expression. "Just a passing thought, my loyal attendant."

Hermes raised an eyebrow skeptically but decided not to press the matter. Instead, he returned his attention to the ongoing battle in the arena.

*Crack*

Though his gaze soon turned towards the seat on where his half-brother, Ares, a true meathead with muscles that could make any bodybuilder kneel down in awe, was crushing his armrests.

"Are you upset, dear brother?" Hermes said.

Ares grounded his teeth, "How could I not, Hermes? Another God has fallen and the one who fell was a Chief God of a pantheon! This victory just made us Gods lose more face and confidence and gave the humans a third consecutive winning streak, boosting their morale and hope."

"Oh? And why would the latter be a problem? I'm sure the next match would crush these emotions they're feeling."

Ares clicked his tongue, "Tch. You don't get it, Hermes. In war, what decides the tide of battle? Number of men? Strength? Technology? No." He clenched his fist and beat it on his chest. "It's emotions. If this keeps up, sooner or later, the humans will win and our strongest fighters will die."

"I see." Hermes furrowed his brows in thought. "...Is this really all about that? Or is it also because Lord Odin is your idol as the strongest God of War?"

"...." Ares looking away from Hermes, his expression conflicted. "Maybe a little bit of both..."

Hermes sighed, patting his brother's shoulder. "Don't worry, Ares. We'll figure something out. The gods won't be defeated so easily."

...

"L-Lord Odin..." Heimdall stammered, the hand he held his horn/microphone on went slacked and the sound of his voice trembled with sadness and disbelief. "You... you're gone..."

As the Allfather's faithful servant and gatekeeper of Asgard, Heimdall had witnessed countless battles and seen Odin emerge victorious time and time again. But this... this was different. Odin, his leader and friend, had met his end in an epic battle.

Heimdall's heart ached as he looked upon the motes of golden light rising into the sky, the god he had sworn to protect was gone.

But amidst the sorrow, Heimdall was still a professional.

So with a clenched hand, he raised the microphone and announced to the whole crowd of Gods and Humans,

"Winner of the Fifth Match of Ragnarok! The nameless young hero of Japan, Zenkichi Hitoyoshi!!"

The crowds' reaction were mixed but the humans were all filled with joy and excitement. They cheered and applauded for Zenkichi, celebrating his victory over the mighty Odin. The impact of this win reverberated through the arena, sparking a new hope and determination in the hearts of humans everywhere.

Zenkichi panted heavily, stumbling forward for a bit before the armor on his body glowed and Brunhilde appeared by his side, hugging him. "Hey, hey. Take it easy there. I got you."

"Thanks..." Zenkichi weakly smiled before looking at the aftermath of the battle, the smoke and dust settling around him, and realized that Odin was nowhere to be seen.

He had done it. He had actually defeated a God!

"Lord Odin...." Brunhilde looked at the aftermath with a complicated expression.

But just to be safe, Zenkichi waited for a certain announcement.
