Devil's Luck[Arc 5: Worlds Apart]

Zenkichi Hitoyoshi is a young man, destined to be chained by fate in the early story of canon. He was a man without ambition, drive, will and talent to become something great. Well, that'll soon change. For better, or for worse. .... AN: Alright, let's do this one last time. Here's another Medaka Box fanfic that I hope it'll get to a hundred chapters before I drop it, or not? It depends on life really. And positive comments and reviews, I don't really care much of power stones(tho, that doesn't mean you can't...) but positive feedback on my work really inspires me more to write. Want to check out my pa-treon and be ahead of your fellow WN kin? Well here's the link: pa–treon.com/FroztDouluo *Just get rid of the dash. Edit: I just couldn't find any good art for the cover.... Is this fine? Schedule and the amount of chapters I'd be popping out? Tuesday and Thursday(UTC +8), 2–3 chapters a week(it's usually just 2 chapters because I'm slow at making anime related stories).

Chapter 6: A talk between childhood friends

"Alright, give me your pitch and what benefits do I get in joining. The afternoon classes are about to start." Zenkichi asked Medaka, who is standing across a mirror, after eating his cookies. Unfortunately there were only a dozen cookies, not enough to really fill his stomach, thankfully Medaka didn't let Shiranui come along with them to the student council room or he'd never get one.

He was now leisurely drinking his green tea whilst facing the door, already thinking of escaping if he isn't satisfied with the so-called "benefits" he'll get for joining, so he didn't notice Medaka undressing in front of the mirror as they talked.

"But even so, why me? Aside from our friendship, there are a lot of other students in the academy that are more qualified than me for any position of the student council. Just choose any of them to help you, I got some important things to do." And he wasn't lying. He wanted to further test out his new skill at a secluded area in the school and get accustomed to it so he can use it effectively in battle.

Now, why would he worry about hypothetical battles in the first place? Isn't this just high school? This isn't military school or

Simple, the fact he has a system and Medaka Kurokami is in this school. One of the many things a person has to learn when getting a cheat in their second life, like a system, was that a fight would be inevitable, no matter what they do, it would come for the protagonist.

Lastly, wherever Medaka Kurokami is, some way or another, there would always be a fight.

"Oh, but I disagree. Zenkichi, despite what you think about yourself, I consider you to be someone very valuable. To the point that I wouldn't be able to find anyone else like you in the world." Medaka coyly replied.

"This is just plain favoritism prez. Almost everyone in school knows I'm your childhood friend. If you let me join the student council without any valid reason, then there'd be some students voicing their dissatisfaction and it would lead to salty rumors that would then affect your reputation."

Zenkichi took the last sip of his tea with a blank expression on his face before setting the teacup on the table. "By the way, what kind of tea is this? It's good."

"Do you like it? It's a new blend that one of my family's companies is working on, and since I like it as well I decided to bring it." Medaka said as she looked at herself in the mirror, paper fan on hand, completely showing her beautiful and curvaceous bod only garbed with a simple white bra and panty, she then did a twirl.

"...Your presidency would probably end even before we move up to being second years." Zenkichi muttered nonchalantly.

"So what? Did you think I care what they think of me? Do you really think so shallow of me, Zenkichi?" Hearing his name being called out, Zenkichi frowned and turned towards Medaka and his eyes widened in shock, but the latter paid no heed to his expression and continued, "Tell, why do you think I wanted to become the student council president?"

"...Uh, okay first of all, why in the hell are you in your underwear?!" Zenkichi yelled out in disbelief, his eyes went down to the big and jiggly melons that were confined by a piece of white clad and then continued checking her entire body for a full three seconds before looking away.

"Irrelevant! I ask of you, and I want an immediate answer, why did I want to be a student council president? Why did I covet the position? Hmph!" Medaka flipped her paper fan in front of her mouth and raised her head, acting completely proud and shameless in showing her body to Zenkichi making the young man's eyelids twitched. Not knowing the paper fan was hiding her smug smirk.

'My, you're so adorable Zenkichi. Even when you changed a bit of your personality and demeanor, you're still so shy and meek in front of my beauty.' She was chuckling internally.

She wasn't going to lie. When she went to get Zenkichi to have him join her student council, looking at his back, there was a moment when she was at a loss– at whether the person that was talking to Shiranui, her double, was actually Zenkichi Hitoyoshi.

For a moment, she didn't know why, but Zenkichi's figure seemed to have become bigger for a moment, resembling a fat person, before she blinked and the back she was looking at was Zenkichi.

'It was probably my imagination. Ugh, having to work on the paperwork to get my suggestion box approved and doing some miscellaneous tasks around the entire school to solidify my position for three whole weeks without sleep had really taken its toll. Even for me, it's too much. Hmm. I have nothing planned this Saturday, I might just–'

"–daka! Oi, earth to Medaka-chan!" Medaka blinked her eyes as a pair of fingers was snapping repeatedly before her eyes registered the face of Zenkichi looking at her in concern and confusion.

"You alright?"

"I– yes, I am. Sorry about that, I had something in my mind that had been troubling for a while." Medaka lightly coughed and her eyes blinked as she looked into Zenkichi's eyes.

'Huh? Were Zenkichi's eyes so... deep? Ah!' She went into a daze as she stared at the blue ocean eyes of Zenkichi for a moment before she shook her head, thinking it was her exhaustion finally catching up to her, she said. "So anyways, back to the topic. I wanted this position–"

"Eh, hold that thought and let me just say," Zenkichi cut her off as he lifted a neat stack of clean white clothes and presented them towards her. "wear this first before talking any further."

Medaka blinked. Okay, was she supposed to be flattered or mad that Zenkichi didn't want to see her in her underwear anymore?

"What is there to be embarrassed about around you? Haven't we shared a bath till sixth grade?"

Zenkichi facepalmed, he then turned his back towards her, and muttered, "That was when we were kids..."

Medaka looked at him with a deadpanned expression. Seeing he wasn't going to look at her until she wore some extra clothing, she rolled her eyes and started wearing the white gi that was showing an incredible view of her cleavage and a short bulky black skirt that had her surname in the middle.

"There, I'm wearing it. You can turn around now Zenkichi." Zenkichi grunted and turned around to look at her.

"So, what were you going to say about your reason for being in the student council president?"

Medaka opened her mouth but she stopped, she stared at Zenkichi's face and she seemed to have come to a realization as she then let out a frustrated sigh.

She crossed her arms and snorted, "Do I even need to say it? I can tell by the look in your eyes that you already know my reason."

Zenkichi was silent as he looked at Medaka with a blank expression before the corners of his lips curled up.

"Heh, I thought you weren't going to notice. Yeah, I already know why you became the student president for the same reason why you started the suggestion box—you wanted to make people happy."

'You were born to make people happy.' A young boy's voice flashed through Medaka's ears as her eyes widened, as a flashback back when she was a young child. Back when she was running around in a certain hospital before stumbling into the children's playroom and met with one kid in particular.

It was when she and Zenkichi first met, and when he told her, no, gave her the reason as to why she was born.

'Does he remember?' She blankly stared at Zenkichi, analyzing his facial and body expression to figure out if he really does remember the time when he was a kid but even with her genius intellect she wasn't able to discern what he was thinking. Unless she reads his mind...

Unfortunately however, she didn't know about a skill that pertains to reading minds for her to copy and learn to use more efficiently.

She shook her head, this wasn't the time. There was a request to be done today then there was that council recruitment meeting...ugh.

'Besides, I bet he doesn't remember that time and he just spouted those words as his honest opinion.'

Zenkichi scratched the back of his head, feeling slightly awkward at how much Medaka was staring at him before he couldn't take it anymore and said,

"So back to the reason as to why I'm here, why do you need my help?"

"Hm? I didn't bring you here because I needed your help."

"Huh?" Zenkichi raised an eyebrow.

"I've yet to encounter a job that's too challenging for me to handle alone. The reason why I brought you here," Medaka came closer to Zenkichi, stopping at arm's reach, she looked at him with a tender and soft look and said. "is because I need you. I need you by my side."

"...I see." Zenkichi muttered, his expression blank, as he and Medaka had a staring contest.

He lost. He closed his eyes and let out a sigh.

Medaka smiled. "For now, how about we start–"

"I have to refuse, student president." Zenkichi cut her off with an emotionless voice, making Medaka freeze in place with an opened mouth.

"W-What?" Before she could fully process what was going on, Zenkichi swiftly turned around and headed towards the door. "Wait, Zenkichi–!"

He opened the doors and shut them behind his back.
