Devil's Luck[Arc 5: Worlds Apart]

Zenkichi Hitoyoshi is a young man, destined to be chained by fate in the early story of canon. He was a man without ambition, drive, will and talent to become something great. Well, that'll soon change. For better, or for worse. .... AN: Alright, let's do this one last time. Here's another Medaka Box fanfic that I hope it'll get to a hundred chapters before I drop it, or not? It depends on life really. And positive comments and reviews, I don't really care much of power stones(tho, that doesn't mean you can't...) but positive feedback on my work really inspires me more to write. Want to check out my pa-treon and be ahead of your fellow WN kin? Well here's the link: pa–treon.com/FroztDouluo *Just get rid of the dash. Edit: I just couldn't find any good art for the cover.... Is this fine? Schedule and the amount of chapters I'd be popping out? Tuesday and Thursday(UTC +8), 2–3 chapters a week(it's usually just 2 chapters because I'm slow at making anime related stories).

Chapter 55: Mysterious Enemy

The city... was in total chaos. As blood, death and destruction was spread throughout the burning buildings and roads, filled with people that had one goal in mind.

To bring death and despair.

"Rahahahahaha!! Die, die, die, die! DIIIIEEE!!"

"Come...! Come!! Let me taste your blood, your tears, your fears, YOUR DESPAIR!!"

"Kill, kill, kill, kill... KILL!!"

People of all kinds were spread all over the apocalyptic turned city but in a certain view over it all, it seems as though it had two armies facing against each other on each side of the city. One was filled with a literal wave of insane looking people running all over and causing chaos and misery, with the most threatening of all were strange people in black suits, wearing gigantic bear heads with black and white theme over their own and dark scarfs around their neck as they advanced through the main road of the city with Thompson smgs in their hands—spewing bullets at buildings, windows and... people with accuracy and precision.

But the most peculiar of the bunch of insane people were some high school students leading the charge and causing the most damage, their Hakoniwa Academy uniforms torn and worn out but their ferocity and viciousness as they caused destruction seemed unstoppable.

While on the other side that had less destroyed and burning areas were filled with numerous police officers, JSDF, and other secret and rogue officers that were holding back the rampaging citizens and students whilst helping out the non-influenced citizens out of harms way and into the safe haven they were holding out for the remaining survivors.

It was like the end of times, the apocalypse has begun.

Zenkichi watched all the ensuing chaos through binoculars at the top of a convenience store. His eyes were emotionless and calm, but there was no mistaking his shaking hands that said about his inner turmoil.

"... Tch. It's worse than I first thought, to think that the Ultimate Yakuza and his syndicate would get influenced by the despair video as well. Going through the city undetected is going to be harder now." Naze clicked her tongue, with a different pair of binoculars in her hands, she surveyed other parts of the city to plan out their route.

"Ryota, what route do you usually take? Would it be safe for us to use it?" Zenkichi turned and asked Ryota, who was busy munching on some snacks and drinks that they ransacked from the convenience store.

Hey, it was an emergency and he did leave some money on the register so it wasn't considered stealing.

Ryota, eating potato chips, shook his head and replied, "It's no use. I've checked the route I usually take and it's either blocked off by debris or crazed people. What's even worse is that the signal's down, so we don't know the entire current situation in the city and the rest of the world."

Zenkichi nodded, taking down his binoculars. Letting out a sigh, he added, "I thought getting back to the surface... some things would look right and normal. But I guess I underestimated how dangerous people could be if their common sense is distorted and moral inhibitors are taken off."

"Tell me why can't we just rob some electronic store to get you the necessary equipment to make the cure for this whole mess? Actually, why didn't you just create one back at the facility?" Naze asked, turning towards Ryota.

Ryota shook his head, dropping his shoulders. "Believe me, I would've done that the second I was free after being forced to upload the Despair Video. But the Hope Video that I'm making, needs a set of rare items that I've secretly stashed in my apartment and the facility doesn't have them in stock."

Naze raised an eyebrow and snappily said, "Bullshit. How could the school, supported by rich billionaires all year around, not have what a 16 year old need to create a cure for the Despair Video."

Ryota purse his lips, hesitation clear on his face, and finally he replied by muttering,

"Hope. That's what the facility lacked, something that couldn't be easily found in any store."

"... What?!" Naze incredulously stared at him. "Well, duh! What the fuck do you mean by hope!? Are you literally saying that you have a physical manifestation of 'Hope' stashed in your room?"

Even Zenkichi stared at him in disbelief.

"I-It's something like that but it's not that ridiculous... But please trust me that the parts needed for the Hope Video are in my apartment room." He understands their doubt, anyone wouldn't believe that he had something as Hope in his apartment.

Naze clicked her tongue, leaned back from the edge of the roof, and said, "Fine, you're literally our last hope to stop this anyway. So we shouldn't argue on what you need to make a cure. But you better make it as quick as possible when we get there."

"Yeah, if you're honest Ryota and this part that you need is rare and that you only have it, then I won't kick up a fuss." Zenkichi said, crossing his arms.

Ryota nodded at them, sagging his body in relief. Happy that they trusted him.

"Though I hope it's not drugs or anything..." Naze suddenly said, tilting her head in deep thought.

"What? N-No! It's not drugs! Where would I even get drugs?"

"Is it porn mags then?" Zenkichi asked, a smirk on his face.

"No! W-Why it be porn mags or drugs when I'm trying to make a video?!"

"I don't know man, don't some people use them to reach enlightenment?" Zenkichi shrugged.

Ryota looked offended and said, "I don't need some shitty high to make videos! I'll have you know that–"

Naze sighed, cutting him off as she took a step forward and shook her head. "Alright, alright. Let's stop teasing him and just focus on getting to his apartment and retrieving the parts he needs for the Hope Video. I found the safest route that I could find, so follow me."

Zenkichi chuckled and nodded in agreement. "Right. Let's move out."

Ryota grumbled but nodded, taking some snacks and drinks with him. He needed the nutrition for the blood he lost.

The three of them left the convenience store and made their way through the streets, avoiding the crazed people and debris as best they could. As they walked, they could hear screams, gunshots, and the sound of buildings collapsing behind them.

It was like walking through hell itself.

But they didn't falter or give up. They had a mission to complete, a hope to restore.

And nothing was going to stop them from achieving it.

Zenkichi hoped they would finally end all of this.

But, on the off chance that they can't reverse this whole situation, then there was another way.

'It has to.'

Back in the underground Flask facility, where the Door of Rejection previously was.

Medaka stood in the middle of a ruined corridor, she was silent. She couldn't move, can't even make a twitch of her muscles. She stood like some sort of statue, frozen until a certain time is reached.

Unexpectedly, as minutes passed by, her white eyes would show her once normal and sane purple pupils. But a strange magical circle would appear, glowing on her forehead, and her eyes would return to becoming crazed. But her eyes would make a come again and again, and the interval of her becoming insane again would get slower and slower.

This cycle repeated for almost half an hour and Medaka's eyes stayed sane for the last 10 minutes and the magical circle on her forehead began fading away.

Suddenly, a thumping sound resounded throughout the corridors and Medaka's pupils instantly went to glance at the corner of her eyes.

".... I thought something was off when one of my spells was fading away, but to think it'd be you." A soft voice sounded in Medaka's ears, their identity hidden as he or she stood behind her.

"My, my. No wonder that kid thought of you so highly, you even managed to break out of a high level mind control spell. Now, why are you standing there like an idiot, my dear? Let me see..." They sounded amused and Medaka felt a pair of hands grasping both sides of her head.

"Hehehe. Well then, what caused you to— Oh? Oh my. Oh my, oh my, oh my. What do we have here?" A smirk found itself on the person's hidden face.

"Looks like things are about to get interesting."
