Chapter 5 - Glances

Monday morning brought with it the comforting predictability of routine. Derrick was up and about, as usual, preparing for another day at school. As he hurriedly dressed and gathered his belongings, the house was still, save for the soft hum of the early morning.

He glanced at the clock, noting that he was running ahead of schedule. As he tightened his tie, Derrick called out to Samira, who was sipping her morning tea in the kitchen, "I'm off to school, Samira. Don't forget to lock up if you leave."

With a nod, she wished him a good day, "You too, Derrick. Have a great day at school." Her eyes strayed toward her phone, a subtle distraction in her morning ritual.

As Derrick closed the door behind him, he couldn't help but feel like a guest in his own home, a feeling that had grown increasingly familiar.

Erick, on the other hand, sauntered into the kitchen, a playful glint in his eyes as he leaned against the counter, sipping his morning coffee. "Good morning, Samira. Any plans for today?"

Samira set her phone aside and looked up, her gaze meeting Erick's. "Morning, Erick. Not really, just taking it easy. Why do you ask?"

Erick's grin was contagious as he continued, "I thought, maybe, you'd like to join me at the gym today. A little workout?"

Samira raised an eyebrow, a hint of intrigue in her eyes. "A workout with the great Wimbledon champion? What's the catch, Erick?"

Erick chuckled, his coffee mug placed on the counter. "No catch at all, just thought it could be fun."

Samira gave it a moment's thought and found herself drawn to the idea. "You know what, it has been a while since I hit the gym. Sounds fun. What time do we go?"

Erick glanced at his watch and suggested, "How about after my morning run? Let's say around 10:00 a.m.?"

"Sounds good. I'll be ready," Samira agreed, a genuine smile playing on her lips. She couldn't deny the appeal of spending time with Erick outside of their home.

As the morning hours passed, their time at the gym turned out to be more enjoyable than they had imagined. There was an undeniable chemistry between Erick and Samira, a natural synergy that made their workout seem effortless. Laughter and shared moments filled the space as they playfully teased each other.

After their gym session, they decided to cool down with a trip to a local smoothie shop. As they sipped their fruity concoctions and sat at a corner table, the flirtatious undercurrent between them became more apparent. Erick couldn't help but admire Samira's beauty, while she found herself drawn to his charisma and charm.

The conversation took a more personal turn as Samira opened up about her past. "You know, my parents disowned me after I left Islam, it was... really shitty," she confided, a hint of vulnerability in her voice.

Erick listened with empathy and shared his own experiences. "I am really sorry to hear that. I know it doesn't compare, but I can understand the weight of family expectations. My parents were incredibly demanding, especially when it came to tennis. It wasn't easy."

Samira sighed, her voice tinged with sadness. "Yeah, but you turned out alright, but for me, I... I still don't know what I'm doing."

Erick assured her, "What do you mean? You're a vlogger; you just need to see more of the world and put yourself out there."

Their dialogue brought them closer, the connection between them deepening. Erick's words of comfort and understanding resonated with Samira, and it was clear that the bond between them was growing stronger.

As the day continued, their playful flirtations became more pronounced. Glances held longer, touches lingered, and the chemistry was undeniable. And then, as the day drew to a close, in a moment that surprised them both, their lips met in a kiss. It was filled with shock and a hint of guilt, a moment that would change the course of their lives forever.
