Demons of My Heart

I remember what it was like to live in a cage. From the days when I was little, I remember how it felt to be sold, used, beaten, and persecuted. I remember then as the last vestiges of my humanity fled from me and created the monster that they so feared. The Angels? God? They had abandoned me. An empty cry to a mother never to be answered. Humanity likes to cage that which it fears. To tame forces of nature, to control that which is beyond their understanding. They had tried to capture me again, and they had failed. I remember the day they killed me. I remember the day they made me…'We of the Succubi show no weakness.' -------------------------------------------------------------- Since the day Kali lost her sight, she has been cold. Rhys

As Rhys descended, I jumped back on the attack. Slicing through flesh and bone, my blade was relentless. Blood spattered my face and clothes, my jacket was in tatters, but I continued. Demons were knocked back from the gale force of Rhys' wings. He started tearing apart demons with his claws. I saw him coil like a snake and strike the jugular of a passing demon with his fangs. He was a god of destruction. His eyes flamed, glowing in the dark night. His demon was in control.

The last of the demons fell, scattering to dust in the wind. I sank to my knees, breathing heavily. I zipped the shredded leather of my jacket closed. A dark shadow loomed over me, then knelt before me. A large hand lifted my chin to meet a luminescent gaze. His other hand smoothed over my cheek. His brows furrowed in concern.

"Are you alright?" He was also breathing heavily. I leaned my head into his touch and sighed. I felt a deep inhuman rattle coming from the centre of my chest. I realized I was vibrating.

A mating call. I nodded my head yes briefly and pulled my head back. I lifted myself to my feet and dusted myself off. Exhaustion could take over when I was back at home.

"How did you find me? Did Dean call?" I cleaned off my blades and placed them back in their sheaths.

"He did, yes, but I would have been able to find you regardless. You gave me your blood. And you called." He tilted his head, listening to the sound coming from me. His eyes flared brightly again. Then he shook his head and held out his hand.

"Let's go home." He said. I placed my hand in his, and electricity tingled in my palm. I flailed when I felt him slide his hand down my leg and swing me up into his arms. I smiled a little but struggled.

"I can walk, you know. This is undignified!" I struggled to right myself, but his arms were like iron vices. Shocks scattered my skin where he touched. My struggling just rubbed my flushed breasts against his chest, I felt him growl softly.

"You're dead on your feet, let me get you home." Eventually I stopped struggling, feeling oddly comforted in his arms. Exhaustion swept over me and my head spun. I sighed and rested my head against his shoulder. I felt him tense slightly, then rest his head on top of mine. He tensed his legs and crouched, then launched himself into the air. His wings burst forth and we swooped high into the sky, reaching for the effervescent moon.

He flew in through the open bay window of my living room, I'm assuming where he exited from. He walked to the bedroom and placed me under the covers, shyly tucking the blankets in around me. He paced in front of the bed for a second, before climbing in the other side and lying down next to me, propping himself up on his elbow. I yawned and snuggled into my pillow.

"Thank you for coming for me. Sorry about that." I said shyly. Embarrassed I had caused a spectacle. I was woman enough to admit that I may not have gotten out unscathed tonight without him. He smiled and tucked a stray hair behind my ear.

"I will always come for you. It's not like keeping you alive all these years has been easy. You used to jump from trees!" He laughed and shook his head at the memory. I smiled and snorted.

"I was six! I thought I could fly." I laughed with him and lied on my side, so I was facing him. I could feel the warmth radiating from his body, his shirt was ripped, displaying his toned pectorals and chiseled abs, his golden tan skin dusted lightly with dark hair. Fixated on his chest, my hand reached out to trace the brand over his heart. I felt him shiver. The scent of cloves became stronger. The rattling in my chest sounded loudly, vibrating my body. His eyes flashed. I blushed and pulled my hand away from his chest. Looking away from him.

"I'm sorry. I can't control it. I don't know what it is." I rambled; my face felt hot. He stopped me from moving my hand with his and held my hand over his heart. He reached his free hand forward to my hip and pulled me against him, he leaned in close to whisper in my ear.

"I know." His lips brushed the sensitive skin of my neck. Then he breathed quietly. I listened hard, and I heard it. A deep rattle coming from his chest, masked by the beat of his heart. I froze, my heart pounded louder and faster. At the sound my body felt hot, I flushed. His eyes glowed, he leaned forward, so my chest pressed against the heat of his. He nibbled on my earlobe, grazed his teeth over my neck, then began feathering kisses down to my collarbone.

My hands rested on his biceps; my nails dug in lightly. I ran my hands down his arms, then down his hard chest. My heart fluttered and I breathed heavily, closing my eyes. This was new territory for me. I was not used to intimacy.

"Oh!" I called, for what I didn't know. His demon purred.

"Oh Kali…you're so goddamn beautiful." He whispered. I blushed.

"I've waited so long." He smiled and kissed my lips gently

I stared up to see him looking up into my eyes, I was mesmerized by the ruby orbs. His eyes dangerously bright. I knew his demon was mostly in control.

"It's hard to resist you." His deep timbre echoed in my ear. I leaned forward so my face was inches from his.

"I…I'm not sure I want you to." I looked up at him through my lashes.

"Kali, I…" He trailed off, looking uncertain. There was an odd vulnerability in his eyes. He looked away. "I need you to be sure."

"I'm not sure of anything anymore...but I want to try." I whispered, casting my eyes downward. This was a lot, I didn't know if I could handle it. It was all happening too quickly. I leaned forward, and took a deep breath.
