Chapter 15

"I am sorry." was the first thing to come out of Damien's mouth as he quietly prepared how his teacher would take this entire situation in.

Normally, Monica would be pleased with Damien's growth but would never be surprised in the slightest since he had a limitless amount of potential according to that legendary figure.

However, with a loss in one on one combat with another student who was less likely to truly climb the ladder, this looked extremely unsightly.

This world they lived in, was a very cruel one where only those who wielded enough strength would be able to live the type of life they wished.

Monica wanted nothing more for Damien to experience such a life in the future and he could now tell his teacher was incredibly furious about this.

"You shouldn't say such things unless you mean it. Everyone fails once in a while regardless of who they are. Just heal as fast as you can because this will delay your training." Monica after hearing Damien's initial apology replied.

"Besides, in this next portion of your training, if you were to fail, it will cost you more than just some time in bed healing your wounds."

"Originally, I came here to take you immediately to the outside world because I was also called out to handle fixing someone else's mess as per usual."

"Looking at your injuries, it should take you about one week to completely heal. Luckily, that is enough time for me to contact the base and to tell them we will be heading out together."

"You may have lost to a fellow student, but truthfully speaking, he was an upperclassman which means that you still have the ability to complete this next part of your training."

"Wait, why are you going to bring me to a base in the outside world, when I must train? Unless the base you speak of is under constant threat and you just want me to throw my life away?" Damien asked Monica with some cold sweat pouring down his face.

"Stupid child, how will you be able to carve your name in history if you continue being a worried little pest?"

"If you realized how many resources were given to you in order to prepare you properly, you would most likely puke with an endless stream of blood!"

"Part of this investment is because he saw value in you which could possibly one day turn the tides of the many battles ahead of us."

"I am going to leave you to heal, and in one week we will be heading out. I will explain to you the current situation at hand before we leave."

"This will consist of your first official mission, so you better be prepared to give it your all, or you will die along with those who accompany you!" Monica shouted out before storming out of the room.

She was disappointed that her student had the ability to one day surpass her, but was still unwilling to face any of the demons and creatures the dark church was still sending out to battle.

Monica to this day still couldn't understand what it would take in order for Damien to finally take that dire step to go from a simple child to a true warrior.

After many years of trying different methods to unlock this potential Damien had coursing through his body, she still couldn't come up with anything.

So last minute, once her service was requested from a nearby military base, she finally made a judgement call.

Since Damien was now taking up too much of her time, it was putting the others in a tougher position having such a powerful individual taking a back seat.

Sure, part of the resources was a donation of funds to make up for paying others extra for prolonged duties. However, this did not come without consequences.

At this point, Damien needed to prove himself even if it was on a smaller scale mission where he had enough backup to survive and complete it.

Still being a student, if he could complete a mission, it would prove that Damien did have value not just for the future, but for the present as well.

Given his mastery over several weapons already to a rather high extent for his age, if he were to unlock his warrior instincts, he could begin to take on more missions in the near future and his strength would over time begin to make a qualitative change.

Monica would be pleased if this would occur as well because deep down she wanted to get back onto the battlefield.

If Damien could venture out on his own as a usable piece for the Crimson Tower, her role in this process would finally be complete.

She loved battle, but what Monica enjoyed the most was the amount of money and resources she would receive in exchange.

The stronger an individual was, meant the survival of their race when fighting against the dark church's forces.

If someone was strong enough, they would be worshipped as chosen ones sent from the heavens to save humanity.

Therefore, there was simply no limit to what would be given in exchange for their services regardless of how starving or poor the citizens of cities across the world were.
