Chapter 31: Phone call

Lin Fan was certain that this quest that was just given to him was certain death, even the quests that were the prerequisites to this quest were considered certain death.

In his current state, there was no way that he would be able to survive.

However, even if it meant that he couldn't survive now, it didn't mean that he wouldn't be able to survive in the future.

He had been able to see how effective the stats points had been, so he knew that he should add all the points that he received, but even then that wasn't enough.

After this quest, he had learned about these Power Users and the various powers that people involved with these targets had. These were powers that went far beyond the limits of humanity.

For example, that punch that Liu Yan used which had completely collapsed that first person's chest, creating that mess of blood and flesh. That kind of strength was not something that normal people could ever reach.

Then there was Su Yan who had been able to completely overpower Liu Yan even though he possessed this kind of strength. It showed that there was always someone stronger, but it also showed that the people in these quests the system gave were definitely not normal.

They were also abnormal not just physically, but also mentally.

Su Yan had been willing to die to follow Liu Yue's orders all those times…

That was the fact that Lin Fan had been trying to avoid the entire time, but now he had no choice but to face it.

To face these people, he had to become stronger and to be more heartless. Only by showing no mercy could he deal with these kinds of people.

After checking this, Lin Fan also went to go check his rewards for this quest.

Since this was an E rank quest, once he finished it, he gained more access to the system.

There were more tabs that appeared in the system's screens, but the most important things to him were two certain tabs.

They were the lucky draw and shop tabs respectively.

After he had upgraded his system, these were the two most important new functions for him.

The rewards that he received for finishing this E rank quest was 150 points, one lucky draw chance, and the Nova Group and the Yasha Group.

When Lin Fan saw the final two rewards, he couldn't stop the black lines from appearing on his face.

That wasn't something that the system was giving him, it was something that he received in the course of his quest, but the system was taking credit for it.

It was just like the hundred thousand that he received from the first quest.

On their way back, Murong Yue had actually talked to Lin Fan about that.

There was a bounty that was set for Chu Chu since she was quite a prolific serial killer, having over ten victims already. It was a case that had completely stumped the police which was why the bounty was so high, being one hundred thousand.

Lin Fan would be receiving this since he was the one that had brought her to justice, but the system was claiming it as a reward that it was giving Lin Fan…

Still Lin Fan didn't mind that now since these two were quite important.

They were gangs that had ruled the underworld of the third ring, so even if some of their members were in custody right now, that still wouldn't affect their power. It wouldn't take long before the leader of both gangs would be released, that was just the way it was.

With the change that Lin Fan accepted, he knew that he would have to use them in the future, so he couldn't lose them right now.

But that was something to deal with tomorrow.

The only thing that Lin Fan had to do right now was sleep since that was what his body demanded.

After the experience of that entire day and those five loads, his body had reached a breaking point. As soon as he collapsed onto his bed, he fell into a deep sleep.

When Murong Yue came to get him for dinner, she didn't get a single response. After waiting for a bit, she went into the room where she was shocked to see him collapsed on the bed. Only after she confirmed that he was still breathing did she calm down.

She could tell that he had been exhausted by his experience today, so she didn't try to wake him up and just let him sleep.

That was the longest sleep that Lin Fan ever had.

When he woke up the next morning, Lin Fan was shocked to see what time it was.

When Lin Fan collapsed last night, it was only around eight and when he woke up, it was already past noon.

Lin Fan had been sleeping for fourteen hours straight, but who could blame him after everything that happened last night?

But Lin Fan didn't immediately get up as he began thinking about what he had to do today.

However, as he was lost in thought, Lin Fan's phone suddenly rang.

Lin Fan jolted when he heard the ringing of his phone, but he quickly picked it up and saw a number that he wasn't familiar with.

After hesitating a bit, Lin Fan chose to pick up and he heard a voice that he was very familiar with now.

"Hey, I bet you didn't expect me, did you?" That voice said in a playful manner.

Lin Fan was taken aback when he heard this voice, but then he said, "You're already out?"

The voice on the other end was Yan Luo, but that was strange for Lin Fan since Yan Luo should still be locked up.

It had only been a single day, so how was Yan Luo let out already?

He heard a laugh from the other end before Yan Luo said, "Well yeah, no one on either side gave any information, so they couldn't hold us there without any evidence."

Lin Fan immediately said, "No evidence? What about Liu Yan's corpse?"

Yan Luo gave another laugh before saying, "And how could you prove that any of us did it? The way he was killed, was that something that normal people could do? There was no physical evidence that any of us even touched him, so how could they hold us?"

Lin Fan still didn't give up as he said, "But still, there were many of you that all had weapons, how could they let you off then?"

Yan Luo's laugh this time had a bitter tone underneath, "I say, you are our boss now. I've really never seen a boss who wanted his subordinates to stay in jail as much as you."

Lin Fan didn't say anything to this because he didn't know what to say. Now that Yan Luo had confirmed that he was now their boss, what happened last night that didn't seem real was now sinking in. He only half believed that he would become the boss and that there would be many people who resisted, which was what he was planning on taking care of today.

The Yasha Group and the Nova Group were important pieces for him in the future, so he wanted to consolidate his power as much as possible.

But Yan Luo was one of the leaders of the Yasha Group and he had accepted Lin Fan this easily, which meant that it shouldn't be as hard to take over as he thought…

Yan Luo didn't wait for Lin Fan to respond before saying, "They're only keeping a few of the people who had weapons in lock up, the rest of us are getting out without any charges since they don't have anything to charge us with. Not to mention that we have our own connections that can let us put some pressure on them to let us out early. They know what's good for them, so they did, if you get what I mean."

Lin Fan didn't know the specifics, but he got the gist.

This was just another part of the underworld, there would always be officials who would take bribes.

Lin Fan then changed the topic, "So what are you calling me for?"

Yan Luo gave a soft snort before saying, "Don't we need you to come in to take over as the boss? I'm calling to see when you have time, or are you not planning on being the boss?"

Lin Fan gave an "oh" sound before saying, "I'm a little busy today, can we do it next week?"

Yan Luo gave a chuckle as he said, "We can do it whenever you want, after all, you're the boss. Just give me a call whenever you want and I'll set it up for you. I have some other things to take care of now, so I'll call you later."

It sounded like Yan Luo was about to hang up, but Lin Fan couldn't help asking, "Why are you just following her orders and letting her make me the boss?"

Yan Luo didn't respond right away and after a bit of a pause, he said in a serious voice, "The young miss has already given us orders not to say anything to you, but since we're friends, I'll give you some advice. Don't dig any deeper into this, the young miss is not someone you can mess with. With the amount of power she has, it's easy for her to bury you, but for some reason, you've caught her attention and received her favour. This is a good thing for you, so just go along with what she wants for now, do you understand?"

Lin Fan could tell how serious Yan Luo was, so he didn't keep asking and just said, "Un."

Yan Luo heard this and then said, "Alright, I got to go now. I'll be waiting for your call."

After that, all Lin Fan heard was the dial tone once before the sound cut off.
