CHAPTER 9: Sorrow and Agony
"Mom! Dad! I'm here!" you shouted in a panicked tone. You are worried deeply for the safety of your family as every seconds pass your sweat starts to grow until you hear some shuffling inside the basement as it opens to reveal your mom smiling and crying
"Darling!!my son, im so happy" she hug you deeply as she cried. You hugged her tightly as tears start to form in your eyes.
"Where's dad?" you ask as you look inside the basement to look for you dad
"Darling, he is volunteering and defending the city" said your mom proudly as she smiles lightly but you can't help but notice the worry in your mom's eyes as you decided to look for dad
"I look for him later mom, let's talk inside" you suggested as your mom smiled and entered the bunker.
"Sooo,son? do you have any special someone?" your mom ask that caught you off guard as you spits the water your drinking
"No, mom..i was busy with work before this invasion" as you wipe your mouth as sadness covers your face as your mom holds your hands
"You should be looking for love, you are young and being young never lasts forever and life can be gone in a matter of seconds" she said warmly as you smiled
"Thanks mom, but with this invasion i don't think we have time for love" you said softly with a sad tone
"Love can be found in unexpected places" as she smiles again
"Yeah mom i know, but protecting the ones i love is important" you said
"Leave us here, we are old anyway, might as well live happily for merry old good death comes around" your mom says as she looks at the ceiling and unto you
"No mom!" you said aggressively that surprises your mom but she just smiled " i mean...i need you, both of you" you said sadly
"Even when your grown up already, sometimes you act like a baby" she said happily. The both of you laugh and chatted on your adventures and what your mom and dad has been doing. The alarm was raised and its sound can be heard as you stand up quickly
"Mom! where is dad station at?" you ask
"No son! stay here." as she holds your hand but you shakes it off
"Im already grown up, i can handle myself" you smiled and left the basement as it locks behind you
You rush towards the military base where you just escaped from. Since the monster is attacking the city. There are Apartments where your parents live, The checkpoint, The city hall, the eastern part of the city where the monster is attacking while the military base is in the south of the city. You rush towards where the monster are and you noticed some of the monster are slipping through the defences as you see a humanoid with wings and a giant claw towering about 3 meters as it shrieked at you. It flies upwards as you equipped the throwing dagger. You chucked some throwing daggers upwards toward the monster but it either misses or doesn't reach the monster. After a while the monster dives down towards you with its claw pointing to your body with extreme speed but you continued throwing knives at it as some hits but it barely affected the monster as its claw nearly hits you. A loud shout jerk the monster head towards the noise as you see your dad with a assault rifle and started shooting at it. The monster scream as bullet holes covered its body while you grab one of its wings with your strengthen arm and stabbed the humanoid in the back with knives as blood splatters but the monster flies upward as you grabbed at it. The monster flies down as it attempted to smash you to the ground but you ripped one of its wings as you fall to the ground from a height of a apartment. The monster was killed but your back is probably broken without the armour. Luckily only a few ribs was broken but then pain is still pain and it hurts. Your dad rushes towards you with a worried look
"What the heck are you doing here?!" shouted your angry dad
"To help.." as intense pain surge in your body
"Gahhh dammit, to protect the city" with a pained expression
"Come with me lets go back to the basement" demanded your dad as he helps you get up and walk towards the basement
"Dad, im sorry for abandoning you and mom for work"
"Its okay son, im just happy you are safe" said your dad
"Dad,why are volunteering when you are already old?" you snarled
"Old? im not old, can't you see me holding you" he laugh
"Sureee you are"
"I am," your dad retorted
As the both of you reach the basement. Your heart sank while your tears started flowing. You cannot believe what happens as you stayed in the grown frozen, scarred, broken. You hear a shout but you can't move as you see your corpse of your mother slashed by the eagle-like monster as it eats. You cannot believe what you see, you wish you didn't scream, you wish it's not real, you wish you can still see your mother's smile. Your knees on the ground as you see your dad slaughtered by the beast. As it eats your father, your heart was broken into pieces. You hope it never happens. With intense shock, you can't believe what's happening. You remember your time spent with your family happy as the monster closes into you. You hope you can just die with them as you kneeled there, unmoving. You hear a woman shouting and you see Leah slapping you but you didn't move. Leah grabbed your arms as she was able to put you in hee car as the car moves while being pursued by the monster.
"Why did you save me?" you ask softly that Leah almost can't hear it
"Why did you save me!!" you shouted in deep anger as you see the monster as you tried to open the car door.
"Shut up okay!!!" she shouted with a burst of anger but it turned in a pained expression
"You are not the only one who has lose someone," she said with a sad tone
"...I know!! but-but-- i..im sorry"
"Good, now do you want revenge or you just want to drop dead"
"Ill kill every single monster..every single one" you said with your eyes filled with anger and disdain
As you open the window of the car and peered outside as you started chucking knives to the eagle-like monster as it chases the car. Most of the throws miss but one knife hits the leg of the gigantic eagle as it sucks blood and weakening the monster but its speed is too much as you face it face to face in the door as you jumped outside to grab the monster on its gigantic wings. You were successful and you started stabbing the monster with infinite knives as the monster wiggled around and trying to shake you off but your grip is stronger as you continued stabbing it repeatedly. After a couple of shaking and stabbing the monster was finally killed as its back is covered with orange knives as a large blood pool surrounded you. You sat on the carcass from the fatigue as it rains. You were tired on the inside and outside as you cried and shouted in agony and grief. A car stops in front of you and you see Leah with a large black umbrella. She has a sad expression with eyes full of sadness as she touches your face with a half-smile
"Let's go" she said warmly
"Ok" you replied as you wipe your tears and proceeded to enter the car silently
After an hour of driving. Your injuries started to catch up to you as you screamed in pain as Leah turned around to look what happened
"Its fine" you said painfully
"No, you're not fine" she demanded as she stops the car and inspected your injuries. She checks your ribs carefully but you were distracted by her beauty and you can't help but stare at her while she is checking your injuries. She looks at you as you jerked your head around but it seems to notice your staring as she smiled lightly
"Hmm, you have at least 3 broken ribs" Leah gets out of the car and grab something which is ice and some pain killers as she returned to you with a smile
"Take off your shirt" she said while smiling
"I don't like where this is going"
"Oh you are gonna like it" she chuckled as you take off your shirt to see a breastplate but you quickly unequipped it. Your chest was covered with bruises and some parts have violet colors as Leah gasp in horror and she looked at you with a sad expression
"Don't worry about me, im fine" you said but in truth you are hurt.
"Ok fine then" as she turns around and take back the ice but you grab her wrist
"Just kidding" you gave her an awkward smile so you can hide the pain
"Here, take this ice and rub it in your chest, and don't move around" she sighs and hands you the ice bag while you stared at her
"What?!" she snarled
"I was hoping you would put the ice in my chest" you smiled and grab the ice bag and puts it in your chest
"Wow!" she laughed and continued "..you are doing this to get even with me right?"
"I don't know what you are talking about" you feigned ignorance as you smile sheepishly as you put the ice in your chest as the cold strangely warms you. With this world such as this. Is continuing to live like this is fine? you wish the boring days come back and replaced this rotten world. As your heart tightens and you cried silently from agony and despair
