Chapter Three

"Do you have everything packed?" Tara asks me as she shoves her last belongings into her suitcase. When we first got here, they took all of our electronics. They also told us to put our day-to-day clothes in our suitcases and to shove them into our closets. The only thing we practically needed was our pajamas and if we do go for a trip outside of our school, they allow us to wear our clothes, but that doesn't happen too often.

"Yeah, but all I'm missing is my phone, my laptop, and my speaker," When I heard that I was being sent to an all-girls school, I wasn't aware that we weren't allowed to have electronics. So yeah.

"I can't believe they got us early tickets. Like four in the morning tickets," She complains. "Like don't you guys own a private airplane or something?" She asks.

"They got us those tickets because it takes about 25 hours to get back to Australia," I told her.

"Damn," She says, already sounding exhausted. "I should be asking how you're doing. When you got handed those tickets, you stared at them for a while. What's going through that mind of yours?" She asks.

"I just haven't been to Tasmania since I was 12. I'm a little nervous. Although they did send me for a reason, I have no clue what that reason is," I say, still trying to figure that out. It couldn't have been just because I was a troublemaker. My subconscious states.

"So you're nervous?" She asks, sitting in front of me, legs crossed like me on my bed. "Cam- it'll be alright, I'm sure they missed you-" Before she could finish her sentence, I cut her off.

"That's the thing if they missed me if they thought of me-" tears form in the corners of my eyes. "They would have wanted me to come home sooner than the five years I've been here. When I was younger, my dad left for his job as a pilot, and my mom was a nurse. I was practically raised by the workers at our house," I wiped the tears before they fell down my cheeks. "If they missed me, they would have at least visited me, but they're not like that. They care about their jobs more than their own daughter," I say, letting my tears slip in front of Tara.

"Cam-" She starts while wiping my falling tears, but that doesn't help, my tears just keep falling. "They care about you, they do, they just have their own way of showing it," She says, bringing me into her arms. "You act so strongly like you're a superhero- and you are- but you can't keep all of your feelings hidden, you need to share them sometimes. That'll help you, I mean it helps me," She says, pushing my shoulders away while holding them and making eye contact with me. "I love you, and if they don't see the new Cambry, the smart Cambry, the caring Cambry that I see, then I'll allow you to scream at them. But just remember, I'm always here for you, whether it's for tea, just to hang out, help you with boy problems, or be your shoulder to cry on, I'll be there, okay?" She asks, I nod my head before wiping my eyes and hugging her tight.

"Thank you, Tar, I love you too," I say, meaning it. She's helped me since I got here and I helped her, and from that, we became great friends.

"I know you do," She says, making me smile at her cockiness. "Now let's not think about those depressing thoughts. Tell me, are there guys in Tasmania, and are they hot?" She asks me. I laughed at her, But before I could answer her, there was a knock on our door. I get out of my bed and open the door.

"Yes?" I ask Mr. Shayde.

"I was told to give you these by the Mistress," He says, handing me all of my gadgets and another box which I assume are Tara's.

"Thank you," I say before closing the door. "Here," I hand her the box that has her electronics in it.

"Oh my god. My babies," She says, hugging the box. When she takes her phone out of the box and turns it on, her reaction startles me. "HOLY SHIT," She screams as she quickly unlocks her phone. "I have so many notifications," She says.

"From who?" I ask, taking my phone out and turning it on.

"I have people from Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat," She says.

I look at my phone and there are a million messages from my best friend. Now I know I told you that I wasn't close to anyone except for that one boy, well guys, meet Leilani Hayden. She's known me since we were kids. My parents hated her parents but loved her. The same goes for her parents, they hate my parents but love me. I haven't talked to her since I told her my parents were sending me to this school. Now that I see all of her messages, she's actually been sending me everything that's been happening these last years that I've been here, I actually love her.

Before I could think of anything else, I clicked on her contact and pressed the green phone button.

"Hello?" She asks over the phone.

"I MISSED YOU," I screamed through the phone.

"You bitch. Why the fuck didn't you call me earlier, I haven't seen you in forever," She says, and yah, it has been forever.

"I know, but they didn't allow electronics here. I have some amazing news," I tell her. Before I could continue, she cut me off with a ridiculous assumption.

"You're pregnant?" She asks.

"What?" I ask, confused.

"You are aren't you, I've gotten so good at this guessing game, so who's the dad, and am I the godmother?" She asks.

"No, I'm not pregnant," I tell her.

"Well, then what's happening?" She asks.

"I'm visiting Tasmania for our school break," I informed her.

"I can't believe this, I've been waiting to see you again, you sound so different," She says, changing the subject. She would ask why I didn't visit earlier, but she knows my parents and she knows how they are.

"And I want you to meet my other best friend," I tell her.

"Her name?" She asks.

"Tara Maine," I tell her.

"I can't wait," She says, really not wanting to hang up. I mean, I'm surprised it's not too awkward, we haven't talked to each other in forever.

"I'll probably regret this, but how are mom and dad?" I ask.

"Our moms are doing okay, they still hate each other as much as possible, and our dads, well, they're still the same, protective, following the ladies," She tells me.

"Do you think your parents are going to be happy that I'm back?" I ask.

"Yes, you're their favorite, after me of course," She says and we start giggling.

"So any drama or boys?" I ask, you can't blame a girl for enjoying some tea.

"Hell yeah, you missed out on a lot, especially when I lost my virginity to Braden Thomas," She says.

"WHAT THE HELL," I scream, surprised. Braden Thomas aka one of the hottest guys in her school, he's a player, but I've heard he makes it worth your time, at least when I was in Middle School. "I can't believe this," I say.

"You missed out on a lot, babes," She says. "I really can't wait until you get here, we're going to have to catch up, I have so much to tell you," She says. "So what about you, any drama?" She asks.

"First off, this is an all-girls-school, so no guys around here sadly," Before I could continue, she stopped me.

"DID YOU TURN LES?" she yells, Tara starts laughing because she could hear that.

"No, I'm still straight, I was just telling you there wasn't any boy drama," I told her.

"Okay, continue," She says.

"Me and a few girls here became friends. When I got here, I found this treehouse, it's amazing," I told her. "Anyways, we sneak out once a week and smoke this joint in there. Oh, it's amaz-" She cuts me off with a scream.

"You what now?" She asks, surprised. "My girl sneaks out now? You used to just start shit on fire and play tricks on people, but now you are sneaking out and smoking some weed, you turned into a bad bitch," She says.

"Not that bad, and btw, I've grown up, I had to teach myself a different way to rebel, this school is like hell for girls," I tell her, she just giggles on the other side of the phone.

"I gotta go, Babes," She says and on the other side, I could hear her mom yelling at her to get off the phone and get ready for school," Yeah, different time zones suck.

"Okay, love you, don't do anything stupid," I tell her.

"Love you too, can't wait to see you," She says, making a kissing noise before hanging up.

"Interesting phone call?" Tara asks, now she's sitting in her bed while going through her phone.

"So how about you? Any boy drama I don't know about?" I ask.

"Actually, there is this cute boy, Parker. He and I have been friends since we were children, but since my parents sent me here, I haven't talked to him or seen him. I'm texting him now, he told me how much he misses me," She says, putting her phone down on the table and laying down on the bed.

"I'm sure you two would be cute together," I told her.

"You don't even know what he looks like," she says, turning her light off before laying her head on her pillow and facing me.

"But, you two still sound cute together, just take it as a compliment," I tell her before I put my phone down and turn off my light.

"Good night, Cam," She says, I can hear her sleepy voice, meaning she's already drifting off.

"Night, Tar," I tell her before rolling over and facing the wall, with thoughts entering my mind. Did my parents actually miss me? Have they thought of me? Do they love me? Do you think I could get a drink? Do you think I could find a joint? I started drifting off to sleep as my mind eased at the thought of seeing my best friend tomorrow for the first time in five years.
