Loss of...

What Robert is not telling Rosanne is something he doesn't want to admit-- It is very likely that he has trouble hearing now.  His hearing is not like what he used to have.

He can still hear Rosanne talking.  He can also hear when she is crying, breathing, and when her hands moving against his chest, rubbing him or her hands rubbing along the bed sheet.

But, his hearing is just not the same as before he was hurt.    Ever since he had ingested that magic snow in China--, he started to hear so many things, which has been why he could sense someone coming before other people could, because  he was able to hear sounds from far away.

After having this super hearing ability, in the first year, he was plagued by it.  For the first year, he couldn't sleep very well.  Coupled with ghosts who were living in his head and haven't been transformed to the bottle yet, he often heard too many people talking.
