Chapter 66

Chapter 66

Tang Yu was lying crumpled inside the shopping cart, letting the silver-haired girl "drive" it, racing down the slope.

Just as the slope began to flatten and he thought the wild ride was about to stop, he didn't expect the sweepers to chase after them in their car.

They fired several shots in Tang Yu's direction, one bullet skimming over the ground.

The silver-haired girl looked up at the approaching sweepers.

"Tsk."

"Looks like they're not so easy to shake off."

After saying that, she looked at Tang Yu inside the cart and smiled slightly.

"What now?"

"Shall we make a move?"

Seeing the silver-haired girl's teasing question, Tang Yu truly felt somewhat helpless.

He was carrying a Tadayoshi handgun tucked uncomfortably behind his waist.

He released his right hand, which had been tightly gripping the cart, and tried to pull the handgun from his lower back with some difficulty.

To avoid pressing on the gun, he had to make an effort to prop himself up but accidentally came too close to the silver-haired girl's face, almost hitting her chin.

Tang Yu finally managed to draw his Tadayoshi handgun from behind his waist.

But to aim and shoot at the sweepers, he would need to turn over.

From inside the cart, he couldn't see anything.

The silver-haired girl decisively freed up her left hand and grabbed Tang Yu's wrist, making room for him.

"Bend your legs."

"Turn over."

Tang Yu drew his legs in, and with her help, he managed to flip over in the shopping cart and crouch down.

The move was tricky, but they pulled it off smoothly thanks to their tacit understanding.

The silver-haired girl let go of the handrail completely with her other hand, and instead, both of her hands were placed on Tang Yu's shoulders.

She leaned in slightly, bringing her head close to Tang Yu's ear, her voice almost a whisper amidst the ethereal neon city haze, and lightly said,

"Mmh..."

"Let's see what you're really capable of."

Tang Yu struggled to ignore the tickling heat near his ear as he crouched and aimed his gun.

The sweepers were closing in with their vehicle, not particularly fierce in firepower but enough to ram into them any moment.

The shopping cart basket Tang Yu was in was definitely not as sturdy as the high-class bulletproof vehicles issued by the Arasaka Corporation.

In the back of the sweepers' modified pickup truck, several thugs brandished their knives, shouting incessantly.

"Damn it, stop the car, or else..."

Before the thug could finish speaking.

A bullet instantly exploded his tuft of hair, spraying his brains into a bloody pulp backward.

His limp body tumbled off the back of the truck and fell to the ground, to be crushed flat by the tire of a passing big rig, leaving a long smear of blood and flesh.

The remaining three thugs saw this and quickly crouched down, hiding behind the truck's cab.

"Shit, how is their aim so accurate?"

Meanwhile, the silver-haired girl burst out laughing as she saw Tang Yu take out an opponent with a single shot.

"Not bad at all."

"But we need to wrap this up fast."

"You don't want to end up soaked to the bone, do you?"

Reminded by the silver-haired girl, Tang Yu turned his head slightly, scanning the situation behind them with the corner of his eye.

He noticed the downhill path led straight to the coast's seawall—if the shopping cart kept gliding, it would crash into the seawall barrier and they would fly into the sea along with the cart.

The end was rapidly approaching.

Tang Yu quickly loaded tungsten bullets into his clip and aimed directly at the approaching pickup truck.

He pulled the trigger.

A surge of electromagnetic force gathered in the barrel, spinning and accelerating the tungsten bullet.

Bang!

The tungsten bullet, carrying tremendous force, slammed into the sweeper's pickup truck, piercing through the sturdy front armor and into the engine, causing a massive explosion.

Boom!

The entire pickup was engulfed in flames in an instant, and the vehicle flipped over from the bullet's impact, crashing on the roadside and bursting into fierce flames. The car was wrecked, and there were casualties. The silver-haired girl's pupils reflected the roaring flames—the trouble had been taken care of cleanly. She arched her back like a cat, retreating in a feline manner. She straightened her long left leg, stepping on the ground, while the other pushed against the shopping cart, her hands steadying the metal basket firmly. After skidding to a halt, the cart stopped at the edge of the seawall, her heel just touching the fence post. Due to the sudden stop, Tang Yu crouched with his gun, almost flipping backward, but a hand firmly pushed his back, preventing the accident of man and cart separation.

After steadying himself, Tang Yu immediately flipped out of the cart. Having just experienced a life-or-death speed chase, his heart was still pounding intensely. The silver-haired girl let go of the cart, retracting her long leg, left hand on her hip, right hand lifting to tidy the messy, stray strands of hair from her forehead, tucking them behind her ear.

"Ha, are you okay?" Her tone carried a hint of teasing.

Tang Yu moved next to the seawall railing, taking several deep breaths of air, finally calming down after the high-speed ride. If driven well, it's called a car chase; if not, it's like drifting in a hearse.

He turned to look at the silver-haired girl and noticed she wore a tracksuit, a purple hoodie with fluorescent yellow, the hem tight showing her slender waist. Tang Yu holstered his gun at the back of his waist and then said, "Your driving skills are indeed not bad, but don't do it again next time."

Lucy curled her lips, smiling. "Why?"

"Is that the attitude you show to your savior?"

Tang Yu, considering they didn't crash and had a safe landing, chose not to argue with her about these things. "Thank you very much then."

The silver-haired girl, picking up on his intent, clearly did not acknowledge any talk of saving her life and walked to the edge of the seawall, leaning against the rail with her elbows lightly resting on the crossbar. "I forgot."

"You don't really need saving."

"One call, and there would be a queue of people rushing to save you."

"Is that so, Mr. Tang Yu?"

Lucy's sudden change of attitude caught Tang Yu off guard, making him wonder if she might have a dual personality. The same girl who was so fiercely critic one moment took on an indifferent and prickly demeanor the next. Given this favor and the token of a simulated grey button, Tang Yu kept his temper in check and tried to communicate in a normal tone.

"Let's drop it."

"The purpose of a night run is to relax and unwind, not talk about work."

Tang Yu seemed to recall today's gossip at the office and added with self-mockery, "Imagine, a high-ranking company executive goes for a night run, only to be robbed by street thugs."

"Being cornered by a few thugs, having no other choice but to call for Arasaka's special forces for protection."

"If that got out, it certainly wouldn't be a proud moment."

"In the corporate world, you have to save some face."

Face?

The silver-haired girl turned toward Tang Yu, locking eyes for a moment. She thought about what he did that night by the seawall, but then she held back from speaking.

"Don't worry, your secret about being robbed by street thugs, I'll keep it confidential."

Tang Yu was speechless, thinking, have you forgotten what happened on the tram?

But the silver-haired girl didn't dwell on Tang Yu's thoughts and instead extended her left hand towards him for a handshake. "Let me reintroduce myself."

"My name's Lucy."

Seeing her serious demeanor, no longer with the teasing undertone of before, Tang Yu welcomed this rare normal conversation. And so, he stretched out his hand. And grasped it.

"Let me reintroduce myself."

"Vice director of two departments at Arasaka."

"My name is Tang Yu."

Lucy: "....."
