Chapter 49: Facing the Inferno

A sudden and searing pain stabs me through the back. I howl with rage as the flames dig into my skin, searing the muscles beneath. I kick and buck, throwing the thing off me. As it lands in the ruins before me, I see the black wolf and its silver eyes.
John.
‘RUN!’ I yell at Kait and Marcey. Kait grabs Marcey’s hands and they bolt onto the side street.
John’s eyes flick to them, daring to chase after them, but I growl, snapping my jaws and ensuring his full attention rests on me.
I can feel the blood pouring from my back, but I can’t show my weakness now. This is it. This is how it all ends. Right here and right now.
‘It doesn’t have to be like this!’ I tell him with my wolf mind.
He snaps his large fangs at me, ears pricked back with anger. ‘Oh, but it does, little brother. You knew this was coming, and there’s nothing you can do to stop this. Don’t forget, that pretty little piece you have there can see the future, right?
