“You know, what you said to me earlier, I’ve had some time to think about it,” I tell Jake, my voice barely a whisper.
He raises an eyebrow and leans forward in his seat. “You have? I mean, I don’t want you to feel pressured or anything. I know you’ve been through a lot, and this must be confusing for you. I can’t expect you to feel as I do. A shifter’s emotions can be very strong.”
I shake my head. “No, it’s not that. I don’t feel pressured. In fact, I think I’ve known all along. But I need to say something first. When I first met you, I was amazed and instantly drawn to you. You were like the only candle in a dark room. You lit up a room without even trying.
“But what happened with John…it shouldn’t have happened. While I know that he has strong feelings for me as well, I also know that his heart will forever remain cold. He’s been through hell, but he’s also embraced that side of himself.
