Chapter 30: Reunited but Separate

I was beginning to sympathize with John, to feel his pain about being forgotten, forced aside like second-rate trash. But after what he almost did to me, it’s hard to feel sorry for a monster.
Perhaps it really isn’t entirely his fault he turned out this way. His father and mother were taken from him far too soon. All his life, he’s really only ever had himself to rely on. He grew up in the darkness, and it’s all he’s ever known.
Whether or not he’s bonding with me, he’s willing to drag me into that same darkness, into a world where the idea of morality is a suggestion. Honor is unknown to him. His vision is clouded with revenge and lust.
This war may have started over revenge, but my being here has only stirred up something in the two Alphas that may have otherwise not even existed. I want to leave, to go home to Oklahoma, where the largest thing I had to worry about was what to wear to dinner.
