Chapter 17

While Regis and Avner had walked away, the three cadets returned to the same spot where they had blocked the way. Seeing that Regis had already walked away, they felt even more angry.

"Dammit."

'Bang!'

One of the cadets hit the wall of the hallway with all his might. The superhuman strength behind the punch was enough for any ordinary wall to have crumbled, but the walls remained sturdy and unharmed.

"Does that son of a b*tch not know the difference in stats between himself and someone who has been in the camp for four months now. We really need to show him his place." The second cadet spouted in anger.

"But before that, what do we do now? We borrowed this light and energy disruptor, but now someone has died and a similar disruptor was used to block surveillance. Not to mention that my family really needs to find the information about the battle." The third cadet said in a depressed tone.

Ever since the battle took place, everything was going downhill for them and their families that had nothing to do with the battle.

"Do you think that the ones who lent us this disruptor may be the ones behind the deaths?" The one who looked very depressed asked.

"No way. Not to mention that these Asceptus technologies can easily be smuggled into the camp if you have some contacts, the staff sergeants themselves are too powerful for them to deal with one, let alone two. I heard that many from powerful families use such devices which were acquired from Asceptus corpses because they are more advanced than human tech. I can bet that the kid from Kleeve Senatorial family also has one." The second cadet replied.

"Don't mention that b*tch before me. I will definitely teach him what the difference in stats means whenever I get the chance." The aggressive one out of the three said while staring at the spot where Regis had stood with bloodshot eyes.

"Yeah. That kid really needs to be taught a lesson." The remaining two cadets also nodded.

'Awakening usually occurs once all the stats or at least two of them have surpassed the absolute human limit of 5, awakening the genes of the mythical creatures in the body and unlocking the superhuman potential, this means that it will take me two months at most for awakening even if I consider that the stats grow increasingly harder to increase as they get higher.'

The Ageris den was the reason for his stellar speed, but upon thinking about it with a clear mind, Regis realized that the chances of the Ageris den leading back to Earth were next to impossible, but it definitely made him stronger, especially in the endurance part. There was also the fact that there may be an off chance that it actually did.

Once again, Regis found himself inside the cave with a small 'window', the only source of light. Already accustomed to the action, Regis started walking straight towards the source of light. With each step he took, Regis could feel a strange kind of pressure on all his muscles which increased as he walked further. It felt like something getting attached to his body with every step that he took forward.

'Just ten more steps and I will reach where I reached the last time. Just ten…nine…eight...'

Regis had already passed his highest distance at the ninth step to last, but he still motivated himself to break past his boundaries with a lie.

"Six.." Regis mumbled while the sweat accumulated on his forehead formed a stream that dripped from the tip of his nose and fell on the ground.

"Five…four…...threee…. huff…two….hu..ff….one....now for the progress….one…..two….thr…three.."

Stabilizing himself from almost tripping down to the ground, Regis took a series of deep breaths before lifting his left foot from the ground.

'Shit. It feels like a ton.'

There was no banging sound when the foot weighting 'a tonne' fell on the ground along with Regis who was now lying in a pool of his own sweat. Twisting his body to face upwards, Regis took a last look at the darkened ceiling of the cave that was only slightly visible due to the light from the distant door.

Regis felt like something was written there, but what exactly, he was unsure. After failing to identify the characters covered in shadows, Regis let out a deep breath and slowly closed his eyes. The ceiling began shining with a pale white light, but Regis was no longer on the floor to see it.

The piece of wall separated itself and flew near Regis, who extended his hand and pulled out a bottle from it. Regis unscrewed the cap and gulped the content of the bottle.

A cool feeling spread through his body and all the fatigue melted in an instant.

'Hahhh. This drink really deserves to be called magic water. I don't see the notification of and stat increase this time though. ......Did I jinx it?'

Regis put the bottle back into the piece of wall and tapped his holowatch. The piece flew back and merged into the wall. Regis also got up from the now inexistant pool of sweat and walked toward the door that led to the attached bathroom.

=============

Inside his office room, Major Arbrit Klesen was facing the holographic screen. The view from every other side was blocked, but if one looked from the position where Klesen was sitting, they could identify the man as the person who had unlocked the holowatch and given it to Klesen before the war of Camp Cerberus.

"The data obtained from the computers of the Asceptus has been of great help towards increasing the capacity of Gaia-Mil, but we haven't been able to find any critical information from those. The AIs from the two Rulers' computers have already erased most of the data before destroying themselves. Although that is already lost, Camp Cerberus has still made a significant contribution. By the way I heard that something has been going on over there. Are you sure that you can manage that while still in recovery phase." The man in the holographic screen asked.

As someone with the highest military rank in Camp Cerberus, it was entirely Klesen's authority to investigate and take measures for the incident. Even as a superior, the man did not try to interfere with Klesen's work.

"Yes sir. The investigation should bear fruits in the next few days. Although there have been some hinderances due to the compromise we had to make during the building of the camp for the sake of 'privacy', we are confident that this matter will be put to rest soon enough." Klesen replied without divulging too much information about the investigation.

His message meant that he was confident about the success of the investigation and that he did not require help for the time being.

"Then we will leave it to you."

"Yes sir."

"I will be waiting for the reports."

With the parting words from the man, the holographic screen turned off. Klesen tapped on his holowatch and skimmed through the reports made by the ten captains. Only Captain Olewer was responsible to hold the investigation while the others just supported with the investigation while maintaining their stations.

Klesen skimmed through the reports before switching on his holoPC. Entering the activation key, he imported all the filtered surveillance recordings of Camp Cerberus.

His personal AI recorded all the important interactions that had taken place under surveillance and also marking the instances when the surveillances were blocked using Asceptus technology and the individuals who were in possession of these Asceptus technologies.

'If only those corrupted officials had not stopped from getting the entire camp under surveillance. We would already have found out the culprit the very next day.' A cigarette flew up to Klesen's mouth and lighted up by itself. Klesen took a deep puff before exhaling.

All the smoke wrapped into a spherical ball and moved outside the room as Major Klesen got up from his chair and walked outside.
