Chapter Fifty-Four

"He's a thief?" Kate's voice took on a higher pitch, she knew there was something about him that rubbed Hekate the wrong way, but she hadn't thought it would be such a big thing. "Who did he steal from? What did he steal?"

"You know he and Hades don't get along right?" the Maiden asked.

"Well yeah, that's why he couldn't take the river with me in the Underworld," Kate said.

"That is because he stole a precious gem from his father," the Mother said. Kate stayed quiet, she hadn't quite expected that.

"It was not an ordinary gem," the Crone's frail voice piped up, "This gem held a rare magick to match its rarity."

"What magick? What does it do?" Kate asked.

The Maiden went and looked over the railing of the deck at the clear ocean in front of them, "It was called painite, and it held the power to allow anyone to leave the Underworld at any level of it."

"Any level? Even Tartaus?" Kate had a feeling she knew where this was going.
