New Face?

Amira, with her best friend Julia Waheed, walk down the school halls for yet another weekly meeting for their school. Since Amira was promoted to become a member of the school council, Julia hopped along to get promoted with her. They were headed to the media center where the president, vice president, and other members of the student union were waiting for more members to attend.

Once Amira and Julia got to the meeting, they were exactly 5 minutes early and as expected, there were still some missing members. Amira found a seat and took out her report for the video they were shooting about school violence and to promoting the anti-bullying theme.

For this topic Amira and Julia teamed up for the report since they were especially passionate about preventing bullying. They themselves were bullied since they were young before they meet each other in 7th grade.

Julia and Amira had newly transferred schools when they met as desk mates in school and eventually began hanging out because of their similarities in culture, language, and religion. They were both Arabian from Palestine, spoke Arabic, and were both Muslims who wore the special headscarf. Both their uniqueness got them closer for a friendship of 4 years now that they were 11th graders.

Now that the meeting was about to start, the president walked up to microphone to give the opening statement and any new announcements given to report to the council.

"I call this meeting at 11:20 a.m. on September 15, 20XX. Today for our agenda, we will first introduce the new member of the student union, then we'll discuss our proposals and reports for the video we will be shooting later. Any new announcements or objections anyone wants to add?" the president asks to the members.

No one answered after a slight pause so the President continued her speech and went on to introduce the new member.

"Ok, since no objections are heard, we will introduce the new member. Come on in.." she says.

A tall figure then walks onto the step podium and walks up to the president. With his overwhelming height, his presence and stance was made clear. Many girls began cooing and gawking at the man.

However opposite of all the reactions, was a stunned Amira with Julia just as shocked next to her.

"Is-isn't that him? Ahmed Salam from 7th grade?!" Julia exclaims in a barely audible whisper.

"I think it is Julia..." Amira was still wide-eyed remembering that she hadn't told her best friend about what happened over the weekend.

"Hello to all my new fellow council members, I am Ahmed Salam and I have transferred to East Bridge High as a 11th grader as of today. I am also a new member of the student union. I look forward to being guided by all of you..."
