Chapter 25: Mission (3)

"Did it get dark earlier today?"

Heimrich, one of the two gate guards at the Roseberg estate, yawned as he looked at his partner Carson. It had gotten dark a little earlier than it should have today. I guess they were in the transition of the seasons.

Carson continued to hold his spear without saying anything.

"No need to be so lifeless Carson, did you have a fight with your wife? How many times do I have to tell you! There's no way you're going to win a war with your wife."

Carson ignored Heimrich's remarks.

"I want to eat inside today. Will you join me?"

The guards had the right to eat inside.

"Leave it. Master Roseberg is angry enough. He's unpredictable, so I don't know when he's going to hit us over the head. If we catch him at a bad time, we'll never see the sun. You know that, Carson."

There was no one who lived in Roseberg Manor who was not afraid of Draegan. That's why there was an unwritten rule: If you love your life, don't enter the manor.

"I don't think Helga will feed me."

"You must have done something terrible."

"Not really, a storm in a teakettle. She exaggerates."

"I understand you..."

Heimrich's face fell as he remembered the imposing monster in the house. He had never won a fight with his wife.

"It's almost the end of the shift."

"I feel like it'll never end."

After some time, two men yawning appeared at the entrance to the street. One was short, the other a little taller. They had spears in their hands.

"Guys, where have you been? We're sick of waiting."

"Don't joke, Heimrich, fuck off."

"Well done, gentlemen. We'll take over."

Heimrich shrugged and looked at Carson. But Carson was not where he had been standing. He turned his head and saw him enter through the iron gates. He sighed, this man was acting very strangely today.

When Carson entered the courtyard of the manor, he looked around and saw that there were a large number of guards even in the courtyard. The power level of the guards varied greatly. There were warriors who had reached level four and others who had reached level five.

But for one of the most important politicians in the country, this was normal.

After memorizing the position of the guards, Carson made his way to the cafeteria. He showed his ID to the two guards waiting at the door of the mansion and entered. As a guard, he was authorized to enter the mansion.

Of course, he could only enter a few places.

The most important of these was the cafeteria. It was the perfect place to gather information as it was directly accessible to everyone.

Carson saw several sixth-level guards eating in the cafeteria. Judging by the crest on their collars, they were knights of the Order of the Knight of Aldmoor. This meant that they were close bodyguards.

After Carson had his meal, he sat down at a nearby table and listened to the conversation.

"Don't boast. You still have a long way to go."

"What? Isn't that enough?"

"What are you talking about? You fought the last three without Qi."

"But suddenly they attacked with a knife and we reacted with instinct... We were also out of Qi. Compared to the attack on the terrace last time, I think we were more successful."

"Does it make sense to use Qi and run out of Qi? You use it like shit! Besides, we have no other mission than to protect Master Roseberg. What would have happened to us if the attack on the terrace had succeeded? Do you realize the seriousness of the situation?"

"Agh... I guess you're right."

"Anyway, you need more experience."

The four knights who had reached level six were a force to be reckoned with in Elysium. They were a force to be reckoned with in many kingdoms. But even protecting a Chancellor was difficult for them.

Eight knights were on duty, split into two shifts, just for this. While Carson hadn't learned Draegan Roseberg's schedule, he had some information. After that, it was only a matter of time and opportunity.

The knights left after their meal and a few unimportant servants entered the cafeteria. Carson listened to them talking to each other and then left. He didn't want to attract more attention than necessary.

The enemy was very cautious because of the events. Not only the mansion but also the strategic points in the surrounding area were guarded by sentries. So he had to make a lot of effort to get to a point where he could have a full view of the mansion.

Carson left the mansion and continued to watch from two miles away. By the time the moon rose, the city was plunged into darkness. The sentries guarding the manor had become even more vigilant because of it. It was currently impossible for a master to infiltrate the manor, no matter what the level of secrecy.

"They take it very seriously."

Carson sat cross-legged on the floor and continued to watch the mansion. Hours passed, but nothing changed. Even good assassins would have given up, but Carson remained motionless. From his knowledge of Draegan, he could guess his personality.

He was almost certain that he would have a small deficit.

Unfortunately, nothing changed that night. Carson went to the mansion for the start of his shift and started his work. When his shift was over, he went to the cafeteria and again tried to get information from people. But it was not very successful because the language of the personnels was very tight.

And so the days followed one after another.

The fact that nothing had changed for four days was a big problem. Because Carson hadn't been home for a long time and soon they would start looking for him. When that happened, he would be in trouble with the police force and the mansion.

On the evening of the fifth day, Carson was in his usual place. He watched the mansion without blinking an eye. There was a guest entering the mansion today. Moreover, it was a concubine queen from Sky Blue Mansion. It was not difficult to understand what she had come for.

Draegan Roseberg was devoted to the noble life. He liked to drink wine and attend orgies. He hadn't left the manor for a long time, so he must have reached his limits. It was normal for him to be with a prostitute.

As Carson ate the sandwich he had prepared earlier, he looked out onto the terrace on the second floor. The terrace was quite large, guarded by two sentries on the fourth level. There was also a squad guarding the garden below the terrace.

This must have been the terrace mentioned in the cafeteria.

It connected directly to Draegan Roseberg's room. It was the perfect way to attack. But precautions were taken.

Time has passed.

Carson finished his sandwich and buried his trash in the ground. At that moment the terrace lights came on and a pot-bellied man in a red bathrobe came out. He was holding a glass of red wine. He had medium-length blond hair and sideburns that reached his chin.

The man came to the edge of the terrace and put his arm out. As he did so, a beautiful woman in a bathrobe came up behind him. She hugged him from behind and the two of them started making love on the terrace.

Carson looked at them expressionlessly and then began to prepare. The wind was not strong, he had to calculate the wind as the distance was about two miles.

Without taking his eyes off the couple on the terrace, Carson pulled out a bow and an arrow. At the same time, his face began to unravel, revealing his true face. There was no trace of concern on his white face. Alexander had mastered all weapons, though archery was not his specialty.

The only thing preventing him from becoming a Shadow Priest was his level of development.

Among the trainees, there was only one who specialized in archery. He was able to shoot a squirrel from three miles away.

Alexander placed the Systematic Armor Piercer, a special type of arrow, on the bowstring and raised the bow at a seventy-degree angle. There was no way he could kill a level five two miles away. At least that was with a straight shot.

So he had to shoot with momentum, high and piercing.

He poured all the Shadow Energy in his body into the arrow and held his breath.

The moment he released the arrow, it became one with darkness.

Alexander packed his things and left.
