Promises?

Why the hell didn't I thought it through? That Sam and his gang might still have to arrive. And the worst thing that there was no place where I could possibly hide. So not having any better option I passed through the gate while chanting in my breath that I'm such a dumbass.

Elias Brown was standing beside a motorcycle and was slipping his hand through his black leather jacket. Well... this is a news. Elias Brown, driving motorcycle with black leather jacket and black pant. He was giving off a bad boy vibe.

Looking at his outfit I got aware of my own outfit. I was wearing a yellow top with light blue jeans, the flared sleeves of my top flowing till my elbow.

His back was facing me, so he didn't saw my arrival. I swept my gaze around the place; the place was like a small open parking lot. There were no vehicles parked except Elias's motorcycle.

I stood there, acting casual and natural. But my heart wasn't listening to me it was beating wildly against my chest. Which made me feel like I had already been caught by him before even coming to him.

"Hey Elias!"

Why did my voice come out sweeter than I intended?

He jerked his head behind his shoulder due to unexpected voice, his gaze snapping towards me. His hazel eyes almost making me forgot the reason I was here for. The green in his eyes appearing brighter due to the surrounding greenery and the little golden surfacing in his eyes almost drowning me in.

He quickly snapped his head back, took his gloves and then fully turned towards me.

"What made you come here?" he asked busing himself wearing his fingerless gloves. Am I supposed to ignore the fact that he is looking so freaking badass?

What made me come here?

WHAT MADE ME COME HERE?

Well, I was planning to eavesdrop on you when you would be having a conversation with them. You know, them. But my plan was destroyed, and I ended up coming to you earlier then them.

Well, Hilarious.

I opened my mouth to say something, but my mind went blank.

Oh, how wonderful! Thank you for backing out when I needed you.

Then suddenly I know what I need to say. If he is going to skip all the formalities, then fine, even I will not beat around the bush.

"Why did you ask me to keep it a secret from my friends?" I asked him genuinely curious.

"Not to alert the whole school" he stated while fixing the strap of his gloves.

"They don't gossip!" I said in defensive tone.

"You can't say that for sure" he retorted.

"Whatever" I said dismissing the matter. "What I mainly want to say to you is that I didn't made a promise to you about not telling it to my friends. I cannot keep anything secret from my friends. And they can keep a secret, secret. Actually, I'm not here to seek your approval but, I just wanted to inform you that I am not breaking any promise here by telling them" I said and dramatically made my way out of that place without waiting for his response.

The actual reason why I didn't wait for his response was because I felt like Sam and his friends were almost near to exit from the gate. They would be here any second so, I quickly cross the small parking lot and hid behind a Wall to eavesdrop on them. And I have no idea where the road in front of me leads to.

Soon after I heard a shuffling of the footsteps. Well... now I can only imagine their actions by listening.

"Took you guys long enough" Elias stated in stern voice. I got a feeling that he said it while still wrapping his gloves around his hand without bothering to look at them. And... come on, it's not even been 5 minutes.

"Didn't wanted to be followed" Brian said nonchalantly, keeping their excuse short.

"Well then" Elias said his tone slightly mocking "Now. You can explain" he said slowly in a threatening tone.

There was silence—

And suddenly I was able to hear the ticking of my wristwatch. It felt like it was ticking off the time until the hell would break lose. I felt an urge to peek at them to look at their reactions. But I stopped myself from doing so.

"We weren't exactly bullying him" It was Brian who spoke up again. I guess everyone else were tongue tight.

"Oh, you weren't?" Elias's voice came out in mock amusement.

"We didn't hurt him"

"We didn't plan on bullying him"

Sam and Liam said simultaneously in rushed defensive tone.

"It--- his fault------ too arrog--" Anna muttered something and only bits of it I was able to hear. But it was enough to tick Elias off.

"Shut up" Elias snapped. Which was harsh enough to shut up everyone. It even caused my heart to beat faster.

I wasn't much far from them. They would just need to take a few steps and they would reach towards me.

"I said to you guys to explain, not to give excuses! Just how many times is it?" Elias said in low dangerous voice. "Did you guys forgot the promise you made?"

"Did we? Or did you?" Anna sneered.

"Didn't you promise to never fight back when we humiliate you? Then why did you do it that day?" Brian retorted glaring at Elias.

Is that why he never fights back? Noah was right! He always questioned why Elias doesn't fight back when he is capable of it. I guess, we know the answer now. But... what is going on with all these promises?

"Are you sure you're regarding it right?" Elias stated calmly. "As long as I know I don't remember fighting back instead I just stated the fact"

Are they talking about when Sam said that Elias would look good in cheerleading uniform and Elias said that at least he would look good in it unlike someone?

I slowly peeked not being able to control myself.

"And you don't have the rights to say" Elias took a threatening step forward towards them. "When you guys have already broke the promise way too many times. And... Did I. Ever. Fought back?" he said, his voice eerily calm.

Silence---

They didn't dare to move. He rendered them speechless.

After what felt like hours Brian opened his mouth to speak. Well, accurately it might have been 2 minutes, but it definitely felt like hours. And guess what? he didn't have enough courage to speak up because he closed his mouth back. Then they whispered something with each other, to which Sam gave a small nod.

"We want to put an end to it!" Anna said firmly taking a step forward to emphasize her point.

"It's no more fun teasing you!" Sam said casually.

"Yes! We are done with this bullshit!" Brian joined in holding his ground. "There won't be any more f*cking promises. And you are not allowed to stop us anymore from bullying anybody"

What the...! How could he normally speak about bullying people like it's his responsibility or something. And Sam... what the hell does he mean by saying it. It's getting more and more absurd.

"Do you all even realize what you all are saying?" Elias said giving them an incredulous look. "You will be the one to lose" he said his voice laced with threat. "And don't forget to warn your minions to stay out of my way then. I'm not going to tolerate them any longer" he retorted and turned towards his motorcycle to mount on it. In other words, turn towards the side where I have been peeking.

My heart leapt into my chest.

In one swift move I took cover behind the wall again before he could fully turn with my heart beating wildly against my chest for almost getting caught.

Without wasting any second, I started running having no idea where the roads lead to. After I was sure that I have put quite some distance between me, and my school I slowed down.

I removed my cell phone and checked my location in it. I guess I got lucky because I'm near the frontside of our school. I let out a sigh of relief. I enter the school and went to the parking lot.

Well, well, I am getting more and more lucky by the time, am I not? Ugh... note my sarcasm. There standing next to my car is nobody else than the people who I have been trying so hard to avoid. To be exact they are standing next the car which is next to mine.

It's fine. I have managed to avoid them so far, so I'll managed it even now after all they are way too immersed in talking to notice anyone around them.

I quickly made my way towards my car, not letting my gaze to wander near them. I opened my car door and before I could get inside it, I glanced towards their direction subconsciously. My gaze instantly connecting with Sam's. I couldn't avert my eyes.

I gave him a look which showed how much I'm disappointed in him. His soft gaze turned distant. Making me feel like I'm looking at a stranger. I averted my eyes and was about to get inside my car.

"Hey Mary!" a sharp voice which belonged to Anna called out. I cursed under my breath at myself for lingering here.

I turned towards her slowly, taking my sweet time and all of their attention were already on me. But I focused my attention only on Anna.

"What's the matter, Anna?" I said putting on my best fake smile, which nobody can see through. But one look at her grumpy face was enough to falter my smile.

"You are an 'A' student, right?" she said in a way like being an 'A' student was a disgusting thing.

"I wouldn't exactly say that. I'm not a straight 'A' student. My grades usually fluctuate. Why are you asking it, BTW?" I said letting a small smile on my face.

Well it's me, I cannot help but smile at anybody . Because if I don't smile, it make me feel like I'm being rude. To be exact it's just a reflex.

"We need someone with good grade to tutor us" she said still holding herself up with arrogance.

I scoff internally. Does she not know that acting arrogant will not take her anywhere? Or... are they trying to overpower me? After all they had broken their promise with Elias, and nothing is stopping them from bullying anybody.

"Well... then, why don't you find someone with good grade to tutor you guys" I said with a cruel smile. You want me to tutor you guys? Over my dead body. Did they forget what they did to me today? Even though it was Brian who is solely to be blamed but they were there standing together with him.

I turn towards my car ready to get in but was stopped again.

"Mary, wait!" this time it was a soft voice that called me. "Mary, ignore her behavior she's always like that. We really need you to tutor us" Hailey said pleadingly.

Her words almost made me give in. keyword being 'almost'. Off course, I'm not going to tutor them.

"Hailey" I whined. "I can't tutor all of you" I swept my gaze at everybody with a cautious eye. "And which subject do you need tutoring exactly?" I asked cautiously, expecting for the worst.

"Umm... literature..." she trailed off.

"Huh? Literature?" I asked stretching every syllable longer than necessary in puzzlement while cutting her off.

If she wants me to tutor even the easiest subject, then I don't know what to expect. Or are they just trying to mess with me.

".... Math... physics... uh huh, chemistry... and French" she said awkwardly fumbling with her words and with each words she said my jaw dropped lower and lower.

"Hailey..." I trailed off shaking my head violently with a raised hand. My reaction saying it all that I can no longer bear with this absurd.

"I could have possibly agreed to tutor you alone but I cannot tutor these.... (untamed beasts)" I trailed off and gave an awkward laugh. and off course I didn't said the last part out loud. Well, if I was planning to make some enemy of myself and was not planning to return home with all my limbs intact then I would have.

Before I could listen to any of their response or see their reactions I dashed in my car and drove off.

So much for avoiding them. I gave a long sigh.
