A new Beginning

Everyone was geared up and ready to go. The Elder was kind enough to let the team stock up on neccessary healing potions and things like that from his personal stock. When I grabbed one I could feel the power from within the glass vial.

"Be careful with that now boy, that vial holds enough for to treatments. It's hard to get the right amount of ingredients to stay viable for long periouds of time. If you break that I'm gonna have to charge you, and right now you'll be in the whole for damn near your whole life just for one bottle. hahaha"

I looked back at the bottle in my hands with a wide open mouth.

*Does this mean this single bottle costs more than my whole life? Just what kind of magical shit goes into making something like this.*

I gently put the bottle back down and slowly stepped away and let the other more experienced members pack the neccessities. I saw boxes of red glowing ammo being loaded up of different calibers. Some were aslong as my index finger and others were as small as half my pinky. I'm assuming sniper rounds and pistol rounds but I wasn't really savvy with all of that.

"So boy, what's your weapon of choice? I'm sure back in the human world you imagined yourself as some kind of warrior right?"

I looked confused for a few seconds before thinking back to my childhood. I always would swing around a big stick whenever I would find them like I was some kind of barbarian, but at other times I would imagine myself as an all powerful sorcerer who summoned legions of creatures to do my bidding while I obliterated the battlefield from afar.

"ehhh, I don't really know. When I was younger I would swing around big stick bu-"

"AHAH a freaking greatsword user, I love it. Here try this on for size, right now it might be a bit unwieldy but soon you'll be strong enough to hold it."

The Elder than handed me a black metal sword that was slim near the handle but widened out towards the tip where it then arched out in either direction to form a sickle like pattern on both sides.

I grabbed it and almost instantly I felt like a desire to fight was welling up inside of me.

"That my boy is called the Berzerk blade. It grants a huge boost to attack and at the same time it increases attack for every 10 hp you lose."

"Huh? Why are you talking about HP?"

"Oh that's right your new to this world.... Well, don't worry about it right now, you'll find out when we enter the Tear."

I looked at The Elder confused as he proceeded to walk away covered in some kind of scaled armor. I follow him while about to ask more questions but he is already leaving the mansion and entering into a huge black SUV. He rolls down the window and shouts at me.

"PUT THE WEAPON IN THE BACK AND HOP IN, IT'S TIME TO HEAD OUT!"

I tried to get in the van with the rest of the group but was stopped by Genevieve who was dressed up in a sleek form fitting fur lined outfit. It was cut off midriff to show off her slightly tanned skin. Her top was sleeveless to allow full range of motion and her legs were covered with a set of pale colored metal shin guards with spikes jutting out. She had a 2 pairs of daggers, one on each hip with a different colored jewel decorating the hilt.

I looked at her in confusion as I wasn't expecting her to join us.

"Elder has requested that I guard you, I am confident in my Arcane Assassin skills that I can protect you from all dangers. Now if you'll follow me, Elder wants to speak to you some more during the trip to the Tear."

I was just baffled but nonetheless followed her and got in the SUV with her at my side and the Elder across from me in a reverse styled seat. The vehicle was bigger on the inside and easily allowed a group of 10 to fit comfortably.

"How do you like my ride? I had to make a deal with that neighboring witch Juniper but in exchange she enchanted the car for me. It comes in handy for when I travel with people..... Mostly late nights, if you catch my drift little pup." He winked at me as he used air quotes to say late nights. This dude was so totally using his title to get laid.

During the trip we talked mostly just about how my life was like back in the human world. I told him that I was mostly just lazing around while hanging out with my best friend, but then I got sad when I remembered that I was never going to see him again. With all the excitement I never really had time to sit down and process through what all happened.

"Hey, don't space out on me now. Once we enter that Tear shit gets real. You can be all depressed afterwards when you're back in your room."

"He's right Master Alaric, the Tears are very dangerous places that can kill with just a single mistake. You need to prepare yourself mentally for the dangers ahead."

I could only nod as I stayed silent and looked out the window. I needed answers for this, Why was I made into a Werewolf? Why were my parents and my best friend killed? I wanted to know but with the power dynamic of this world being so in favor of the strong.... I knew the only way I was going to get them was if I surpassed everybody and forced them to tell me.

We rode in silence for a few more minutes until eventually we arrived at the Midnight Shifters base. We all hopped out as Barton met us fully equipped in battle gear like the day I met him.

"Have a nice time with Genevieve did ya Ric? You should feel special, I've wanted a piece for many a year and still to this day I get turned down."

"Because you are a barbarian, and an asshole. I much prefer the younger boys anyways." Then she leans into my ear and whispers. "Girls to if you want."

POOF steam escapes from my ears as I get over heated hearing that.

"Stop teasing the boy Genevieve, I'm sure you'll have your chance when he gets better situated in his new world. Just do your job."

"Yes Elder." She then bows and backs away to the car to unload.

"Barton my boy, how's your dad doing?"

"Good sir, he sends his regards and his apology that he cannot be here to accompany you."

"Ah bullshit, that old coot has seen more bloodshed and monster cock than the king, I fully understand his hesitation, Tell him I have something for him that I've been working on that'll help him with the pain."

"Understood Elder, Do you want me to let him know before we leave or after we come back?"

"Go do it now, I have it with me so he can just come out and get it."

"Got it one second." Then Barton rushes back into the house and a 10 minutes later out comes Barton with a old haggard looking old man that needed a cane to walk along with assistance from Barton.

"Harmon how nice to see you again after so many years." Says the old man with a gravelly voice.

"Oh stow it ya old bag of bones. I finally finished making that potion we agreed on. It should help you regenerate again, and remove that fucking curse you agreed to so long ago."

"It was a noble sacrifice you dick.... But thank you for bringing it to me, you're a good friend."

The old man and the Elder walked back to the vehicle together while Barton stayed behind and filled us in on the Tear.

"The analysis of the Tear is that it is a D level Tear-"

"Don't you mean D Tier Tear. heheheh" Bryan interuppted and said while laughing

"Hey dipshit, I hate that that is how they classify this shit. So no it's not D Tier, it's D Level, got it? Or do you need to go solo again?"

"Fuck you." Byan said but that was it as he stayed silent.

Barton smiled and continued. "Good, now as I said it's a low level Tear, Ric you should be fine aslong as you stay near the back lines and the rest of us will handle any big threats. Remember everyone Just because it's classified D, does not mean that B or higher monsters won't rip through and appear. We need to be on our toes inside and make sure newbie hear comes back stronger."

"YES SIR!" The group yells just as the Elder comes back with a man that looks like a slightly younger version of the Old man, except this time there was no cane and the man was walking straight and with an air of authority and nobility.

Gasp! "Father! You look younger, Did the potion really heal you? Is the Curse lifted? Are you retaking control over the Guild?"

"HAHAHA, no son you still are the commander of the Midnight Shifters, the curse is still very much active inside of me but thanks to Harmon, I mean the Elder, I am able to regnerate like normal.... Atleast for a few months so he says."

"Yea, again I'm sorry old friend. I tried my hardest to create the potion just like that witch said, but it looks like that curse is stronger than we anticipated, I'll go back after this clear and reevaluate the recipe and see if I can tweak it for a better outcome."

"It's fine Harmon, I can live like this just as easily as before. I will send you some money to pay for this as soon as the young ones return. For now I need to go see how rusty I have gotten."

"Barton, Bryan, take good care of the newbie here, I can sense great potential... Even if he does smell a bit funny."

"Yes Father!" The son's reply before he turns around and heads back inside.

"Now that that is finished what ya say to hurrying up and getting inside that sweet, sweet Tear."

We all get a chuckle out of the Elder and soon we were off and hiking a few miles behind the Base. I was told that normally Tears only appear in wildlands, Some do appear nearby guild houses that reside outside the walls but they are few and far between and usually they are tougher monsters. But since the analysis determined that it was D level, Barton said it was ok for me to join.

After we hiked for awhile, we finally came upon a clearing with a small point in the air. It was weird to look at and even harder to describe. Imagine a small point about 5 feet about ground, the air all around it seeming to be sucked inside but there is no wind blowing. Some times it would look like Heat waves from a desert mirage, and others it would almost be like a slice through the air itself. It undulated and pulsed like it was living and breathing. All around weird to look at.

"Alright boys and girls, formations and get ready to set out. I want a full clear and a full return. Loot is distributed by contribution same as always. Newbie you'll get your chance to contribute at some point but no heroics on your first outing. Now move out!"

Alpha team moved in first and I went with them. They were the Scout/Vanguard that would set up a defensive area for the rest to move out of. It was our job to make sure the others could enter safely, and if the Tear was to Dangerous... To warn the others and make sure they stayed out to further lower casualties.

I stepped up to the Tear and as if sensing my presence the Tear started wobbling before slowly expanding to reveal a whole new world in front of me. It revealed a landscape covered in flatlands with vibrant grass and small trees covered in colorful leaves. I saw small flatland creatures that looked similar to rabbits but other than that it looked peaceful.

"In ya go Newbie." Bryan said as he pushed me gently.

I stepped forward and it felt like the Tear seemed to suck me in and I passed through a space that was blinding, I had to close my eyes but seconds later I felt firm ground beneath my feet again. I opened my eyes and looked around and felt the wind blowing over my body. I could smell animals nearby and the I could sense things were watching me. All the same I felt at peace.... Until I was startled by loud trumpet blowing in my ear.
