Chapter 62

When Ted came looking for Chris an hour later, he was smiling and said, “She wants to talk to you now.”

Chris entered Lydia’s office, settled down in a side chair, and looked expectantly at her.

“Ted’s in very good shape, despite the ordeal,” she said.

“That’s good to know. Will he have any repercussions from today, do you think? I’m worried about a recurrence of the nightmares he used to have.”

“I don’t believe there will be anything like that. I gave him a posthypnotic suggestion that should help him deal with it.”

“Was it just me, or were those defense attorneys just going through the motions? They all looked like they’d rather be doing something else.”

“I agree. From what the prosecutor told me privately, the publicity surrounding the case has prompted other victims to come forward. Those attorneys are painfully aware that they’re dealing with a lost cause.”

“When these men are convicted, would it do Ted any good to be there when they’re sentenced?” Chris said.
