Chapter 50
“Because your mind’s on cooking?”
“Could be.”
“What will the kids be drinking?”
“Give them water glasses like everyone else. We’ll offer them Coke or Sprite.”
“Gotcha.”
Ted had returned to the kitchen while Chris and Mickey were talking and began to assemble his ingredients and cooking utensils.
“Need any help, Ted?” Chris said.
“No, Sir. I can do this.”
“Okay. I’m here in case you need me.”
Ted was concentrating on a recipe and didn’t answer, so Chris left him to his own devices. An hour later, the kitchen was full of delicious smells, and Chris was about ready to go shower and change.
“I’m going to go upstairs and shower, Ted. Is there anything you need before I come back?”
“No, Sir. Everything’s okay.”
“Then I’ll leave you to it. If the pot I have on the back burner starts to boil over, turn it down a notch, okay?”
“Yes, Sir.”
Chris removed his apron and headed upstairs to the master bathroom, from which Mickey was just emerging.
