Chapter 27: Plan in the Making

Leila collapses to the bed in relief.

After the incident with the masquerade, Ryu shoved her through a portal and found herself in another home of his. This one seemed a bit more personal though. It was pristine clean, covered in red furniture throughout the spacious room. She figured this was his main home.

She exhales shakily.

Ryu had nearly bled her dry trying to coax whatever power from her that he could. Still, it refused to heed his call when he attempted to summon it.

He growls, anger clearly evident in his tense features. He snatches Leila by the wrist and yanks her to him, rage fueling those ruby eyes. He utters in frustration, “What did you do?”

She gives a small shake of her head and answers, fatigued with the night’s events, “I don’t know.”

He rattles her, but this does little to change her stance on the matter. She had no idea what had happened, but a small inkling dripped through her mind that she wouldn’t dare utter out loud to the power-hungry man before her.
