Chapter 16: Broken Trust

The next day Leila wakes to sunlight beaming into her eyes.

She scowls and buries herself further under the blankets, not wanting to get out of bed. A voice states calmly, “You have to wake up, Leila.”

She protests with a small whine and pulling the covers further up. A sigh escapes his body, and she feels the blankets ripped from her frame. Leila casts a glare at Ezra and remarks, “Shouldn’t you be in bed?”

He responds with a shrug, “I’ve been functioning on a human schedule for two decades now.”

At the comment, she sits up instantly and asks with suspicion, “What’s that mean?”

He sits down beside her and replies, ignoring her initial question, “We need to talk.”

She nods in understanding. “What about?”

“It’s time you learn what you really are.”

Leila frowns and questions, “You mean a weapon? Mr. Platinum enjoys calling me that.”

“So then you know?”
