"Kai, tomorrow you'll have to go through the black ocean test…"

Everyone's skin paled in fear after listening to Kim's statement. 

Nora, Mark, and Martha all glimpsed at Kai hoping to see some kind of reaction coming from him, but unfortunately for them, all they were met with was the usual expressionless face Kai makes whenever he's serious or deep into his thoughts. 

It wasn't that Kai wasn't afraid, after all, he knew how terrifying the black ocean is and how many test subjects of his father have fallen into madness and even death because of this one experiment. 

But the reason behind his cold expression and why he hasn't said anything was the fact that he knew that whenever his dad makes a decision, there's no going back on it. So why bother being so stressed and afraid and waste his energy if he already knows it won't change a thing? 

Biting her lips so hard to the point it started bleeding, Martha looked at her child helplessly unable to save him from what he was about to experience. 

Though Kai, Mark and Nora are not her real children, Martha was still the one who raised them for the most part and her connection and love for them was of no difference than a real mother. 

Even Nora glanced at Kai with a look of pity painting her face, she knew what the black ocean test was and how frightening it is, and how couldn't she know when she was one of those who experienced it? 

The only person who seemed to be happy after hearing the news was, obviously Mark, as soon as he heard his father's words his heart bounced and the adrenaline started flowing through his body as a grin stretching from one ear to the other formed on his face. 

With that big smile covering his face, he turned his head towards Kai hoping to see him shivering in fear, but his wishes were dismissed as all he could see on Kai's face was absolute indifference. 

In less than a second, the smile on Mark's face disappeared like it was never there, instead, it was replaced with an expression of hate and anger and a big frown distorting his face. 

"Thanks for the food, I'm done..." 

Pushing his seat backwards, Mark tried to act calm as he got up and rushed out of the room, Martha and Nora soon followed him as they couldn't maintain eye contact with Kai knowing what he was about to go through. 

Kai and his father Kim kept staring at the door the three left through for a few seconds before Kim decided that it was finally time. 

"We're leaving today, we'll be there by tomorrow morning…" 

With that, Kai was the only one left in the room… 

Examining the plates full of steak and other types of delicious food in front of him, Kai let out a big sigh as he thought to himself. 

'Wouldn't it be a waste if we leave all those plates to get rotten and thrown away? '

Not wanting to waste a single piece of food, Kai grabbed the fork and the knife from the sides as he started to dig in… 

….

After more than six hours, in the middle of nowhere between a chain of mountains, a fancy car parked outside of what seemed to be a military research area… There were many signs for civilians to stay away from this area but the people in the car didn't seem to give it any attention as it kept moving forward despite all the warnings. 

This could only mean two things, either the people in this car were simply dumb explorers and thought they could do whatever they want, or they are of a great position in society and they have enough authority to get in here. 

Which soon was confirmed to be the second as two people, a grown man and his child walked out of the car and went straight inside of the research base without any questions being asked or even getting checked. 

This only made it clear that the two were of no normal origins as even the highest and most powerful people in the country would still need to be checked before entering this specific base. 

Walking through the streets of the base, which one would expect to be nearly empty due to the strict security and high authority needed to enter this place, were so crowded that the two were barely able to find a way between all the people. 

There were so many people that their numbers could be compared to a small town or village. 

The only special, noticeable thing about them was the fact they all wore researchers' outfits, it was like every scientist and doctor in the country was assembled in this one place… 

The two eventually passed the crowds to a more empty area where even they needed to be checked, unlike the outer area…

After passing through the checkpoints, the duo went inside a big round building which had a big sign suspended outside of it that read. 

'The Dark Matter Facility' 

The grown man and the kid entered the building and moved through it like they knew every inch of the place like the back of their hand… 

Which of course they did, after all, they have been coming to this place for more than 15 years for their experiments, which was also the reason behind their presence today as they were coming for the Black Ocean test…

Yes, the two were obviously Kai and his father Kim, and they were about to go through some hell.
