From the seed, a giant tree formed and each branch formed a broom which was handed to all the participants including Asta.
" For the first test, you have to show your flying skills by floating with the broom "
Many participants floated at a small height before falling. Some nobles were able to fly up to a short height but Yuno stood on the broom and flew around like an expert. He indicated that his mana control was superior to everyone around him. This got many jealous glances from other participants.
The girl named Annie was not as good as Yuno but did better than most of them.
Asta knew he couldn't fly so he just acted like he was trying.
Julian standing in a corner watching a silver-haired girl taking glances towards the exam site holding a broom. Julian had concealed his presence so she did not even sense him even though he was standing near her.
When she was about to go ahead a voice rang in her ears.
"Where do you think you are going. This is not a place for people like you. Don't tarnish our family's name more than you already have. "
Said Novel looking at Noelle who was frightened.
" Y-yes Nozel- oni sama, " said Noelle before going towards the exit with a dejected face.
Nozel looked towards Julian and without giving any reaction went to his position in the viewing space.
'That guy is an idiot ' thought Julian as he continued watching the contestants.
As far as Julian knew Noelle had a complicated case. Noelle's mother died shortly after suffering from a curse. Noelle looked exactly like her mother.
Nozel wanted her to live a normal life and stay away from the path of magic knights so that she didn't suffer like her mother. So he discouraged her so that she doesn't dream of magic knights like his family. But he never went too far to make her cry but the other two siblings didn't understand the matter and started blaming her for her mother's death and physically and mentally abusing her. He made Noelle develop a trauma.
Due to this, she wasn't able to control her magic. She was born with a high amount of mana but doesn't have the means to control it. A user's magic responds to its feelings and dreams but she doesn't even realize what she wants.
What a messed-up situation, Julian thought. He didn't reach that episode when the story was told, he had heard that from his sister.
Meanwhile, at the exam site, various other tests were conducted like forming small shapes with mana, shooting mana. There was a new test Julian didn't see last time in which William provided everyone with seeds that could bloom a plant depending on the user's nature.
Yuno had a pure white flower which shows that he had no malice. Some had pure black flowers that were full of greed and jealousy or some had two flowers of different colors that showed dual personalities.
Annie bloomed a flower that was golden in color and shined the brightest.
"You bloomed a beautiful flower "commented Yuno.
"yours too " Annie commented with a wide smile.
Asta took out the hilt of his sword and touched the seed but in place of growing into a flower, the seed turned to ash as if all its vitality was taken away.
The voice inside William's head was in turmoil watching Asta's Grimoire and the sword.
'THAT GRIMOIRE! How could he have that!'
'Not now Licht, we can discuss this later'
Yami was keeping an eye on Yuno and Asta and was interested as he saw Asta's flower seed die out.
' I still can't figure out his magic. He couldn't do anything in the tests but I feel like there is something more to that hilt I saw ' Yami thought.
After all the parts were done It was finally turned for the final event, one on one combat.
This time Fuegoelon took the mic and announced the rules. Everyone was trying to find someone weaker than them to fight but everyone looked at Asta as he looked the weakest but Sekke beat everyone to it.
" Asta I challenge you to a fight Bah -ha, " said Selke.
' Here comes the person who was showing off the entire time. Though he appears friendly and stayed close to me I am sure he has ulterior motives ' thought Asta.
" looks like Sekke chose the weakest one before us ' some people whispered.
Finral who had moved from the viewing stand approached Julian and gave him a can of juice.
"Thanks".
"This brings back memories, " Julian said as he started drinking
"Yes, it's been more than one year since you officially joined," said Finral.
"Okay then, meet you after the fights are over. Seems like I will need to intervein a lot " said Julian looking at the faces of the contestants.
"Sure"
"One last thing Finral, be sure to start gathering your mana as soon as the selection starts or the captain will shout again "
"Thanks for reminding Julian"
"THE FIRST MATCH HAS BEEN SET, BOTH PARTICIPANTS MOVE FORWARD, " said the announcer.
They both moved to the center of the stadium for the match.
"Let us both try our best, " said Asta while shaking his hand before confrontation aspers to rules.
After the handshake, Sekke whispered in Asta's ears " You don't have to try so hard. You are just a rat who appeared in the wrong place. Thanks for making me look good until now. I will get into magic knights and have a luxurious life for both of us. So dream on peasant " and took his position.
Asta heard him and didn't have any change in his expression.

" Give your best shot Asta Bah-ha! "
[Bronze creation magic: Sekke magnum cannonball ]
A sphere-like structure with weird patterns formed around sekke.
"Sure don't complain later, " said Asta
Asta opened his grimoire and summoned the demon slayer sword and with all his strength struck the magic sphere. He was so fast in this approach that nearby people only saw an afterimage and small cracks where he was standing. The giant sword struck Sekke with such a force that it formed a crater around him. The entire sphere was cut in two and the sword hit Sekke's shoulder bone-breaking it. He faced unimaginable pain and fainted.
*complete silence * all the participants were speechless except Yuno and Julian above. Even the captains were amazed. Nobody explained such a twist
" Speed type magic? " Charlotte muttered
" No, it was pure physical strength, " said Yami
" Antimagic, Julian told you to inform " Finral whispered near Yami which made a smile on his face with curiosity.
' That sword, I am sure that is master's. Why does this human have that !!!.' screamed a voice inside William.
Julian who with Sharingan was looking at William saw a small change in William's expression it was turned back to normal again.
Asta put his sword on his shoulder and said " I am not joining the magic knights to enjoy my time. I am joining to work hard and make this country a better place and become the Wizard King! "
" Wizard king! What is this brat speaking! … is he insane .." all sorts of comments were passed but Asta ignored them and returned to the participants.
