We Are The Exception

-Story Start-

-Third Person POV-

The sun shone brightly over the urban jungle of Tokyo.

The streets were abuzz with activity as people of all ages made their way along the paved pathways.

Vehicles clogged the roads, a familiar frustration in this bustling city.

Our focus shifts to a lone bus heading toward Tokyo Bay.

In agonizing slowness, it inched through the traffic, navigating the cluttered roads until it reached a less congested route, finally allowing it to speed up.

Yet, the long journey left some passengers in discomfort.

The bus was filled to capacity with people of varying ages and professions, most notably a large percentage of students.

Among them, a particular issue stood out: Some passengers had no choice but to stand due to the overcapacity.

Normally, this wouldn't be a significant problem, but when it drags on for so long, it becomes a real concern, especially for the elderly.

"Excuse me! Could anyone please relinquish their seat?" A uniformed schoolgirl pleaded, her voice cutting through the murmur of the bus.

She stood beside an elderly woman whose legs wobbled from the strain.

Her gaze shifted from one indifferent face to another, her eyes almost begging.

Finally, her eyes landed on a blonde, haughty figure sitting in a priority seat.

She stepped forward to ask but was interrupted.

"The old lady can sit here! My bad, I wasn't really paying attention!" A cheery voice called out from the back.

A pink-haired boy, previously in deep sleep, raised his hand and stood up, offering a wide grin.

He wore the same school uniform as the girl.

Beside him, a hulking figure in the same uniform stood up as well, moving in sync with the pink-haired boy.

The silent, self-assured aura surrounding him created an almost surreal sight when taking into account how oddly in sync their movement was.

"As expected of you, Brother. Your kindness knows no bounds," the hulking figure said with a satisfied smirk.

The pink-haired boy made his way toward the elderly woman and the pleading girl, the hulking figure by his side.

"Are you sure you don't want to sit, Aoi? I don't mind standing," the pink-haired boy asked.

The hulking figure, Aoi, shook his head, "We wouldn't have won the Middle School Baseball Nationals if I had that kind of halfhearted resolve, Brother."

Reaching the elderly woman and the girl, the pink-haired boy chuckled, a teasing smirk forming on his face, "Yeah! That's true! Your resolve was... Pfft, unshakable when you decided to give up on going to Takada-san's meet-and-greets in favor of enrolling in this school."

Aoi's expression soured, and a depressive aura enveloped him. "...I take back my words."

The pink-haired boy laughed and turned to the elderly woman, gesturing to his seat. "It's all yours."

"Thank you, young man," she said, bowing in gratitude.

"Nah, it's no biggie! Happy to help! Have a nice day!" he replied with a wide smile, rubbing the back of his head.

As the elderly woman took his seat, a girl's voice caught the pink-haired boy's attention.

The very same that had attempted to assist the elderly lady.

Her cutesy tone and good looks momentarily caught him off guard, but he maintained respectful eye contact as his grandfather had taught him.

"Thank you very much for giving up your seat!" she said with an exaggerated bow.

"It's okay! I said it's no biggie... Sheesh, it's just a seat on a bus..." he shrugged.

"Always humble. That's my Brother," Aoi said, folding his arms in pride.

The girl chuckled, straightening herself and flashing a charming smile. "Why don't you take the other free seat Aoi had? We won't sit if one of us has to stand," the pink-haired boy suggested, giving Aoi a knowing look. Aoi nodded in confirmation.

The girl blinked and then shook her head. "No thanks! I'm fine standing. I sit too much as it is."

Clapping her hands excitedly, she continued, "More importantly!" She scrutinized their uniforms. "It looks like we're going to the same school! First years, right?"

The two boys nodded, albeit the pink-haired boy was still a little awkward about it.

'I get Aoi being admitted. But how did I get accepted here... With that dumb head of mine...' The thought of getting accepted into such a prestigious and Elite high school was still making him scratch his head.

"Perfect~!" she exclaimed, her excitement excessive and infectious.

The pink-haired boy looked confused, while Aoi narrowed his gaze.

She quickly apologized, "Oh, sorry! It's just my goal is to be friends with everyone from our school year! At the very least! Hopefully friends with the whole school!"

The pink-haired boy processed this, "That's... a nice goal! Go for it... Erm... What's your name?"

She chuckled, "Oh, we haven't introduced ourselves yet, silly. My name's Kikyo Kushida. It's a pleasure to meet you. I hope we can be friends!"

Mirroring her friendly smile with equal enthusiasm, the pink-haired boy introduced himself, pointing a thumb at his chest, "I'm Yuuji Itadori! Nice to meet you! And yeah, no problem at all! We're already friends, no need for formality!"

She squeaked happily, "Great! Let's excha- Oh, sorry, I forgot about you!" She turned to Aoi, who had been silent.

"What's your name?" she asked innocently, tilting her head cutely.

Aoi's face hardened.

Ignoring her question, he looked straight ahead.

Yuuji sighed, already expecting this.

The bus had arrived at the gates of their prestigious school.

Just before it paused, the fateful question was asked for the first time in the eccentric duo's high school life:

"What is your type of woman? If you like boys, that's fine as well."
