Mackie stood under the shower and let the cold water run down his body. He wished it would wash away the humiliation he felt right now. It had been an hour since she came to call him. He doubted that he would ever be able to look Annabel in the eyes again, he doubted that she would ever forgive him. 

  He squeezed the cologate toothpaste in his palm tightly and watched it burst, the content flowing into the bathtub. 

Why had he not refused Paya? Why did he let his emotions rule over his thinking? Did this mean he had lost Annabel for ever? Would she ever look at him in the same way again? Would she ever be able to kiss and hold him just like before?.

  He was confused and devastated. He had just ruined his chance.

How was he supposed to explain to Annabel that nothing happened and that it was just been caught in the moment? Would she ever believe him and take his word for it?.
