Chapter three

Abigail looked out the window with her hands clutching on to her dress, she was nervous yes. She could see the different reporters outside just waiting to get on them, sure Xavier's men would help them to get through but she was sure one or two would get their hands on her.

"You are scared" Xavier said when he noticed her nervousness, his eyes strained on her face and he also noticed the trail of sweats. 

"I'm not scared" Abigail quickly spoke not letting him jump into any conclusions, she took a deep breath as she closed her eyes.

"You are trying not to be" Xavuer added as he watched her do this, he could tell she was trying her best no to look scared or frightened.

"Let her be Xavier, it's not so easy to walk out in front of this swam of reporters. " Jeffery spoke in her defence with his eyes outsides for a little while before he added.

"I myself am scared.of having to walk on that red carpet knowing that whatever mistake I make will be out on the papers tomorrow. These reporters are just here to get something from you, they are like tiny little devil's just waiting outside" Jeffery ended his speech as he looked outside one more time before taking another deep breath. 

The car had now stopped in front of the red carpet and a lot of people were already gathering outside to see who would come out of this black limo.

"I'm sure you are not scared Xavier, you've had to go throught this for almost all the events you attend" Jeffery spoke as he continued to look out but the more he looked, the more tensed he got.

"And you?" Jeffery asked as he tilted his head slightly to the side to get a better view of him.

"Hey I'm not the billionaire playboy who gets invited to all the events in this country, you don't expect me to be used to this, not one bit."

Jeffery complained, the truth was he didn't really have a hard time walking on this carpet but when he saw that Abigail had a little fear in her, he thought if he showed her that she wasn't the only one then she would lighten up. 

"Let's go" Xavier finally spike when one of his men came to open the doors for them, another four stood aside waiting for them to get out of the car so they can escort them inside the event hall.

"Mr Quinn??" Many reporters called out as they swamped them but Xavier's men acted fast making sure to ptotect Xavier.

"Who is this lady you brought along?" 

That question had made Abigail halt but she quickly regained herself and continued to walk, she knew she had to catch up with Xavier so she won't get dragged into the mob. She looked behind and saw that Jeffery was still at the back but he had three guys with him, that would ensure his security.

"Mr Lang, it seems you are playing the third wheel tonight" One of the reporters said followed by a chuckle from the ones who had heard him.

Jeffery only took one glance at him to mark his face, he didn't say any words of response as he walked into the building. 

"The key is to play deaf to their words, no matter what they say, do not answer them. These reporters are only looking for a story and you answering them.is helping Thier cause." Xavier whispered next to her, he didn't say this out of care but because he didn't want Abigail to hear what Jeffery was being told right now, he feared if she did then today might be even more eventful than planned.

"Is this the new lady Mr Quinn?" 

"What is you relationship with her?" 

"Is she going to be like the rest?" 

The last one was rather unsultive but like Xavier said, pay no heed to them, all Abigail could do was walk by with a small smile on her lips. She knew this would be the headline in the news tomorrow morning and so she thought to look good in front of the camera.

Finally they got into the building, Abigail and Xavier had arrived first before Jeffery walked in, he had a swollen face like he had been offended.

"What is it?" Xavier asked as he looked around the spacious all, his lack of concern and interest in the question he asked was very evident.

"One of the reporters tagged me as the third wheel" Jeffery said and he was sure he heard a small laugh coming from Abigail.

"it's not funny Abigail" Jeffery said with pouted lips as he turned away from them.

"Sorry" Abigail whispered as she zipped her lips in order not to laugh.

"You can't blame them for cling you that, after all you did come alone, why didn't you bring a date along with you?" Xavier asked as they began to walk slowly into the event hall but made a stop to grab their masks.

"I didn't know who to bring along, you know I broke up with her right, imagine me coming here with a different girl, it would cause lots of unnecessary talk and some of which might affect her, you know how the media works" Jeffery said as he picked up a green mask that had golden lining on it. 

"Then you prefer to be called the third wheeler, I'm sure by tomorrow that news would be on the headlines" Xavier spoke as he handed one mask to Abigail before putting his on.

Abigail glanced at the mask in her hand, not that she didn't know how to put it on but this mask reminded her of so many things. The first night she met Xavier, she was putting on a mask like this. She wondered what it was between these rich guys and masks, why do they always hide their identities?

Xavier mistook her silence for lack of understanding and so he took the mask from her and helped her out it on, after carefully tieing the knot he said.

"beautiful"

Xavier didn't know how he uttered that word, but after helping her out on the mask, he stood aside so he could get a good view of her with the mask on and only one word came out of his mouth. 

"Beautiful" 

Yes indeed Abigail was beautiful, with or without the mask, her beauty was extra ordinary and he wasn't going to deny her of that.
