She scoffed. “Yes, you’re the woman’s husband.”
He scratched his nose. “Yes, I’m your husband.”
She laughed hysterically, removing the tubes from her hand, and standing before him. “You’re mistaken. I’m not Manal, your wife, or any name you call her.”
But she sat again, clutching her chest, in pain. Jawad rushed to call the doctor. The doctor arrived, securing the tubes and instructing her not to move. Jawad asked about the recent events, and the doctor speculated it might be memory loss due to her heart stopping for a minute. As the day progressed, Jawad remained by her side, while she vowed to prove her identity once the accursed wires were removed.
“Manal,” he called her gently.
She glared. “I told you I’m not her.”
He looked up at the sky. “Very well. If you’re not Manal, my wife, then who are you?”
