Chapter 1: Last Day on Earth

Benjamin Reed POV

"Does anyone have any questions about the assignment," asked Professor Bartholomew.

No one said anything, because everyone was ready to leave the class no one more than myself. 'I still don't know why he asks this question when no one says anything in response and why does he do it nearly thirty minutes before the end of the class. I thought to myself for a hundredth time since the start of this semester. All of a sudden, I got the feeling someone's looking at me and I decided to ignore it like all the other times it happened before. I can't wait to get to the BattleTech group I'm with after this class.'

I look up to the professor to see him looking at his wristwatch and then look at the clock on the wall. Possibly to check if his watch is accurate or the other way around. I then heard him say "Well class there's still five minutes left before the class is over but I'm letting you go early today." I got up and left the class since I was prepared to leave the class and because I was the closest to the door, I was the first to leave the classroom.

'Which mech should I choose for my character, a Shadow Hawk 2D or Hunchback 4H.' I get to the doors and hold them open for someone that had too many items in their hands'. Just as I leave the building the bell rings and I take a deep breath of fresh air and look up and see a bird flying away from something that is falling. 'Why do birds love to crap on m....'.

A few moments earlier

A large bird lands on top of a gargoyle and preening itself to stay health, it gets startled by a loud bell causing it to jerk and launch itself off of the gargoyle. With it sudden motion and the already weaken structure of the gargoyle it starts to come lose and falls straight down upon a man that just started to look up.

As this was happening a news crew was there doing a reporting of a professor going to this college was arrested for drunk driving. And they caught on the camera the gargoyle falling down onto the man.

The cameraman saw this and was standing a gob smocked at this and the reporter ask, "what's wrong now"? And the cameraman was about to point to what's happening when the sound of stone shattering upon the sidewalk and the sound of screaming women at the doors covered in blood.

"Did you get that on camera", asked the reporter? The cameraman responded with an affirmative. And they ran over to the scene while one of the other students was calling the emergency services for the death that happen in front of them.
