Chapter 28 - Dealing with the Momo

They stood their, in silence, as the Momo rapidly approached them. Kumar took a step forward, holding his hand. Red streams of light began to gather in his hand for a moment before it halted, and a fiery tipped, red spear began to form in his hand. The officer alongside him, Mark, took a couple of steps backward, moving behind Kumar, as Kumar shifted to a square horse stance, gripping the spear with both hands, facing the Momo side on, as it zeroed in on him, a brown glow coating it's arms.

When the Momo reached striking distance, Kumar lunged forward with his front foot, thrusting the spear forwards. As he did so, Mark raised his left hand, a golden ball forming rapidly, before it erupted in a blinding light. The Momo instinctively raised it's right hand to cover his right eye, just as Kumar's spear thrust connected with the Momo's leg, sending it tumbling forwards. Kumar decisively let go of the spear as soon as it connected and jumped backwards, while raising his buckler in front of him, a white glow starting to form around it, as the Momo fell forwards, face first, it's arms lashing out, trying to stabilize itself.

Once it fell, Mark stepped forward, holding his red longsword in a two handed grip as a brown glow started to coat it, and hacked towards the back of the Momo's head, before jumping backwards, barely avoiding the Momo as it lashed forwards with it's arms in retaliation. As it got up, slowly, disorientated, a loud, deafening booming sound erupted from Muncher's Delight, as the officer took it's shot, burying a bullet in it's right pupil. The Momo screeched in pain, rubbing his right eye, as Kumar took a deep breath and smiled.

"Good job every..."

A faint, red light rippled around the Momo, enshrouding everything in a certain area around the Momo. As it enveloped Kumar, he cut off, his face distorting. He then clenched his teeth, watching the Momo warily as it stood their, motionless.

"Stay mobile every....."

The Momo started running forwards, towards Kumar, waving his hand forwards as a brown light started forming around them. Kumar hastily leaped out of the way. Jamie sent Blackwing a mental command.

"Blackwing, fire an ember at it's back, and land on the ground."

Blackwing opened it's mouth and an ember shot out of it's mouth as the Momo was running blindly towards Kumar's last location, Once the Ember hit, the Momo stopped, looking around, evidently trying to locate where the Ember came from. Kumar waved to Mark, and they stepped back slowly, carefully, trying not to make any noise that would draw the Momo's attention. They made a sigh of relief as they exited it's aura field.

Mark and Kumar walked over to Amber and Jamie, along with the officer in Muncher's Delight, and whispered "It's trying to locate us with it's ears. "

"So, what do we do?"

Kumar grinned viciously, and said "We get it to drain all it's energy and k...."

The radio on Kumar's waist crackled. Kumar hastily moved away from the group, fiddling with some dials as the Momo started looking about, trying to locate the direction of the faint noise it had heard, before it stilled.

The group started to look towards Kumar's direction as his face grew grim. He sighed, putting down his radio, as he looked towards the approaching group. He said in a low voice. "A couple of teams could use some help. To kill this Momo, we would need to get it to use all it's energy which would take time."

He turned to look at Amber and Jamie "Do you two think you could use your beasts to draw it away outside of town?"

"Yes" "Sure"

Kumar nodded. He then made a gesture to the officers, and started walking away with the other two officers. Amber and Jamie looked at each other.

"I can do it..." "I can do it....."

The stopped talking, smiling. Jamie gestured towards Amber, and she said.

"Leo has a instantaneous movement skill that can let it move instantaneous."

"Eve can move forwards instantaneously as well."

They stood looking at each awkwardly, before Jamie said. "We can take turns. It has it's aura, and it's a stage higher then our beasts, it may be faster. "

Amber took out a phone from her pocket, bringing up a map. "We need to lure it somewhere, we can divide the distance between our two beasts."

The Momo kept it's aura up for thirty minutes. Jamie and Amber exchanged numbers and set a location to lure it, away from the town, and divided the distance that they needed to get the Momo to travel between them. Jamie, Blackwing, and Eve moved to their waiting location while Amber waited. Eventually, The Momo started to get restless, walking around and letting out a guttural sound from it's throat, and lashing out at a car it bumped into. Eventually, the red glow started to recede. Amber said mentally to Leo "Your up."

Far down, on a road, Eve waited. Strapped to her, on a belt, were a variety of knives Jamie had scavenged along the way.

On the road. She could see Leo approaching, the Momo on his trail, quickly gaining ground. Leo used his last movement skill, evading the blow of the Momo, and continued running. As it closed in on Leo Eve ran towards the Momo, and moved instantaneously into the Momo's foot on the ground. Leo started slowing down, as the Momo crashed to the ground, letting out a hiss, before getting up. Eve used her telekinesis to lift a knife from her belt hovering it in front of the Momo's right pupil. She let out a loud, noisy howl, and sent the knife crashing into the pupil.

The Momo hissed, then turned towards Eve's direction, and started running. Eve's lips curled and she turned and started running at full speed.

She kept glancing over her shoulder as she sprinted down the street, her footsteps leaving an audible thudding noise in the surroundings. She noticed in alarm the pale humanoid figure was gaining on her rapidly. As she turned to look forwards after glancing behind her once again, she looked around wildly, looking for anything to lob at the Momo with her mind. She noticed a shovel lying on one of the yards of the lawns of the houses, and raised it up hovering slightly above her.

Taking a behind glance, she saw the Momo's pale bloody face and bulging eyes. She yelped, and sent the shovel hurling towards it. The Momo let out a hiss in annoyance. Eventually, she could see smell the smell of rust. Looking back, she could see pale face almost hovering above her and see it starting to swipe down. She let out a yelp, and tapped into her energy, feeling the drain as she moved five meters instantaneously. She thought in relief "That was too close."

The dangerous game of cat and mouse continued, as she used her dash skill to move forwards just as the Momo was in striking distance. Eventually, she could see Jamie waiting ahead in the distance, besides a black car with Blackwing on top, waving. Finally, she thought, with some relief. "It's over."

Looking behind her, she noticed the Momo's face was hovering right over her, and she yelped and used her skill, shooting forwards, closing in on Jamie. She could feel her energy pools running dangerously low, as she desperately pushed her body for the final stretch.

Digging deep, Eve managed to push forth a burst of physical energy as she shot towards Jamie. Jamie opened the car door, and kept one hand raised in the air as he hunched over the ignition. He dropped his hand and a low voice sounded in her head.

"Now."

She angled her direction sharply, pulling the final knife out and hovering it above her head. As she heard the sound of the car turning on, she tapped into her last energy reserves and moved forwards instantaneously, while sending the knife towards the Momo, then stopped moving.

The Momo hissed in rage, as a dagger and an ember crashed into it. It sped towards the car as Jamie and Blackwing hastily moved away from it. Eve almost let out a howl before she caught herself, and crept away from the Momo as it demolished the car.

Jamie and Blackwing met up with Eve later. He smiled and rubbed her neck, saying "Well done. How do you feel."

Eve lay on the ground, her eyes closed as Jamie rubbed her.

"Tired. Exhausted. I could use a drink of water."

Jamie's gaze lowered slightly. "Sorry Eve, I didn't think to bring any."

Eve huffed "I'm just glad it's over."

Jamie looked up, saying "So am I. The officers shoul...."

Eve lay still for a moment, before noticing Jamie had stopped rubbing her. She opened one eye and sent "Why did you stop?"

Jamie stood shock still as he looked into the distance. Finally, he answered "I think more Momo's are coming."
