Chapter 19

"Wait," Chase went after her,

"Do you know how it feels to be punched?"

Amanda paused and turned to him,

"Yes. A lot of times than you realized. If you're whining about why I told you to stop crying, it's because I know it's not your first time."

Hearing those words, Chase looked down.

"I'm not like you. Everyone just thinks I'm completely useless without my brain."

He sat on a bench facing Amanda.

"I am rich like them. But I don't know why they look down on me."

A tear trickled down his cheek.

"They are right,"

Amanda replied as she walked to the edge of the bench Chase was sitting.

'I knew it. She's also the same.' Chase lost all his hope.

"They would look down on you because you're too kind."

Chase looked at her stunned,

"They think they can do whatever they want because they think you wouldn't do the same."

Amanda looked at the city below through the railing.

"But my mom said I have to be kind. Being a good person can make everyone too,"

He stood up.

"Does that mean you have to be kind all the time?"

Amanda looked behind through the corners of her eye,

"I don't blame you anyway, but. If someone robbed you, would you pay them back for what they stole?"

She looked back down at the city.

"No," Chase looked down,

"Then that's the same. You can be a good person for all you want, but that doesn't mean all the time. Sometimes you have to punch someone if they punch you."

Amanda walked back inside putting on her headphones.

- after class

The servants greeted Chase warmly as he entered the villa.

"Dinner will be ready soon!" Katherine Wilson (Chase's mother) called,

After a while their dinner was ready.

Katherine called Chase to come down for dinner.

As they were eating, Katherine asked Chase how was school as usual.

Instead of hearing the same reply, Chase looked up to her,

"There's a new student in our class,"

Katherine's eyes lit up.

"Really?" She asked, excitedly

Chase nodded,

"Is it a he or she?"

"She,"

"What's she like?"

After a million questions, Chase immediately excused himself to bed.

He lay there thinking about what Amanda just said.

'Maybe it's true,'

He turned around.

He kept turning until he finally fell asleep.

Two years had passed and Chase is now doing good at school.

He made friends and earned his respect.

He still followed his mother's advice.

But as he continued to go on,

he still couldn't forget about Amanda.

Apparently, Amanda had moved to another school for some reason.

The news gave Chase a complete shock.

He tried to contact her but the signal was busy.

He finally had the moment.

"Hello?" Chase quickly said,

"Hm?" Amanda's voice replied,

"Why didn't you tell me you were moving?"

"Huh?"

"I'm serious,"

"How am I supposed to tell you?"

"You can come to my place."

"I don't even know where you live."

"How about you call me?"

"I don't have your number,"

"But I gave you my number."

"When?"

Chase rubbed his head.

'How can she forget so easily when she has a photographic memory?'

"Oh, you mean the one you wrote on my notebook with permanent ink?" Amanda remembered,

"Exactly!"

Amanda was silent for a moment.

"I threw the paper,"

"What?! Why?" Chase sat down feeling hopeless,

"I thought it was spam,"

'Seriously?!' Chase kicked the sofa hard.

"I'm sorry, okay! I didn't know you wrote that one."

"Who else would come near you and talk to you like a friend?"

"You, Jason, Charlotte, Amelia, Gretchen-"

"Okay, okay!"
