Chapter 25

So trouble did come. Maybe that guy was semi-important or someone didn't want him dead. Because there are around 20 people outside who are wearing armor, standing right outside the gate with swords drawn. This seems like a fun enough fight! Now all I need to do is find Miquel so he can guard Eve for a little bit! And all it takes is 2 minutes of walking before I find him and he starts talking right away.

"Do you know why there are armed guards outside?"

"Yes."

"Did you do something?"

"Yes."

"You do realize you are putting Eve in jeopardy by leading these guards here. Right?"

"They will be gone in a bit."

"Gone? Are they gonna be nice enough to leave and I just happen to not be able to see their smiles? Behind their LAYERS OF ARMOR!?!?"

"Calm down."

"YOU WANT ME TO CALM DOWN?!?! YOU NEED TO F*CKING BE LESS CALM!!!"

"Did you just curse?"

"I'M GOING TO KILL YOU! Then I'll turn you over to the guards myself."

"Just give me like 10 minutes to make the guards go away."

"I will kill you whether you have your sorcery or not."

"I beat you up last time so calm down. It will only take a bit."

"This is not a joke! This is my and Eve's lifes on the line! You may not care about your life but at least do it for Eve."

"I told you it will be f*cking fine so chill the hell out! You need to put more faith in me!"

"Faith in you?! I haven't even known you for 2 weeks and you want me to trust you?!"

"Yes."

"God damn you!"

"Ok."

And I walk away. It will be fine! How can he not trust God's very own son? Shouldn't I passively radiate trustworthiness? How do he think it's ok to act like that? Does he think I would hurt Eve? Well I can go f*ck up those guards first then beat some sense into him. Wait! Sh*t! Am I getting more volatile? This magic tornado needs to back off. Calm! Calm! After taking a second to calm down I walk over to the gate of the manor. After arriving the guards speak first.

"We are here to confirm the succession of the set heir."

"Who chose the heir?"

"His majesty."

"Who did he choose?"

"The brother of the former Duke. Being your response I assume that either, the new Duke did not show or he was killed, after trying to assume the title of Duke."

"The previous Duke set his only female child to be the heir."

"His majesty was informed that the Duke never chose a successor."

"He did, I am her ladyship's guard, Maximus."

"I understand. Surely a Duke could hire a stronger guard than you, yes? Maybe one who doesn't carry a pirate's sword?

"If you would like to see my skills, I would be happy to show you."

"Please do then. John! Step up!"

Then one of the guards that were behind the emissary walks up to me and talks with the emissary.

"Sir!"

"Please battle with this man and show him our squadrons power!"

"Yes! Sir!"

The guard named John walks up to me without talking and holds his sword out in front of him. So I talk to the emissary.

"Seeing that you don't seem to think much of a sword like mine. How about you let me borrow one of yours."

"Fine. Don't disgrace the sword, or I will run you through myself. Henry, toss your spare."

A man walks forward to me and hands me the unsheathed sword. I take a few steps away from John and nod my head at the emissary. He told his hand up and pauses. After a few seconds he swings his hand down and starts the duel. The guard walks quickly towards me and swings diagonally across my chest. I position myself in the standard fencing position. After the sword heads towards me I step back and the sword passes in front of me I lunge forward with my sword and strike his sword wielding hand. While he is dropping his sword I advance toward him and hold my sword to his throat. The emissary speaks up.

"That was an exquisite fight! I bet even I would have trouble fighting you."

"I thank you for your flattery."

"Seeing your skill I will send a report to his majesty. But I will still require you to get proof that the title is being passed down to the duke's daughter."

"Of course sir."

"I will be on my way. Of course if you attempt to leave the city during this time I will have to have you hanged."

"I will stay in her ladyship's residence."

"I look forward to your achievements in the upcoming battle."

And they just walk away, still in complete uniform. Or I believe they arrived in uniform, their boots made a racket. But a war? That sounds fun! Maybe if I get a great enough achievement I can say then to give Eve the title without the proof! As for the dead guy, they probably didn't care about him. I would guess he was just a stand in! Or else why would he have arrived with no guards. As for all of the lies I told. I bet it will all work out! I have father guiding the way!

It's time to go back to Eve! Maybe if she was scared I could comfort her! I bet she would see me as her dad even more! There is no way she would think of Miquel after this! What would a mortal rather? A guard like Miquel or a ducal title? No. A ducal title and a great dad like me! That would make them god's granddaughter! Maybe I should help her with some more magic. Or I could finally give Miquel magic! So she could see that even Miquel depends on me!
