Chapter 7, First Mission and a Wyvern?!

As we were looking around for what we should do, I was wondering whether I should tell them about myself.

"What's wrong? Not feeling well?" Misa asked me.

"No. I'm fine." I answered. "Anything?"

"Most are easy but don't pay well." Jason sighed and then something caught my eye.

"Twelve gold coins." I took the flyer on the wall. "Only twelve gold coins for exterminating a single wyvern? Kinda low isn't it?"

"What?! That's already pretty high!!" Veronica answered me.

"Really? Back home almost anyone trained in magic can take down a wyvern. Mainly those in guilds." I answered.

"There's no way!! You need atleast twelve men just to take it down!!" She snapped.

"Wanna try it out?" I asked.

"Yeah... well, we're not really into the risking our life kind of thing." Jason said.

"Then that means I'm going on my own." I said.

"Oi!! Are you serious?!" He exclaimed.

"Yeah." I answered and went to the counter.

"Well... um... are you sure?" Dahlia-san asked a little worried.

"Don't worry about me." I told her and she nodded.

The destination is Freya Town to the East of here. A day away by horses. It'll probably only take a day by flight.

I walk to the outskirts of town and check to see if anyone is watching me before I disperse my physical body. I'm basically magical power so I can travel with anything that has magical power, including the earth and sky. I easily fly through the skies and reach the outskirts of Freya Town before descending and returning my body to normal. I carefully look around a bit before going to the gate.

I think the one sent the request is the governing lord of this town. I go to his mansion and at first the guards wouldn't let me in but they soon open when I show them the hunter quest. A maid guides me to the lord's office.

"Greetings." A forty year old man greets me, dressed in noble clothes he rugged build, brown hair and golden eyes. "I'm the governing lord of this town, Elias Grande. Are you the only one who was willing to take my request?"

"Yes. Greetings. My name is Haruka." I bowed my head.

"Hmmm... I'm worried but since you got the approval of the one in charge I'll allow it." He said and got up from his desk. "The wyvern was spotted a week ago, it's been terrorizing our farms taking animals. We want you to exterminate it."

"I understand." I answered. "Where was it last spotted?"

"Near the mountains, it comes down every day to take an animal from our farms." He answered. "It appears during midday to dusk."

"Perfect, that means it'll appear soon." I said. "I'll take care of it right away."

"Good luck." He said and I bowed my head before leaving.

It's past noon now, it'll probably strike soon. I immediately went to farm where the animals were currently being tended to by the farmers.

"Oh? You are the young man they sent?" A woman, with golden tied in a braid down her shoulder said, she had blue eyes and white skin and dressed in farmwr clothes.

"Yes. Nice to meet you. I'm Haruka." I said and bowed my head.

"Nice to meet you, Haruka. My name is Rosa." She smiled. "The wyvern often comes in high noon and dusk."

"That's alright. I can take care of it." I said.

"You'll need an animal to bait it right? Please use any of the kne we have." A man, with black hair, brown eyes and brown skin said. "I'm Ver. Use whatever you can."

"Thank you, but I'm more worried that they're out here in the open." I said.

I looked at the animals which are a little thin. They probably haven't been eating grass lately because of the Wyverns. I stared at the field with lots of grass.

"You can let them go and eat. I'll watch them." I said. "You haven't gotten any sleep haven't you?"

"Pretty much. We're worried that it might attack at night." He answered.

"Where do you keep them at night?" I asked.

"Over there, in that barn." Rosa-san pointed to a barn that seems like it'll collapse soon.

"Hmm... you can let them sleep outside tonight. They'll be safe." I said and turned to the area where the herd of cows were grazing. "Weary trvellers, ones who have suffered much, offer them shelter and rest in thy embrace, Sanctuary."

A magical circle shined above the pastures and a barrier was erected around the area the cows were grazing. I turned my attention to the barn they were being kept in. It's pretty old and looks like it'll crumble down at any minute.

"Excuse me, about the barn. Is there anything inside?" I asked them.

"Nothing. Just hay for the animals to eat." Ver-san answered. "Why do you ask?"

"I'll rebuild the barn." I said.

"No. We can't possibly ask you to do that." Rosa-san said.

"Don't worry, it'll only take a bit. Creation Magic is very useful." I said.

"We don't have any way of thanking you." She added.

"No need to thank me." I answered her. "Just think of it as free service till that wyvern comes."

"Then, thank you." She said.

I placed my hand on the barn and to check its state. It's pretty old but a little restoration magic can make it all better.

"What are you going to do exaclty?" Ver-san asked.

"Just restore it to how it was." I answered him.

"Restore it? How?" Rosa-san asked.

"Time, I emplore you, turn back the gears, rewrite the story, go back to the moment of glory. Recall."

In an instant, a magic circle formed above the barn and it moved downwards and after it faded the banr was as if itwas new. Fully fixed and back in working state.

"H-how is this possible?! Everything looks like when it was first made?!" Rosa-san exclaimed. "Everything, it looks brand new!!"

"But things like the things you wrote on the walls are still there." Ver-san teased her. "How did you do it?"

"Temporal Magic. Recall. It brings back the time which has been taken away leaving everything with sentimental worth behind." I answered and just then the foow of magical energy in the air changed. "Looks like it's here."

"It's the wyvern!!" Rosa-san pointed to the direction of the cows as the wyvern was about to dive down for it but it was immediately reflected back. "What?!"

"Protection magic. Sanctuary." I said and raised my hand to the sky. "I implore you, strike with your violent fangs, oh spear of light, Daybreak."

A spear of light pierces the wyvern's back and sends it plummeting to the ground dead in less than a second.

"So quickly?!" Ver-san exclaimed.

"I'll chop of it's head for good measure." I said and ran to the herd of cows.

The wyvern corps was lying on the ground, the cows staying clear of it. The spear has already disappears, with a slash it's head was gone. I took the head and used a special pouch to contain ut and went over to Ver-san and Rosa-san.

"I have to get back now. I hope this has helped you out a bit." I bowed my head.

"You have done more than help us out." Ver-san said.

"I won't lift the barrier on the pastures so they can graze and eat and you won't have to worry about mosnters or predators or thieves." I told them. "With the spell in place the grass will grow back in a day as well."

"T-thank you so much!!" Rosa-san said. "Um, Haruka, were are you staying?"

"Nowhere in particular. But, if you ever need my help. Just shout to the wind." I said before running back to the mansion of Elias-san.

I hope that'll help them even if it's just a bit. The wyvern did a number on their herd after all.

Elias-san was surprised I has managed to take it down easily. I showed him the corpse as well. He signed the quest and I stayed in an inn that night before heading back the next morning.

"No way!! You took it down so easily?!" Dahlia-san exclaimed when I showed her the quest.

"Yes. Ah, Dahlia-san, is the association willing to buy the corpse of the wyvern?" I asked her.

"Yes. Gladly." She smiled.

"It's in here." I said and handed her the corpse. "I'll be in town for a few days, so you can pay me any time you want."

"Okay then." She giggled.

I made sure no one was here yet when I came here. After all, showing the corpse of the wyvern is something else. In the back of the building, she opened the pouch and it showed her the wyvern corpse. She siad that it was worth five silver coins and I gladly took up her offer. Twelve gold coins plus five silver coins. I think that's good for my first quest. I need to earn lots of monet since I can exaclty just fly all the way back home. It'll exhaust even me. I'll need to go there by boat and it is really expensive according to Veronica. But at least I'm getting closer. So I hope Haruki can hang on just a little longer.
