Tongues of Fire

In addition to writing books, Sebastian Badarau also acts and directs for stage and film. Most recently he has worked with film director Graham Baker (Alien Nation) adapting the novel A State of Denmark for a 2021 release. His latest project is radio-drama ¨The Uncertainty Principle¨ which he wrote and directed himself and was broadcast by Radio Iasi, last year. It tells the story of three scientists who are on the verge of a major breakthrough in quantum mechanics but find themselves in conflict over what the discovery actually is. ¨TONGUES OF FIRE¨ is about this extraordinary take on the theme of alien body invasion that I hadn't seen before in books nor movies. It is also the one that resonates with me the most, on a more personal level. Not that I, personally, have been invaded by aliens but I find it empowering and also deeply humane. It is also quite simple and logical if you spend a bit of time meditating on the world, Space and our role in the Universe. I think there is good literature out there, but you got to know where to find it. We may also have very different definitions of what a good book really is. My definition is somewhere in the essence of writing, which is tone and style, and not necessarily story. It is the art of story-telling more than the art of owning a good narrative. 'Brothers Karamazov' by Dostoyevski is a pretty mundane book, in terms of narrative, but the style is spectacular. Same for Hemingway, Dickens, Camus or Boris Vian. If it were simply for the story, Boris Vian would not pass the test. I also love science, particularly physics and mathematics. And also love art about science. You may wonder what theatre or performance has in common with science. But I think the answer is quite obvious. Both physics and art are direct pathways to investigating phenomena, whether it's the natural world or human behavior. Science asks the biggest questions: ¨who are we?¨, ¨where do we come from?¨ ¨what's the final goal?¨ Anyone who has worked in arts, know that artists are preoccupied by the exact same questions. I believe anyone who will delve a little bit deeper into both worlds may come to a comforting answer sooner than those who like to keep the two separated at arm's length.¨ Rick Sarpaulis is a young mathematician who returns to the fictional town of Fayhill, after a very long absence, and takes up a job as a substitute teacher at the local school. Both his previous relationship and his job as an assistant researcher at the Department of Non-Euclidean Geometry at Courant have ended in failure. He's dreading the prospect of facing the locals, who've known him since he was a kid and whom he views as racists, non-inclusive and ready only to spread gossip about the return of the prodigal son. He attributes the failure to sustain any relationship and build a career on his chronic depression and inability to function properly in society. In Fayhill, he falls in love with Audrey, a young woman he describes as having a ¨downcast glow to her face, immobile; like that of a wild child being raised by wolves, while her eyes perpetually strip any potential partner for signs of passion and vulnerability.

Each prince possesses unique qualities that set him apart from the others. Prince Aenes, on the other hand, is a strategic thinker, always one step ahead in planning and executing his actions. Prince Avery is known for his charisma and diplomatic skills, able to win over hearts with his charm and eloquence. Prince Egon, the fourth prince, is a scholar at heart, delving deep into the kingdom's history and laws to glean wisdom and insight. Lastly, Prince Kaiser, the youngest of the five princes, is a compassionate soul, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His empathy and kindness are known far and wide, earning him the admiration of the kingdom's citizens. As the five princes embark on their journey to prove themselves worthy of the throne, they are faced with a series of challenges and trials that test their mettle and character. Prince Avery finds himself entangled in a web of courtly politics, where alliances are forged and broken with a mere whisper. His ability to navigate the treacherous waters of the royal court will determine his fate in the race for the throne. Meanwhile, Prince Aenes is tasked with devising a strategy to safeguard the kingdom from external threats and internal unrest. His keen intellect and foresight are put to the test as he formulates plans to ensure the kingdom's stability and prosperity. Prince Claudios, ever the warrior, must prove his worth on the battlefield, leading the kingdom's armies to victory against formidable foes. His courage and skill in combat will be scrutinized as he faces enemies both within and beyond the kingdom's borders. Prince Egon delves into the annals of history, seeking guidance from the wisdom of past rulers and scholars. His quest for knowledge leads him to uncover long-forgotten secrets that may hold the key to the kingdom's future. As for Prince E Kaizer, his compassion and empathy are put to the test as he confronts the plight of the kingdom's most vulnerable citizens. His acts of kindness and generosity resonate throughout the kingdom, earning him the trust and admiration of all who cross his path. As the competition among the princes intensifies, tensions rise, and loyalties are tested. Each prince must grapple with his ambitions, desires, and sense of duty to the kingdom and its people. Friendships are forged and broken, alliances are made and betrayed, and the fate of the kingdom hangs in the balance. In the end, only one prince will emerge victorious, chosen by destiny to become the 12th king of the kingdom of Barat. Who will rise to the occasion and claim the throne? Only time will tell as the epic saga of the five princes unfolds in the realm of Barat.

Little, Lady

"I can't find Lady anywhere" Storm says panicking. "What do you mean, she's in her room" "She isn't, I've looked everywhere and now I'm worried" Getting up from where I was leaning I swiftly make my way down the hall and up the stairs to my babies bedroom, I know for a fact that she must be hiding in here somewhere. Vigorously throwing her door open I notice that everything is still as neat as it was this afternoon and she is nowhere in sight. "Believe me now?" Storm asks while leaning against the door frame with his arms crossed. "I never said I didn't believe you, I just wanted to double check" "This is all your fault anyway, if you would have treated her better and not been the evil bastard you were, then we would all be having a nice movie night" "Don't put this shit on me" "Why not, it's your fault, she probably took it upon herself to do exactly what you said she should" "I can't even remember what I said, I was upset!" "Of course you don't, you told her that she was a worthless girl and that adopting her was the biggest mistake you've ever made and that you wish she would just leave and never come back" "I said that?" I ask completely shocked and disgusted with myself. Roman and Storm have been married for two years now and even though they have just about everything they could want, somehow they both feel something, or more specifically someone is missing. Lady has always been, shy, sweet and sensitive. Ever since she was left at Miss. Maggie's home for boys and girls when she was two she has always been someone 'special'.
