Preparations

Wonderful, I thought to myself.

"So; I think the best dragon to fight right now is the frost dragon of the Skimelia mountain."

I turned and pointed to a mountain to the north. I wouldn't say that the capital of Enjuhar was at the base of the mountain, or even relatively close to it, but it also wasn't extremely far away either. Looking at it from a distance you can't even see the top as the clouds block the view of it.

The capital is a big place, but overall I had a general idea of where most things were. I started walking towards the vendors in the city and indicated for Olivia to follow. As we were walking together, we started talking.

"If we're going to fight a dragon, we need to be prepared. We'll need plenty of potions, some cold-resistant items, maybe even a few revive tokens."

Olivia looked confused.

"Uhh... yeah, just one thing, what's a revive token?"

I guess it makes sense she doesn't know what it is; she probably hasn't received any yet.

"Well, it's a consumable that lets you respawn right around where you died, but there's a few downsides and drawbacks."

She looked intrigued, so I continued.

"When you respawn you only have 10% of your total health, you're blocked from using certain abilities for a certain time, they cant be used during PVP, and some other stuff like that."

"Huh... those sound pretty useful. It would have been nice if I had some of those the other day."

"I'm guessing you don't have any, right?"

She shook her head to answer my question.

"Here, take this."

I reached into my inventory and pulled out two tokens. It hurts knowing how expensive they are, but it should all be worth it in the end when I get those dragon parts. I'll just say to myself it's an investment.

"Cool, thanks."

She put them in her inventory, and we kept on walking to the vendors.

"And by the way, I want back whatever tokens you don't end up using."

"Yeah, sure."

We both went silent after that, and It was going to be a few minutes until we reached the vendors, so I decided to start another conversation.

"So what do you know about dragons?"

"hmm…"

"…"

"Not much. I'm guessing they're kind of like, you know, a dragon. A big lizard with wings that can breathe fire, you know, that kind of stuff."

"That sounds like a dragon alright. The only main difference is there's a dragon for each element; so, frost, fire, earth, and lightning, and also an undead one even though its not an element. Also, dragons can only use the power of their specific element, so don't expect a frost dragon to breathe fire but rather frost or ice."

"I see…"

I feel like I'm just exposition dumping all of this on her, so I think I'll just tell her what she needs to know when it eventually comes up in the future or if she asks beforehand, plus we've arrived at the vendors.

I walked up to a potion vendor and asked to look at their stock, but he didn't have much to show me, he was nearly all out of potions. I walked to another vendor but again was told there wasn't much left. I bought up their remaining stock and moved on.

I was worried about that. With the new event being announced, a lot of people probably went on a spending spree in preparation for it. I mean, the date of the event hasn't even been announced yet, so why do people have to immediately buy up all the goods; it's annoying.

I looked in my inventory and checked my potion stock, and after buying 5 from the vendors I currently have 18 left. If I play my cards right, I should be able to make do with these. I turned and looked at Olivia.

"Do you have any potions on you?"

"Hm, let me check…"

"..."

"I have two potions of healing, and one fire resist."

"Alright, here, take this…"

I handed her 8 potions of healing. The potion vials looked very generic, and the liquid inside was a dark purple. You don't actually have to drink it; if you crush the potion vial it has the same effect.

"Wai- wait, are you sure? Do you have enough?"

"Oh yeah, I have plenty. Those are just a few extra ones."

Let's hope she doesn't notice that if I had plenty to begin with I wouldn't have gone to purchase more and just not question me about it. Sure, the dragon parts are good and all, but not at the cost of ruining her experience of playing the game. I have to make sure above all else she enjoys the game, even if it makes it harder for me to play. After all, it's the job of the existing players to show the ropes to the new ones, or at least that's how I see it.

"Before we head out, you should make sure any cold-resistant items you have are ready to equip. They'll be useful later."

"Okay, but I don't have much."

Olivia just went ahead and equipped the cold-resistant items now so as to not forget later; after all they were only slightly worse than what she had on prior, so it so might at well. A large fur coat appeared on her and her shoes became mountain boots lined with fur.

I started swapping out my equipment too. I changed my armor to be more befitting of the cold environment, so I equipped a full set of plated fur armor and changed a few of my rings and accessories. I changed my fire-resistant ring to cold-resistant and put on a special necklace that should help if the dragon tries to fly around a bunch. I also took one more thing out of my inventory and gave it to Olivia. It was a shiny light blue liquid that sat inside a beautiful potion vial.

"Here, take this."

"What is it?"

"It's a potion to help resist the damage and effects of frost and cold. Make sure you use it right before we start the fight."

She gave me a nod and put it in her inventory as I looked towards the mountain again. Now we just have to make our way to the top of the mountain and defeat the dragon.

"So, are you ready?"

"Yeah, let's do this!"
