NOTICE: Currently in progress of rewriting things. The general plot will stay the same, but the writing will be better. Chapters 1-12 are already done. Arcadia Online; the first major VRMMORPG in the world. You can make friends, money, or even be the protagonist of your own adventure! Anything your heart desires, this game will let you do it! Josh is an ordinary 18-year-old guy that enjoys games; perhaps a bit too much. He plays Arcadia day in, and day out; for him, this is his job, his source of entertainment, everything! This game is practically his livelihood. Maybe one day he'll meet someone that can break him out of his shell and help to better himself as a person. New chapters either every day or every other day.

Event Talk

"Have you heard about the event?"

"Yeah, I can't wait. It's going to be awesome."

I was in the guild at the time, and it seemed like everyone here was talking about the upcoming event. It had been about two days since the dragon was killed, and the developers finally said what the event was and when it would take place.

In three days at 4:00 PM EST, a war will break out between Enjuhar and Wesphuy. The event will go on for a week with a major battle on the first day, and a few smaller battles later. You can only participate if you are aligned with one of the nations, and you won't be able to fight for the opposing team. That's pretty much all the newsletter said, but an all-out war between the two nations is insane! I wonder what'll happen to the losing side; will Enjuhar or Wesphuy be destroyed? Will the players be picked up by the winning nation? I have so many questions, but I guess I won't get answers until the event happens. I walked over to a group of three people standing around talking and decided to join in.

"Oh, hey Tonic, have you heard about the event?"

"Yeah, it sounds cool. Did the devs say anything about what'll happen to the losing team?"

"I don't think so"

"I dunno"

The third guy just shrugged his shoulders. I guess he couldn't be bothered to talk like the other two.

"I heard rumors that the losing nation will become a sub-nation to the winner"

"That sounds pretty bad, especially since some of the biggest guilds are sided with Wesphuy."

"Yeah, I mean, Enjuhar has more people, but Wesphuy has some of the best players on the server. We might be in some trouble."

In the corner of my eye, I saw Mike passing by. I haven't seen or talked to him in a few days, it'd be nice to catch up.

"Hey, I'll see you guys later."

"Yeah, see ya Tonic"

I jogged away from the group and caught up with Mike. He went into the room reserved for the guild master, and I followed.

"Hey Mike, what's up?"

He turned around, noticed me, and responded.

"Oh, hey Tonic"

"Dude, we've been over this, call me Josh."

"Oh yeah… yeah sorry. I've just been pretty tired recently."

"Well, ya know, from my experience, sleeping usually fixes the whole being tired thing"

"Oh ha ha very... *COUGH COUGH*"

"You good?"

"Ye- yeah, I'm fine. Anyway, real funny."

"I am a funny guy. But seriously, how've you been?"

"Ah, could be better, could be worse. Complaining won't fix anything, so I won't."

"How's your sister doing?"

"Olivia?"

I responded sarcastically…

"No, your other sister"

"…"

"You mean Janet?"

"Wait, you have another sister?"

"No, I was messing with you for being snarky."

"…"

"I guess I deserved that, but how's she doing? Last I heard she became an adventurer and can join guilds now."

"It's kinda weird you know more about my sister than you know about some of our guild mates. But in all seriousness, she keeps bugging me to join our guild."

"I'm sensing a but coming along."

"But she's trying to speed through the game, she's not taking her time to enjoy it. That's one of the main things about our guild, we're focused on fun, not speedrunning or being the best."

"I'm sure she just wants to catch up due to how far behind she is compared to some other players."

"Yeah, she keeps bringing that up when she asks to join, but you were there with her, right?"

I was surprised he knew. Before I could ask how he knew, he had told me.

"She brings you up from time to time. Anyway, you could have killed that dragon twice over by yourself. If she went up there with a normal team of four or five people around her level, they would have been butchered. She didn't win because of her own skill and teamwork, she won because of you. Why are you taking away the fun of natural progression through the game?"

"…"

"Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I was complaining or lecturing you. I just want to make sure everyone has fun."

I finally spoke up.

"So, what do you think we should do?"

"I- I think I'll take her in with us, but I don't want her to speed through things again. I'll think of something."

"Gotcha… On a separate note, have you heard about the new event?"

"Yeah, it sounds like fun. I'll try and be on for the big battle in a few days."

"So what side do you think will win?"

"That... is a tough one. Enjuhar has a majority of the players, but Wesphuy has most of the really talented people. I can't really say, but it'll surely come down to if numbers can overpower skill."

"Considering that there might be severe consequences to the losing team, I really hope we end up winning this event."

"Yeah, same."

After that, we just talked normally and asked how each other was doing, you know, checking in on one another. After some time passed we finished talking and I left to go do my daily quest, leaving Mike behind in his room. He seemed alright; I hope everything works out well for him. Anyway, I should probably start grinding and getting as many resources as possible before the event starts.
