The Door to Space

"28... 29... Here goes!!"

With a low growl of release, Seth thrust his spear harshly at a white plastic component next to the SUV's engine.

"Bang!!"

A soft sound and a puff of white smoke emerged from the location of the white component.

The sharp and noisy horn abruptly stopped!

In the final moments, Seth thought of destroying the battery as a way to cut off the power supply to the horn, thereby silencing it.

His gamble paid off!

Without a moment to lose, Seth pushed off the SUV with force. Using the recoil, he swiftly pulled out his spear and rushed towards the villa's security door.

It was a matter of milliseconds before a swarm of zombies crazily lunged at the spot where Seth had just been!

"Ugh ugh~~~ Ugh ugh ugh~~~"

"Heh heh heh~~~ Heh heh heh~~~"

"Roar~~~ Roar~~~"

The roar of the zombies was incredibly clear behind Seth, as if they were breathing right in his ear!

The putrid smell of rotting flesh hit him in the face!

He knew the zombies were dangerously close!

Just one second later, and he would have become a feast for the zombies!

"Open the door!!" Seth, while running, yelled anxiously at the villa's security door.

At this distance, as soon as the security door opened, he could quickly dive in, and the zombies following closely behind wouldn't stand a chance to get inside.

However, the security door remained immovable!

Not showing the slightest sign of opening!

Seth's figure paused slightly.

He thought of the most cruel possibility!

"Damn it! Open the door!!" Seth yelled again at the two people inside the villa, still clinging to the last shred of hope in humanity.

Now at the door, the security door still didn't budge!

No surprise, no luck!

"Why?!" Seth's eyes reddened with anger, his body trembling uncontrollably with rage.

He despised the couple, but he hated himself even more.

This was the apocalypse!

No morals!

No laws!

No rules!

Not even right or wrong!

Everything was just about survival.

Living longer.

Compassion for others was cruelty to oneself.

Rather than questioning Philip-Harris and his wife, he was questioning his own heart!

Why, knowing what human nature could be like in the apocalypse, did he still choose to save others because of that pathetic goodness in his heart?!

Why?

Why!!

This wasn't kindness! It was cowardice!!

Only the cowardly, who dare not face the harshness of the apocalypse, would attribute their foolishness to kindness.

True bravery was about overcoming moral constraints in your heart to survive better.

Forget those pitiful kindnesses and laughable compassions!

In the apocalypse, no one truly harbors goodwill towards you!

Seth furiously wielded his spear, smashing the heads of the first two zombies that lunged at him.

His anger made him fearless!

"I'm sorry! Sir! Your presence here will disrupt our lives! You should find another place to seek refuge!" Nicole-Todd's apologetic voice came from inside the house.

Although she was saying sorry, there wasn't a trace of guilt in her tone.

"I hope you don't become food for the zombies! May God bless you! Sir, I am sorry, but I cannot share our food and peaceful life with you!" Philip-Harris's mocking laughter followed.

This was supposed to be my refuge!

This food was meant to be mine!

It was their arrival that disrupted my life!

And now, these two shamelessly say that I am the one who is superfluous here?!!

Is this what human nature is?

Seth's blood-red eyes gradually turned cold, the fury in them shifting to a cold and profound depth.

"Thank you for letting me adapt to the apocalypse so quickly! For making me understand the nature of humanity in the apocalypse so swiftly!" Seth's tone was as cold as millennia-old ice.

Facing the dense horde of zombies converging in front of him, Seth felt no fear in his heart!

Instead, he was filled with a fighting spirit!

Utilizing the narrow staircase outside the villa, Seth's spear struck like a venomous snake, relentlessly attacking.

With each strike, he accurately and unfailingly killed a zombie!

Snow-white orbs of energy continuously merged into Seth's body.

Finally, the progress bar projected in front of Seth reached 100%.

[Ding Dong! System recharge complete! Congratulations to the host for opening the Door to Space!]

[Would you like to open the Door to Space now?]

The delicate and sweet female voice rang again in Seth's mind. Without a moment's hesitation, Seth immediately chose [Yes!]

A flash of light streaked around Seth, and everything in the world came to a standstill. Then, Seth's figure, along with the white light, vanished.

The dense crowd of zombies, one after another, crazily lunged at the spot where Seth had just been.

"Is he dead?" Nicole-Todd cowered, the zombie roars outside the door unsettling her.

"He must be dead..." Philip-Harris trembled as he peeked through a corner of the curtain. Seeing the pile of zombies outside the door stacked like a mountain, he let out a long sigh of relief:

"This time, even if he were Superman, he probably couldn't have survived..."

Philip-Harris swallowed hard and carelessly tossed the car remote key aside.
