A vision

Ever since my parents learned about my interest in magic, they have spent plenty of time trying to teach me as much as possible, but nothing worked for me. No magic could be cast through me, no matter how weak it might be.

It was depressing for me; all the kids in town could humiliate me with their natural talent in magic, and I felt genuinely jealous; why were they better than me? Wasn't I the reincarnation!? Wasn't I the protagonist?

So why then? Why was I the untalented?! I struggled with the fact that I might have been born without magical powers, but something within me did not give up; even if nothing happened when I cast words, I kept trying daily!

Mom and Dad were genuinely worried about me, and I could not blame them; my fifth birthday was approaching, and I could still not use magic, which was worrisome for my parents.

Their support helped whenever I didn't feel like trying that day, but even with their support, it was getting harder and harder; reality was hitting me in the face. It was screaming! "You're not him!"

Naturally, my newfound willpower, supported by my parents, gave me enough courage to slap reality right back! I was him! I was sure that was my destiny! The goddess had said she would bless me! Surely, she hadn't been lying!

Was she? Wait, maybe she wasn't lying, but if she said she would bless me after the fact, could she? No, there was no way. Had that useless garbage of a goddess forgotten about my blessing?! Oh, man!

Was there nothing I could do to use magic? I was missing out! Everyone could use at least very weak magic; all of my friends were able to cast simple spells, which they loved to use against me as a form of bullying.

Their taunts fueled me with even more willpower, but even with the confidence of a thousand men, my magic was just non-existent! I couldn't even summon a drop of water, not even a single one.

I kept on trying for an entire year until my birthday arrived. Time had flown by, and I hadn't even noticed. My parents got me something special for my birthday that they thought would help me with my problems.

"Go on, open your gift, Anabel."

I opened the box they had handed me at my parents' request and saw a mysterious bracelet inside it; then Dad explained what it was. He called it a "Vision."

It was an expensive artifact that many would have killed for, but Mom and Dad had spent all their savings to buy it just for me! Of course, I got excited and immediately tried to put it on, but when I did.

{Loud Zap}

The bracelet zapped me with a strong black electric shock. Mom immediately took the bracelet away from me and tried it on herself to check if it was defective, but the bracelet did not zap her; it always zapped me, though.

My father looked very concerned now. He scratched his head as he checked for defects on the artifact but was unsuccessful in finding any.

He tried it on himself and then on me, but he always got zapped with black energy, just like me, whenever he tried to put the artifact on me forcefully.

"This thing must be broken or something; how about you come with me to the Jeweler tomorrow? Let's ask the Jeweler what's wrong with it, okay?"

Dad was always trying to be positive, but I was a little less enthusiastic after seeing how violently the Vision was reacting to me; it was telling me to stop trying and saying that I wasn't meant to use magic.

Even so, the next day, we went to the Jeweler to confirm that there was nothing with the Vision, but since he understood that I couldn't use it, he was nice enough to refund my dad for the item.

After that day, my parents switched their strategy; my father has been teaching me other helpful stuff, like how to tend the crops and care for the farm, while my mom has been teaching me her knitting skills.

It seemed like they had given up trying to teach me magic, but I hadn't given up yet; I was determined to use it! I couldn't give up so soon! Could I? No! I was not going to give up! Not with how common it was! I couldn't!
